Lustrum Press, New York 1971 - np, profusely illustrated in b&w. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Long before "Kids", "Another Day in Paradise" and "Bully", Larry Clark's groundbreaking first book was the real thing. A gritty, voyeuristic photo essay of the author's life amongst youthful petty criminals and drug addicts in Oklahoma, "Tulsa" forever changed the landscape of acceptability for the photographic book in the latter half of the 20th Century. An internally bright copy of the 1971 Lustrum Press true first edition (cited on page 260 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume I", pages 272-73 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", page 25 of "From Fair to Fine: 20th Century Photography Books That Matter", and pages 208-09 of "The Book of 101 Books") whose wrappers show some noticeable wear and soft creases. It has been priced accordingly. This specially constructed binding features various colored, soft-surfaced leathers; as olive green for the military cap & collar, black for the visor of the cap, tan/flesh-tone for the face of the figure (De Gaulle), white & black onlays for the "target" form on the front & back covers; interior of this clamshell box is lined with a soft gray, textured paper, the flyleaves of the book have also been replaced with 3 sheets of this type of paper in other shades of color; small, circular colored velcro closures in the interior of the box, keep it lightly closed. Preserved in a sturdy, 9 1/4" x 10 3/8" x 2 1/4" (thick), drop-back clamshell box/case contructed by Sobota, this is covered in a textured tan cloth with a red leather title label, with gilt title, mounted at the top of the spine, red cloth edges; interior of the box is lined with white felt. Binding and case are in fine condition. Scan shows the the front of the sculpture (front cover of binding). Created by Jan Sobota, sometime in the late 1980's, or early '90's. To quote an earlier catalogue description: “First edition of the popular suspense novel in an extraordinary sculptural binding by one of the most interesting and inventive art binders of our day. Sobota has bound the book block into a clamshell box in the shape of President De Gaulle’s head in right profile. A target is onlaid in the center.         Screenplay]: The Godfather: Screenplay by Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola

Paramount Pictures, New York 1971 - Original screenplay. Third draft. Dated March 29, 1971 (the date principal photography began). 143pp. Unbound mimeographed sheets printed rectos only, with related material. A script used by the studio to prepare the television version, this is accompanied by 1) a four page mimeographed memo marked: "Master Copy -- Showing Actual Changes Made", apparently intended to make the film televisable, for instance: "21' - Caan balls wedding guest against bedroom door - pick up scene as Duvall knocks on door, Caan and girl are then in freeze position - continue scene (with girl's off camera 'Oh Sonny!' but WITHOUT the orgasmic moans and sighs) after Caan says he will join Duvall in a minute. (Recommended cuts will be made) (Also after cuts made 'Oh Sonny' didn't make sense and Coppola agreed to cut)." Also: "31' - greatest piece of ass I've ever had. (Cut 'ass' only) (Changed to 'greatest piece of stuff')." Also with 2) Single photocopied sheet printed recto only of Coppola's introduction to the film indicating, in part: "I was pleased to have the opportunity to personally supervise the revisions, working with NBC so that this film could be viewed on television." Slight age-toning and light wear at the extremities, paperclips on the pages where changes have been made with pencil notes, else a near fine copy. The bestselling novel was made into one of the most acclaimed blockbuster films, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and featuring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, and many others. *The Godfather* was first nationally broadcast on NBC in November, 1974, a month before the theatrical debut of the equally acclaimed *The Godfather: Part II*. In 1977 a more elaborate, chronological portrayal of the Corleone epic (combining this film, its sequel, and numerous cut scenes) was edited and televised as *The Godfather Saga* (reportedly in order to raise funds for Coppola's *Apocalypse Now*).

        Children the Year Round (Doreki)

Tokyo: Chuo-Koronsha, 1971. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. This is a first edition, first printing of Children the Year Round (Doreki) by Shoji Ueda published by Chuo-Koronsha, Tokyo, in 1971 as part of the Eizo no Gendai (The Present of Images) Series this being title number 3. Ueda is considered by many to be the leading figure of the Subjective Movement in post-war Japanese photography that emphasized an alternative to realism that dominated pre-war Japanese photography. In her Japanese photography reference work, The History of Japanese Photography, Anne Wilkes Tucker wrote, The subjective, dreamlike quality of Ueda\'s work, as well as its subtle humor, went against the grain of the dominant trend toward documentary photography in Japan following the war. In 1971, a solo exhibition at the Pentax Gallery, Tokyo, Children the Year Round featured his work in Tottori Prefecture; Ueda depicted the children of the area in the natural environment, in each season of the year. Containing 96 black-and-white photographs and measuring approximately 10.5 inches x 8.5 inches, the book is bound in white laminated paper covered boards with a printed dust jacket sans obi. The dust jacket is protected with a mylar covering. The condition of the book is FINE. The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with sunning to the front cover and spine with minor wear to the tips and spine edges.

        Zock. aspekte einer totalrevolution. 66/71.

Franz Knödel,, München, 1971 - München, Franz Knödel, 1971. 8°. 46 S. Illustr. OHeft. Eines von 1000 Exemplaren. Zeichnungen: Otto & Alfi. Fotos: Lisl & Klaus. - Ebd. etw. fleckig, kl. (Zitat) Deutsch [Attributes: Soft Cover]
