In ?No Name in the Street,? his fourth non-fiction book, Baldwin discusses his own experiences including the assassinations of three of his personal friends: Medgar Evers, Malcolm X. and Martin Luther King, Jr. He also writes about the 1963 March on Washington, Huey Newton, Bobby Seale, and Eldridge Cleaver. In 1968, James Baldwin was hired by producer Marvin Worth to write a screenplay based on ?The Autobiography of Malcolm X,? written by Malcolm X and Alex Haley. Baldwin was joined by screenwriter Arnold Perl writing ?One Day When I Was Lost: A Scenario Based on Alex Haley's ?The Autobiography of Malcolm X.?? Perl died on December 11, 1971, just 19 days before Baldwin wrote the letter here offered. Perl also wrote, directed, and produced the documentary ?Malcolm X? and was posthumously nominated for the 1972 Academy Award (with Worth) for Best Documentary.Accompanied by an unsigned 9.75"" x 6.75"" black & white photo showing Baldwin, in a checkered shirt and sunglasses, standing on a platform. Er war Gründungsmitglied der Künstlervereinigung "Der Kreis" und starb kurz nachdem er bei Hausdurchsuchung und Verhör durch die Gestapo zwei Herzinfarkte erlitten hatte.

SIGNED and inscribed by William Peter Blatty directly to the title page. Inscription reads: With every kind wish, ____, William Peter Blatty. Book is clean and tight. Slightest lean. Panel edges show shelf rub. Tiny loss of cloth at corner tip. Burgundy colored boards quarter bound with burgundy cloth binding. Gilt titles on backstrip. Gold endpapers are clean and bright. The original 1st issue DJ is in lesser condition than the crisp book. The 1st issue DJ meets all points with the photo on the rear that shows Mr. Blatty from the thighs up. Later DJs show a close-up of Mr. Blatty's face. Additional matching points of the 1st issue DJ include a $6.95 price intact on the DJ flap and 0571 printed on the bottom or front flap. DJ shows a couple of flaws. A small stain on DJ rear that likely could be cleaned off. A couple of small chips along the edge at the crown of the backstrip and flap fold corners. A crisper DJ would make a world of difference but this is still VG, just with a couple of small edge chips. A rare signed first printing of the enduring classic, signed by the generous and kind, William Peter Blatty. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Perfetto (Mint). 4to (cm 32x25). 9 acqueforti acquetinte a colori di Dino Buzzati, firmate dall'Artista (cm 12x10; 31x24; 9x46) La vivezza stilistica dell'interpretazione grafica di Buzzati riecheggia la scioltezza e le originali prospettive dei suoi romanzi e racconti brevi. Le nove acqueforti colorate presentano un gioco affascinante di lunghe linee e corte prospettive. Il testo di Osvaldo Patani è una satira nella quale il fascino sessuale delle gambe femminili è esacerbato fino al culmine della follia della superminigonna degli anni sessanta. Le incisioni di Buzzati sono lievi e ariose, e rappresentano le donne, e naturalmente soprattutto le gambe, sovrapposte in una prospettiva esagerata allo sfondo di vedute diverse del Quartiere Latino a Parigi. Ne risulta una satira affettuosa e semiseria dei 'gambaioli', i martiri della gamba per i quali senza gambe non esiste l'amore" (Sandra Kirshenbaum, in Fine Print, ottobre 1985). "Nel mese di novembre Buzzati iniziò le acqueforti per le divagazioni poetiche sulle più belle gambe di Francia nell'atelier di Giorgio Upiglio che per l'occasione fu anche l'editore. Il volume fu subito esaurito e tutte le acqueforti furono firmate a matita da Buzzati. Al termine del lavoro mi regalò le lastre che non volle biffare. Le ripubblicheremo un giorno, mi disse. Le gambe di Saint Germain fu l'ultimo libro non scritto e il suo primo illustrato per un altro autore. Fu dunque l'estremo atto artistico poco prima del ricovero nella clinica della Madonnina. Quando Buzzati arrivava da Upiglio dopo la ripidissima scala da 'via ferrata dolomitica' un poco affaticato prima di sedersi intorno al rustico tavolone, (. . .) sempre così stilé si toglieva la giacca scura di cachemire per affiatarsi subito con gli altri (. . .) Per l'illustrazione con le gambe in primo piano e il sottofondo della piantina del quartiere latino, Buzzati si fece spedire dal corrispondente del Corriere della Sera da Parigi la mappa della città per essere il più preciso possibile. Ma è un fatto che Buzzati oltre che esigentissimo cronista e scrittore è stato un esigentissimo pittore e non meno nelle sue illustrazioni che chiudono il suo ciclo letterario illustrativo. L'ultima volta che lo vidi citò una frase di Paul Valéry: - Non conosco arte che possa impegnare più intelligenza del disegno -" (Osvaldo Patani, Atelier Upiglio, Torino, Allemandi, 1986). Unique in that White has signed the Bible on the second free endpaper, humorous in that he has filled out the pre-printed gift presentation page to himself on May 28, 1975, on the occasion of "his buying a new Bible," and poignant that the only indication of any use is his recording of the death of his wife on the pre-printed page for family information: "Katharine Sergeant White July 20, 1977." & & According to Martha White, granddaughter of the Whites, neither were religious but as Katharine's health was declining in 1975 she may have asked E.B. to buy a Bible in which to record her death--which he did two years later. Katharine S. White (1892-1977) was the longtime fiction editor at The New Yorker where she met E.B. White in the late 1920s; they were married in 1929. This ORIGINAL dustjacket has slight wear to the spine and edges. The book is in great shape. The binding is tight with NO cocking or leaning and the boards are crisp with minor wear to the edges.       Thomas Y. Crowell, New York 1971 - First edition. Thin quarto, original illustrated boards. With the original die cuts present. Near fine in a near fine price-clipped dust jacket. Signed by Eric Carle on the title page. A very sharp copy. Eric Carle has received many distinguished awards and honours for his work, including the 2003 Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for his lifetime contribution to children's literature and illustration. He also founded the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, a 44,000 sq ft museum devoted to the art of children's books in located in Amherst.       Philadelphia: David McKay. (1971). Archive of original and related material created for the 1971 children's book about a young black girl from Jamaica attempting to save her pet hen Coco from becoming coq au vin. Her efforts lead her unexpectedly to a meeting with the President of Jamaica. All material fine with the exception of a supplied copy of the published book, good with moderate dampstains to the boards in very good original dustwrapper. Ursula Koering was a New Jersey artist who graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art and illustrated over 200 children's books including Trucks At Work (1946) by Mary Elting; Slappy Hooper: the Wonderful Sign Painter (1946) by Arna Bontemps and Jack Conroy; The First Book of Negroes (1952) by Langston Hughes; and The Long Year (1969), Ester Wier's follow-up to her Newbery Medal-winning book, The Loner (1963). A very nice archive illustrating the publication of a children's book from manuscript, to preliminary mock-up, to finished art work. Further details upon request. .
