[MILLER, Henry]; WEGERT, Carl-Heinz
[MILLER, Henry]; WEGERT, Carl-Heinz: Hommage à Henry Miller. Sieben Kaltnadelradierungen. S. 3; Gottfried Knapp, Open Art 20, 2008, S. 43f.

O'BRIAN, Patrick (1914-2000)
Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott, 1969. First Printing. Hardcover. Fine-/Fine. True First Edition, preceding the British edition by one year, of the first installment in the Aubrey-Maturin series. Tall, thick 8vo: 384pp, with double-page map of the western Mediterranean, c. 1800. Publisher's deep-blue cloth, spine stamped in gilt, fore-edge rough trimmed; pictorial dust jacket priced $6.95, with publisher's code 1169 on front flap. About Fine (spine head rubbed, slight dulling of gilt); Fine first-issue jacket, vibrant and bright. The Aubrey-Maturin series is a sequence of nautical historical novels-20 completed and one unfinished-set during the Napoleonic Wars and centering on the friendship between Captain Jack Aubrey of the Royal Navy and his ship's surgeon, Stephen Maturin, polymath and spy. In this installment, the naval action in the Mediterranean is closely based on the real-life exploits of Lord Cochrane, including a battle modeled after Cochrane's spectacular victory in the brig HMS Speedy over the vastly superior Spanish frigate El Gamo. The novel provided some episodes for the 2003 Peter Weir film, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Note: With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.

Greene, Graham
London: The Bodley Head, 1969. First British edition of Greene's classic novel about smuggling currency out of Great Britain. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by Graham Greene on the title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with light wear. Jacket design by Stephen Russ. Uncommon signed. Described by Graham Greene as "the only book I have written just for the fun of it," Travels with My Aunt is the story of Hanry Pulling, a retired and complacent bank manager who meets his septuagenarian Aunt Augusta for the first time at what he supposes to be his mother's funeral. She soon persuades Henry to abandon his dull suburban existence to travel her way--winding through Brighton, Paris, Istanbul, and Paraguay. Through Aunt Augusta, one of Greene's greatest comic creations, Henry joins a shiftless, twilight society; mixes with hippies, war criminals, and CIA men; smokes pot; and breaks all currency regulations. It was the basis for the film directed by George Cukor, starring Maggie Smith and Alec McCowen. The screenplay by Jay Presson Allen and Hugh Wheeler. It was adapted as a musical in 2016 starring Patricia Hodge.
