Gunda, Antal
1969. Size: Tram poster (cca. 17 x 24 cm). Cinema played an important role in spending free time in the 1960s in Hungary More and more movies were presented in the country from the second part of the 1950s coming from the Western and Easter part of the world alike These Western movies let the audience of the Eastern regions take a view a bit outside the Iron Curtain and get to know every day characters of stories created within different cultural circumstances This tendency was even more intensive in the 1960s but the art movies of prominent directors could appear then in the same proportion as the entertaining movies appearing predominently previously Beside the Wester European movies Hungarian movies also dealth with moral issues and current problems from several aspects then Movie posters also played a significant role in Hungarian poster art during this period as brilliant pieces were created by outstanding graphic artists such as the poster of the movie lsquo La Dolce Vita rsquo by Frederico Fellini designed by Andr aacute s M aacute t eacute in 1962 the poster of lsquo Knife in the Water rsquo by Roman Polansky created by Lajos G ouml r ouml g in 1962 the poster of lsquo A Question of Honour rsquo by Aacute rp aacute d Darvas 1967 or the 1967 poster of lsquo Harlekin and her Lover rsquo by J oacute zsef Finta just to mention some characteristic examples The amazing movie posters of the period reflected the international tendencies as artists didn rsquo t only have superior technical skills but they also had the possibility to know wider theoretical background of them … [Click Below for Full Description]

ANGELOU, MAYA
New York: Random House, 1969. First Edition. A near-fine copy bound in black cloth with bright gilt lettering on the spine and front panel, with light bumping at the spine ends and no topstain, in a near-fine dustwrapper with minute wear at the spine ends and several minor scratches on the rear panel portrait of Angelous, else fine. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is an autobiography describing the early years of American writer and poet Angelou. The first in a seven-volume series, it is a coming-of-age story that illustrates how strength of character and a love of literature help overcome racism and trauma. The book begins when three-year-old Maya and her older brother are sent to Stamps, Arkansas, to live with their grandmother and ends when Maya becomes a mother at the age of 16. Despite grueling circumstances afflicting the author, including rape at the age of eight, Angelou managed to transform herself into a self-possessed, dignified woman. Ultimately, she became a noted dancer, actor, singer, and writer. The book was strongly lauded when it came out and nominated for the National Book Award. There was blowback by some librarians and educators due to the raw nature of a rape scene. The book has never been out of print. Angelou has inscribed this copy on the title page: "Dory, Joy. Maya Angelou 9/22/2004." [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Serizawa, K. [Keisuke]
Tokyo, 1969. 39 by 29.5 cm folder, with 12 brightly colored monthly plates, 37 by 29 cm. Serizawa (1895-1984) was a much celebrated and decorated fabric and textile designer. In 1956 he was proclaimed by the Emperor "Holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property", a title known outside Japan as a "Human National Treasure" of Japan. And in 1976 he was appointed Member of the Order of Cultural Merit. He began issuing calendars, each different from the prior ones, in 1946, and continued to do them until his death. The artwork and appearance of the calendars is highly distinctive, with their dazzling colors, their brash, broad-brush typography, their bold, whimsical, folk art-inspired and often playful imagery arranged idiosyncratically. Serizawa was applying his artistic sensibility and technique from textile work onto paper, and the result is unlike virtually anything else one is likely to have ever viewed. Serizawa's technique, known as "Kataezome", was a traditional one that had fallen into disuse. Basically it involved stencils combined with dye-resistent paste. Serizawa also relied on vegetable colors. In reviving Kataezome, Serizawa involved himself in every step of the process. The results bear some kinship to colorful Japanese toy catalogues, but these calendars have an explosion of color and collage-like composition that easily sets them apart from these catalogues all the same. The artwork here proclaims a freedom in so many ways, and yet they are clearly painstaking in their technique and are all of a piece and relate well to one another. Light and smallish da … [Click Below for Full Description]

New York: Privately Printed, 1969. Single sheet, double-sided printed poster. Measures 17 x 22" long. According to information from the Silverman archive, "Flux Fest Kit 2 was the second collection of Fluxus scores and festival information. The first was Fluxfest Sale. Condition: Very Good. Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (1922-2007). Slaughterhouse-Five Or The Children's Crusade. Signed by Kurt Vonnegut on the half-title page. New York: Delacorte, 1969. First edition / First printing. Blue cloth. 186 pages. Fine in fine dust jacket. A remarkably fresh and attractive copy, with just a hint of toning to the spine of this fragile dust jacket. The author's breakthrough masterpiece. After twenty years of struggling for critical and popular success, this book gave him the audience and recognition he had sought. The Woodstock Census. Condition: Very Good +. The uncommon original mid to late 70s census (or questionnaire) issued by the Woodstock Census of New York in the decade after the August 1969 concert to "scientifically" measure current attitudes and likes and dislikes from the 60's Generation. The "official" census, made up of 22 stapled, mimeographed pages, asks the participant to rank his or her take on hundreds of different issues, such as "Armpit hair on women", "Black light posters", "Natural body odor", "Capitalism", "Underground newspapers", etc. The census, as campy as it seems today, represented an ernest effort to gauge how attitudes inevitably shifted in the intervening 5-10 years. Folio, crisp and clean, with very light creasing along the top-edges. Although unverified, there is some thinking that New York School poet and provocateur Ted Berrigan played a role in the composition of the census. From the title page: "THIS IS THE WOODSTOCK CENSUS. With your help, throught this questionnaire, we hope to find out what "The Sixties" meant to those who were part of it, and how the 60's Generation views itself today. Although these questionnaires will be kept anonymous, we are very interested in your opinions, so please consider your answers carefully. Your own personal feelings about the things described are what we're looking for. If some parts of what you read seem playful, that's because this questionnaire, although scientifically constructed, was as much fun for us to write as it will be for you to fill out".
