First and signed limited Salvador Dalí edition, number CXXVIII of 200 copies, signed by Dali at the foot of the frontispiece etching and on the title page. "The artist Salvador Dalí, famous for his surreal images of melting clocks and barren landscapes, at first glance might not seem to have much in common with a retiring Victorian English don who wrote children's books. But actually, Dalí and Carroll had much in common: both men were ardent explorers of dreams and the imagination, attempting in their art to show the fertile pathways to the unconscious. This artistic temperament might explain why, in his sixties, Dalí created twelve surreal illustrations - one for each chapter - for Alice in Wonderland. Because he required a rich, lush palette for his painted drawings, Dalí turned to the oldest process for reproducing photographic images for printing: hel … [Click Below for Full Description]

New York: Poetry On Films, Inc, 1969. First Edition. Paperback. Frustrated over his inability to gain entrance to the New York Film Festival, Warhol started inter/View, which began its life as a film magazine under the direction of Gerard Malanga. John Wilcock, who published the avant-garde paper Other Scenes, agreed to provide typesetting, layout, and editorial advice for the first few issues, resulting in the aesthetic being more of an underground newspaper than a magazine. The paper promoted Warhol's own productions, and proved quickly to be an effective tool to attract the attention of players in the film world that Warhol and Paul Morrisey wanted to meet (see: Mulroney, Lucy. Andy Warhol, Publisher (2018), pp.93-100). Contents include interviews with Michael Sarne, George Cukor, Mark Frechette, Taylor Mead, Agnes Varda, Susan Sontag, Roman Polanski, and others, with coverage of Mick Jagger in performance. An attractive pair of issues. Two tabloid issues (42cm); photo-illustrated newsprint wrappers; [28]pp per issue; illus. Mild toning to wrapper extremities on No.1, else very Near Fine and unfolded; No.2 shows light toning and wear to extremities, with a few closed tears along the edges of the front wrapper; an unfolded, Very Good+ example.

UK: 1969. Condition: Like New. A vivid portrait of the English singer-songwriter and musician Nick Drake Nicholas Rodney "Nick" Drake was an English singer-songwriter and musician, known for his acoustic guitar-based songs. Drake released only three complete albums -- Five Leaves Left (1969), Bryter Layter (1970), Pink Moon (1972) -- and was not well known before his death in 1974. Yet he gained a massive posthumous following, inspiring leading musicians such as R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Robert Smith of The Cure and bands such as Coldplay and The Black Crowes. Forty years after Nick's death, Remembered for a While peels back some of the mystery surrounding his life. The book features gorgeous colour photographs, as well as original letters and interviews with family and friends. As Nick's sister writes in the introduction, Remembered for a While will reveal "the poet, the musician, the friend, the son, the brother, who was also more than all of these together, and as indefinable as the morning mist." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbxG3p_pDpY At long last, Remembered for a While paints a portrait of a visionary musician who inspired a fanatical following and whose legacy continues to inspire future generations of musicians -- and the lives of his fans.

[NEW LEFT / COUNTERCULTURE]
[Berkeley: v.i., 1969]. Ephemera. A substantial archive of contemporary printed materials relating to one of the most celebrated episodes in the underground youth movement of the Sixties, when thousands of students and community members joined to convert a piece of derelict property on the UC Berkeley campus into a park for all to enjoy. When the university issued an eviction notice, things turned ugly; one bystander was killed, another blinded and many others injured in the ensuing demonstrations, which lasted more than a week, culminating with then-Governor Ronald Reagan declaring a state of emergency and calling in National Guard troops to quell the riot. Among the more notorious aspects of the demonstration was the decision, made by Berkeley police under orders from the Governor's office, to use live shotgun rounds in combatting the protesters - a decision which essentially guaranteed an escalation of the confrontation and resulted in a marked increase in casualties. The materials here collected provide a vivid picture of both the colorful origins and the tragic aftermath of People's Park. Nearly all - including even the professionally-printed items - are rare, with fewer than a dozen of the 67 items found catalogued by author or title in OCLC. Many bear no authorial credit or publisher's imprint, and are clearly amateur pieces produced and distributed in the heat of the moment. Among the highlights are five issues (including the very elusive Issue no. 1) of Instant News Service, the daily emergency newspaper issued by the People's Press Syndicate during the duration … [Click Below for Full Description]

Wessen, Ernest J.
Mansfield, Oh, 1969. 102 issues, various paginations. Quarto. Original printed wrappers, stapled. Scattered contemporary manuscript annotations. Light tanning and occasional soiling. Overall very good. The complete 102-issue run of this highly useful bookseller's catalogue and reference, published over the course of thirty years by the renowned proprietor of the Midland Rare Book Company, Ernest J. Wessen. From Bruce McKinney's description on Rare Book Hub: "These catalogues span the period 1937 to 1969, detail almost 30,000 lots and reveal as much about the dealer as they do about the books. They are extensive in their detailing of material mostly concerning America east of the Mississippi River. They are often minutely detailed and not infrequently the only source for thorough and authoritative investigation of obscure titles. They read very well and have lost little of their impact to time. One can only wonder where all these books are today." Complete sets are exceedingly rare to find intact, and completing a set issue-by-issue takes years.

Egon Schiele
Harry N. Abrams, 1969. Cloth. One of the most lavish of all monographs devoted to the work of Egon Schiele (1890-1918), this 1969 Abrams study of the watercolours and drawings spares no expense in its production. At just over 20' tall, this massive folio generously profiles Schiele's remarkable work and each of the 64 plates boasts a rich color worthy of the scale and ambition of the project. This copy has been housed in the original Abrams cardboard shipping carton and, probably because of this, is in pristine condition. Tight and Fine in its oatmeal cloth, with immaculate gilt-titling along the spine. And in a flawless example of the publisher's acetate dustjacket. This copy is A76 (so designated at the copyrght page), meaning it's #76 of only 300 copies issued for the United States. (Another 100 copies only were issued at the same time for Great Britain). Sue Grafton
Peter Owen, 1969. Very good condition in acceptable dust jacket. Signed by author. The Lolly-Madonna War by Sue Grafton. Published by Peter Owen in 1969. This is a first edition hardcover book with dust jacket and measures about 7 1/2" x 5" with 189 pages. First British Commonwealth Edition is stated on the copyright page and the original price of 35s is on the dust jacket flap, which for this publisher means it is a first edition. This is the second book written by Sue Grafton and was made into a movie. It's also by far the rarest of any of her books. The book is in VERY GOOD condition. The orange cover has very little wear, the binding is tight, and the pages are in excellent shape except the first blank page has the top right torn off, probably where there was a prior owner's name. The dust jacket is in ACCEPTABLE condition with wear and a torn piece on the top front and another in the middle on the back. The title page has been signed with a Sharpie by the author. We acquired this book from the person that had it signed. Thanks for looking! We ship all orders within 1 business day of payment. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; In Dust Jacket]
