Yippies]: [Chicago Eight]. "William Yippie"
np [Chicago?]: [ca. 1969-70]. Carbon typescript. Loose A4 sheets, [7]pp. on onionskin paper, corner-stapled, with overtyping and corrections, SIGNED in blue ink on foot of last page. Mild wear, creasing. Very good or better overall. A fierce (likely unpublished) diatribe against Judge Julius Hoffman, or as the "... Panthers called him 'Adolph Hitler Hoffman,'" who presided over the "Chicago 8" trial of Yippies Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines, Lee Weiner, and Bobby Seale - who were charged with various federal offenses in the wake of the 1968 Democratic Convention. The judge is described by "William Yippie" as being a "cartoon of a man [a] 'magoo [...] who talked as if his larynx was made of sandpaper." It quotes extensively from the court transcript, including many requests by Rubin to go to the bathroom (with the title derived from a water saving campaign slogan used in the New York area during the drought of 1965). From the start, the article (if article it is) outlines a dire political scenario: "By now most everyone has an idea of the repression that's going on in Amerika. Fascism! Bummer! Genocide! Horrow [sic] show! " It is however done with a great deal of satirical detail, for example: "He [Ed Sanders] brought him [Hoffman] to his feet when he revealed to during a cross examination that the Yippies had planned for 'dawn ass washing' and a giant ceremony at Soldier's field in which "Hubert Humphrey would confess to Allen Ginsberg his secret preference for anal intercourse." Nixon, Richard
Boehm 1969. The model is marked 497 to the base, it is mounted upon a specially made mahogany plinth with a brass presentation plaque, which reads: The Rt Hon Harold Wilson, D.B.E. M. P. Prime Minister of Great Britain From Richard Nixon President of the United States of America February 1969. The "special relationship" between the U.K. and the U.S. was at its height during the cold war era, Nixon referencing the relationship several times in the speech he made when arriving at Heathrow airport in 1969. There is a long history of gifts given between U.K. Prime Ministers and U.S. Presidents, but as this gift giving is generally a private affair between the individuals involved the nature of the gifts is not always disclosed to the public. When the gifts are revealed there is inevitably speculation as to their potential significance. In this instance the relationship prior to the first meeting was strained, due to obvious factors such as Britain's refusal to participate in the Vietnam War, and more subtly because Wilson had chosen John Freeman to go to Washington as the British Ambassador, anticipating a victory for Democratic candidate Hubert Humphrey in the 1968 election, in the event Nixon won the election and remembered Freeman's scathing criticisms of him during the 1964 campaign. Wilson's charm won out, and, despite their obvious differences in personality and politics, the two subsequently had a warm relationship. However, the gift of the tern was chosen prior to Wilson's charm offensive and it's interesting to speculate whether it contained a coded message to Wilson, … [Click Below for Full Description]

Fonda, Peter and Dennis Hopper
Large original glossy color photograph of the 1969 film Easy Rider stars Peter Fonda and Dennis Hooper cruising on their choppers. Boldly signed by both Fonda and Hopper. The photograph measures 14 inches by 11 inches. The 1969 film Easy Rider is a milestone in counterculture film-making. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch appropriately described it in 2001 as a "touchstone for a generation[that] captured the national imagination." Easy Rider is a landscape portrait of the 1960's societal tensions: the hippie movement, drug use, and communal lifestyle. The film is infamous for its use of real drugs and other substances (Easy Rider: Shaking the Cage, 1999). [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

Peter Owen, 1969. Very good condition in acceptable dust jacket. Signed by author. The Lolly-Madonna War by Sue Grafton. Published by Peter Owen in 1969. This is a first edition hardcover book with dust jacket and measures about 7 1/2" x 5" with 189 pages. First British Commonwealth Edition is stated on the copyright page and the original price of 35s is on the dust jacket flap, which for this publisher means it is a first edition. This is the second book written by Sue Grafton and was made into a movie. It's also by far the rarest of any of her books. The book is in VERY GOOD condition. The orange cover has very little wear, the binding is tight, and the pages are in excellent shape except the first blank page has the top right torn off, probably where there was a prior owner's name. The dust jacket is in ACCEPTABLE condition with wear and a torn piece on the top front and another in the middle on the back. The title page has been signed with a Sharpie by the author. We acquired this book from the person that had it signed. Thanks for looking! We ship all orders within 1 business day of payment. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; In Dust Jacket]

np, 1969. Third edition. Wraps. 8vo. Publisher's wraps in original glassine. SIGNED by Ruscha at inside front cover. Mild toning and chipping to glassine with price sticker at front flap and some creasing to flaps. Distributor sticker at final page. Trivial touches of wear to wraps at edges. Interior bright and clean. Near fine. Near fine. Third edition of the first of Ruscha's sixteen books and an iconic early artist's book. Inspired by the look and feel of the books he encountered at the bouquiniste stands on the Left Bank during a 1961 trip to Paris, as well as his own work as a typesetter and printers devil, Ruscha self-published TWENTYSIX GAS STATIONS with an aesthetic reminiscent of iconic Editions Gallimard paperbacks. Conceiving first of the title, Ruscha took photographs to fill the requisite number on a road trip from Los Angeles to visit his mother in his hometown of Oklahoma City. The photographs, labeled with the station name and location, together form a dotted line between LA and Oklahoma, creating out of these stoically framed images of banal locations a deep emotional resonance. Josef Koudelka (Autor), Robert Delpire (Autor)
Thames & Hudson Ltd, 1969. This collection of pictures by an acknowledged master of photography, now updated to include 11 new images, forms a document of the spiritual and physical state of exile. The sense of private mystery that fills these photographs-mostly taken during Koudelka's many years of wandering through Europe and the United States since leaving his native Czechoslovakia-speaks of passion and reserve, of his "rage to see". The images here interrogate and penetrate, and reflect the nature of alienation. The accompanying essay by Robert Delpire invokes the soul of man in search of a spiritual homeland. Josef Koudelka's photographs of the Warsaw Pact armies' intervention in Prague won him the Robert Capa Gold Medal in 1969. In 1970 he left Czechoslovakia for asylum in England and became a member of Magnum Photos. Clarke, Arthur C. and Stanley Kubrick
New American Library, New York, 1969. Third printing of the novel of the landmark "proverbial good science fiction movie" he and Stanley Kubrick created. Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed and dated by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Vicky White with all good wishes Arthur C. Clarke 1969 Oct 11." Very good in a very good dust jacket. "Kubrick wrote to me in the spring of 1964, asking if I had any ideas that would enable him to make the 'proverbial good science fiction movie. I had already given Stanley a list of my shorter pieces, and we had decided that one-'The Sentinel'-contained a basic idea on which we could build. Stanley suggested that before we embarked on the drudgery of the script, we let our imaginations soar freely by writing a complete novel, from which we could devise the script. This is more or less the way it worked out, though toward the end, novel and screenplay were being written simultaneously, with feedback in both directions. Thus, I rewrote some sections after seeing the movie rushes-a rather expensive method of literary creation, which few other authors have enjoyed" (Clarke). With the success of both film and book, Clarke "became perhaps the best-known science fiction writer in the world" (Clute & Nicholls, 231). His novel (the first in an eventual tetraology) is "about the two things Clarke seems to think we mortals would most like to know in a universe in which we can only hope that the odds are in favor of the race's survival: that we are not alone and that we have not lived in vain" (John Hollow). CAGE, John and Lejaren A. Hiller
University of Illinois, 1969. First Edition. Three large original silk-screened posters, each roughly 38" by 28" and on heavy "construction"-like paper. Occasional tiny edge tears. A small chip here and there. Some minute pin holes. Else bright and sharp. Easily near fine or better. Near Fine. HPSCHD (pronounced "harpsichord") premiered at the Assembly Hall of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on May 16, 1969 as the culmination of a Cage artistic residency. One of the earliest musical works for computer, and ultimately a five-hour multimedia extravaganza, HPSCHD remains a landmark happening of the 1960s. Cage helped design and produce two of the posters using chance operations (the final example, depicting Cage as dragon slayer, we suspect is the work of a student who'd read too much Tolkien); these are therefore among his earliest forays into visual art. Fewer than one hundred of each were produced, and only 60 or so of the final poster (which required at least seven separate passes). The posters proved popular on campus and most were stolen for dorm display; individual examples are now rare, sets in this condition even more so. OCLC locates just one complete set (at the Getty, though we are aware of an uncatalogued set at Northwestern). A vivid group of posters representing some of Cage's first visual artworks and documenting a major Fluxus performance, one that Richard Kostelanetz called "one of the great artistic environments of the decade.".
