1950-1969. Medium: Oil or Gouache A Vintage 1960s abstract painting on paper by American artist Rolph Scarlett (1889 - 1984) measuring approximately 2 1/2 x 2 3/8 inches. This gem was possibly for a jewelry design as he returned to that passion in the '60s. Thanks for looking. Rolph Scarlett was born 1889 in Guelph, Ontario. His long life as an artist began in his teens as a jewelry designer and fabricator. At the age of fourteen he began to design jewelry professionally, a craft which he continued off and on for the rest of his life. His desire to learn more about art took him to New York in 1908, when American artists were just beginning to experience strong influences from major modern European artists of the day such as Cezanne and Picasso. Throughout his long career he produced, oil paintings, many works on paper, unique sculptured jewelry, modernist style industrial and furniture designs. Currently there are over 800 of his designs at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Design Collection. In 1928 he moved to Hollywood, California where he became a very successful stage and set designer. In the mid-1930s he met the director of the Museum of Non-objective Art in New York ( Hilla Rebay). He became her close associate and advisor in organizing and running the museum. He was Chief lecturer at the museum (1939 -1946) teaching the new modernism and abstraction to the new generation of artists in the New York art community. Hilla Rebay would introduce him as ƒ??Rolph Scarlett, my great findƒ?. So considerable was her enthusiasm for Scarlett, that she and Solomon Guggenheim boug … [Click Below for Full Description]

Plaza, Julio & Augusto de Campos
São Paulo, Julio Pacello, 1969 (9 de avril), Rarissima edizione originale. Opera prima. [Click Below for Full Description]

Clausnitzer & Greco Wong Published by Paul H. Crompton Ltd, London, 1969 Goner: Martial Arts & Self-Defence, Combat Sports Used/ Hardcover [First Edition] Wing-Chun Kung-Fu contrasts nicely with the foregoing Black Belt articles. It was widely distributed in a popular periodical and aimed at individuals who probably had never heard of the art before. Clausnitzer and Wong's project, coming just one year later, was a vastly more detailed and substantive work. However, it was only aimed at a small audience, those individuals who were already looking for a source on Kung Fu and who may have even been familiar with Wing Chun. VONNEGUT, Kurt, Jr
New York: Delacorte, 1969. Signed on the haf-title page by the author. First edition / First printing. Blue cloth. Fine in fine dust jacket. A remarkably fresh and attractive copy, with just a hint of toning to the spine of this fragile dust jacket.. The author's breakthrough masterpiece. After twenty years of struggling for critical and popular success, this book gave him the audience and recognition he had sought. The horrific firebombing of Dresden, which he witnessed as a POW, shocked Vonnegut into a lifelong distrust of the senseless and amoral violence of all war. A classic of counter-culture literature.

Kurt Vonnegut
Delacorte Press, New York, 1969. First Edition, First Printing of the author's masterpiece. Signed by Kurt Vonnegut directly on the half-title page. Loosely laid in is a cutout from the return mailer bearing Vonnegut's handwritten return address in NYC. Fine in a near fine dust jacket in archival protective cover. Arguably Vonnegut's most famous and influential novel. It was nominated for both the Nebula and the Hugo Awards, in science fiction. Nonetheless, as a loser, it still made both the Modern Library and the Time Magazine lists for the best English-language novels written in the 20th century. "Slaughterhouse-Five, perhaps Vonnegut's most powerful novel, presents two characters who can see beneath the surface to the tragic realities of human history but make no attempt to bring about change. The central event is the destruction of Dresden by bombs and fire storm--a catastrophe that Vonnegut himself witnessed as a prisoner of war". "Kurt Vonnegut knows all the tricks of the writing game. So he has not even tried to describe the bombing. Instead he has written around it in a highly imaginative, often funny, nearly psychedelic story. The story is sandwiched between an autobiographical introduction and epilogue" (The New York Times). [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; In Dust Jacket]

Vonnegut, Kurt
New York: Delacorte Press / Seymour Lawrence, 1969. Hard Cover. First Edition. Near Fine / Dust Jacket Included. First edition, first printing, advance review copy with publisher's review slip laid in. Publisher's turquoise cloth, stamped in gilt to front board with author's facsimile signature, lettered in gilt and metallic red to spine, black endpapers; in the original dust jacket designed by Paul Bacon, lettered in black, red, and bright blue, photograph of Vonnegut by Bossi to rear panel. A near fine copy with some light toning to extremities, previous owner's initials to first free leaf; in a near fine dust jacket with toning to extremities and a touch of creasing to top edge. Overall, a tight, clean copy. Perhaps Vonnegut's best-known novel, Slaughterhouse-Five tells the story of Billy Pilgrim's experience as an American soldier in Europe during World War II. The plot centers on the Allied bombing of Dresden, Germany, in 1945, an event Vonnegut experienced himself during the war. A combination of historic and science fiction, Slaughterhouse-Five also features the fictional planet Tralfamadore, where Pilgrim, a man who is "unstuck in time" and involuntarily traveling between time and space, is taken captive after his daughter's wedding. As the The New York Times wrote in its 1969 review, "It sounds crazy. It sounds like a fantastic last-ditch effort to make sense of a lunatic universe. But there is so much more to this book. It is very tough and very funny; it is sad and delightful; and it works.". [Attributes: First Edition; In Dust Jacket]

Vonnegut, Jr., Kurt
Delacorte Press, New York, 1969. First edition of Vonnegut's masterpiece. Octavo, original blue cloth. Boldly signed by Kurt Vonnegut, who has drawn a self-caricature on the half-title page. Fine in a very good dust jacket. Jacket design by Paul Bacon. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. "Slaughterhouse-Five, perhaps Vonnegut’s most powerful novel, presents two characters who can see beneath the surface to the tragic realities of human history but make no attempt to bring about change The central event is the destruction of Dresden by bombs and fire storm—a catastrophe that Vonnegut himself witnessed as a prisoner of war" (Vinson, 1414-15). It is the basis for the 1972 film bearing the same name. The screenplay written by Stephen Geller and directed by George Roy Hill. It stars Michael Sacks, Ron Leibman, and Valerie Perrine, and features Eugene Roche, Sharon Gans, Holly Near, and Perry King. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

VONNEGUT, Kurt, Jr.
Delacorte, New York, 1969. First edition / First printing. Signed on the haf-title page by the author. Blue cloth. 186 pages. Fine in fine dust jacket. A remarkably fresh and attractive copy, with just a hint of toning to the spine of this fragile dust jacket. Mario Puzo
very good/ near fine. Mario Puzo (1969) 'The Godfather', US first edition, first printing, Published by Putnam. Signed and inscribed on the half-title page: "For Joe Collins 'an offer you can't refuse' Best wishes Mario Puzo". Inscription appears to be for Joe Collins, an agent for numerous stars and father of actress Joan Collins and writer Jackie Collins (who also wrote about mobsters). Puzo inscribed the book in blood red pen by quoting a famous threatening line from Don Corleone. It is possible that Collins made him indeed an offer to become his agent or similar. Condition: very good plus/ near fine with slight shelf wear. Dust jacket is price clipped, but unlike many first editions, the dust jacket does not make up over 50% of the price. At least until the 8th print the dust jackets look exactly the same as the first print (first state) dust jacket, so replacement wrappers can easily be obtained should the collector wish an unclipped specimen. Signed first editions are exceptionally scarce, most often they are offered by dealers with a signature on a book plate or as 'flat signed' copies with dubious provenance at best. We had the signature authenticated and registered for the peace of mind. The only comparable signed first edition copy on the market is currently offered by a competitor in the US for USD 20,000. 'The Godfather' is a landmark novel which popularised the mafia genre. The famous 1972 Francis Ford Coppola film adaptation won three Oscars (including for Puzo for best adapted screenplay). The 1974 sequel earned six more Academy Awards and Puzo won again for … [Click Below for Full Description]

1969. Book is in a very good Condition. No inscriptions, tears with an intact full original dust Jacket. The dust jacket has slight damage on the top corner of the back of the book. The book is not in mint condition and the dust jacket does show signs of age eg. very slight scuffing. I am selling a rare copy of Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It is not a first print because it does not have a number line but it is an early USA edition because it was printed before 'World' publishing was taken over and became 'Collins-World' in 1974. It has other indications that it is an early edition: The A3450 Code at the base and bottom of the dust Jacket and mirrored in the book. It has the original dust jacket with the 'World Publishing' logo on the dust Jacket and the same logo on the publication page. The dust jacket also has the original un-clipped price of $3.95 and WLB of $3.91 I will be posting this book with recorded / Signed for post and the cost is reflected in the price of postage, Please e-mail me for accurate shipping price as item is located in Germany. IRVING Irving
1969. Edited by Patience Gray. With eleven engravings by Nicole [Fenosa]. One of 150 copies for sale of a total edition of 165, signed by the editor and artist. Unbound sheets in original chemise and slipcase. Paris, ?Printed at the expense of a friend, and obtainable from Lucien Scheler? A beautiful production. Davis, legendary bookseller and publisher of Norman Douglas, D.H. Lawrence and others, was as famous a host and chef as he was a bookman. The text (the ?impossibility? of the recipes is a reference to availability of ingredients) was assembled and finished after his death by his friend and fellow food writer Patience Gray, and the very fine engravings are by the wife of sculptor Apel-Les Fenosa, with whom he would often stay in Catalonia. It has recently been re-issued in a trade edition.Slipcase slightly worn, otherwise a fine copy. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

see below. Farmer Giles of Ham J.R.R Tolkien Pauline Baynes Signed I have for sale this hardback copy of Farmer Giles of Ham 1969. This is the first edition/sixth impression UK edition with original dust wrapper printed by George Allan & Unwin. Beautifully illustrated by Pauline Baynes telling the story of the farmer and the dragon. Again another book from my own library and owned for a number of years. Book has original boards, pages clean but minor water marks at bottom of most as shown in pictures. Jacket is unclipped and bears original price. No loss but some handling marks and water marks particularly on rear as shown. Again the very special thing about this book is it is signed by Pauline on the title page. Signed Tolkien books rarely appear and are the star of many a collection. This is a real rarity and I can't recall seeing another one appear on eBay for some years. Now in a removable protective jacket. Maximum photos included but if anyone wants any more please ask. As per my normal policy I will refund any overpaid postage once dispatched. Please see my other Tolkien items including a signed Tom Bombadil and Smith Wootton Major ! Thanks for looking. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; In Dust Jacket]
