VONNEGUT, Kurt, Jr
NY: Delacorte, 1969. First edition of this, the author's most notable novel -- about the fire bombing of Dresden. This copy is signed by Paul Collins, and dated in year of publication. He had something to do with either the author or Delacorte Press, because this is a presentation copy of Dr. Charles Brown, who, according to a laid in note, found an error on Page 158 that has "already been brought to the author's attention". I cannot detect the error, so it may have to do with historical fact. A most handsome copy of a book that is getting harder to locate in collectable condition. A bookplate signed by Mr. Vonnegut is laid in. . AUTHOR-SIGNED Bookplate. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine.

The ultimate in sexist art, contrived copulation machines with mostly female subjects. "Tomi Ungerer's sexual contraptions are not the soft machines of mind, nor the impalpable machines of human relationship, but the self-parodying, hard mechanicals of alienated geniality. They are pictures of a dehumanized screwing (and how relevant the mechanical pun is here) that is as far from the purely animal in one direction as the most sublimated idealizations are in another." SIMON, Neil
NY: Random House. (1969). An early play by one of the most admired and successful playwrights and screenwriters of his time, who won two Tony Awards for Best Play and earned four Academy Award nominations, among numerous other awards. Plaza Suite was directed by Mike Nichols when it opened on Broadway, with George C. Scott and Maureen Stapleton starring. Nichols won a Tony Award for Best Director for his work on the play and Scott and Stapleton each received Tony nominations. Stapleton also starred in the 1971 film version, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. The film was directed by Arthur Hiller. This copy is inscribed by Simon to film director Tony Harvey: "To Tony - I hope you do it - Neil." Harvey had directed The Lion in Winter in 1968, for which he received an Oscar nomination, and Simon's inscription indicates a desire at that time for Harvey to direct the film adaptation of the play. Page edges foxed; crown cloth sunned; indent to upper rear board; about near fine in a rubbed and spine-faded dust jacket. A nice association copy, and a small but notable bit of film history. . RICH, Adrienne [LOWELL, Robert]
W. W. Norton & Company (1969), New York. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper to Robert Lowell, Elizabeth Hardwick, and their only child Harriet: "For Elizabeth + Cal + Harriet-/with always more love-/Adrienne." Lowell appropriated the book and the margins are filled with his ticks and slashes and a few words, especially in the section "Ghazals, Homage to Ghalib," a series of meditations on contemporary life modeled on Ghalib; the similarity to the poems Lowell was then working on for NOTEBOOKS and HISTORY is remarkable as is the association value of this copy. Three years later Lowell would publish THE DOLPHIN which Rich called "a cruel and shallow book" and "one of the most vindictive and mean-spirited acts in the history of poetry." Writing in AMERICAN POETRY REVIEW, she said: "what does one say about a poet who, having left his wife and daughter for another marriage, then titles a book with their names [FOR LIZZIE AND HARRIET] and goes on to appropriate his ex-wife’s letters written under the stress and pain of desertion, into a book of poems nominally addressed to the new wife?" Akiyama Terukazu et al [ed.]
Shougakukan [Shogakkan, Shogakukan], Tokyo. Tokyo: Shogakkan (Shougakukan, Shogakukan), 1969. First Edition, First Printing. Folio, 14 1/4" x 10" , 251 pp. Profusely illustrated with plates and gatefolds. Text in Japanese, with English translation for list of plates. Cloth, pictorial jacket, pictorial slipcase. Book is in fine condition, jacket in sharp near fine; slipcase shows some soiling and edgewear, is very good. Number 14 in Shogakkan's deluxe and comprehensive - and oversized - 30-volume series, Genshoku Nihon no Bijutsu, treating the primary colors of Japanese art. This volume focuses on the work of Sotatsu and Korin (Soutatsu and Kourin), and includes 172 pages illustrating 138 works of art, followed by a section illustrating the artists' personal seals and signatures, then the standard in-depth text section (in Japanese) with black and white illustrations. Bear in mind that this book reads in traditional Japanese format, starting from what we in the west would call the back of the book, so the text portion, to a westerner, is at the "front". Beautiful, large, rarely accessible in the west in any form; this is a first printing. Lavish format. L1 [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Salzburg, "c/o Bayer", 1969.. Zusammen (¾+¾+½ =) 2 SS. auf 3 Bll. Gr.-4to. Nachschrift.
