        Door Into the Dark [Signed]

New York: Oxford University Press, 1969. First American Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First printing of the Nobel prize-winner's second commercially published work (preceded by Death of a Naturalist, in 1966), one of only 1,000 copies (purchased from Faber and Faber, Heaney's London publisher). Tall, slim 8vo: 56pp. Publisher's finely woven black cloth, spine stamped in gilt; cream-colored dust jacket printed in red and green and priced $3.75. Signed by Heaney on title page and dated 18th March 1971, beneath which appears: "to set the darkness echoing" (from the final line of Heaney's poem Personal Helicon, in Death of a Naturalist). Virtually As New (former owner's short last name in small hand on front flyleaf), very tight, square and unread; about Fine jacket, fresh and bright, with single short closed tear to top of jacket's back panel. A superb copy, with an uncommon early signature. Brandes & Durkan A5. "Seamus Heaney has been, for good or ill, internationally the most prominent and the most popular Irish poet of the latter part of the twentieth century and the first part of the twenty-first. . . . His first two collections, Death of a Naturalist and Door into the Dark, largely written before the renewed outbreak of the so-called 'Troubles' in 1968, show Heaney alerting his audience to the violent history of colonisation on his native ground, but preoccupied also by the rhythms of life in a rural setting remembered from his childhood. He also, in a Wordsworthian manner, focuses upon the sources and resources of his own poetic voice and power. N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.

        Kaliflower, Volume Five

Very Good HC, no DJ. Beige cloth over boards, white stylized woman?s head with hair spelling 'Kaliflower' on front cover, the hair wrapping around spine onto back cover; gray laid paper end papers. Bright generally clean covers and spine have few small spots; firm, square corners; tightly bound; crisp, clean interior. Brilliant colorful images and print on every page. Starting in April of 1969, Sutter Street Commune in S.F., following Digger philosophy, began issuing a free intercommunal newspaper to area communes to ?pass the dharma?, i.e., share information with other like-minded communards. For the next 3 years Kaliflower was distributed on a weekly basis, eventually to nearly 300 communes. This volume is drawn from some of those issues but also has some commentary about the making and growth of Kaliflower. As with everything this group produced, nothing is signed or attributed. One of the Sutter Street Commune founders was an experienced printer and the press work was high quality. This is a nicely bound, fine quality volume. Large 4to, 256 pp.

        [Poster]: Como en Viet Nam

[No place - Peking?: no publisher, circa 1969]. [No place - Peking?: no publisher. circa 1969]. Small poster, approximately 11" x 17". Shrinkwrapped onto foam core backer. Very slight fading along the right-hand edge, a tiny pinhole, a few small stains, still very near fine. Four-color multichrome image in the foreground of a worker oiling machinery, while the top, more vivid image is of a cheerful looking peasant loading a mortar shell. Our Spanish is minimal, but the meaning is essentially, "What it's like in Vietnam." No publication information, but this came from a small group of Chinese propaganda posters (in non-Chinese languages) printed in China, mostly dated around 1969. We have seen an online citation of this poster describing it as being produced in Australia by the anti-war movement, but we have our doubts. .

        America house wrapped 1969. Siebdruck.

90 x 62,5 cm, Tadell.

4to. pp. 122. Dedica e firma autografe dell'Autore datata 5-05-00 (Inscribed and signed by the Author, dated 5-05-00). Ottimo (Fine). . Prima edizione (First Edition). .
