        Master and Commander

Philadelphia:: Lippincott,, 1969. . This is the true First Printing, preceding the UK edition by one year. A Very Good plus copy with a previous owner inscription on the flyleaf. The price clipped jacket has a closed edge tear, a closed tear to the fold of the rear flap and chipping to the bottom edge of the spine. There is also some of the usualy rubbing to the rear jacket panel. Overall a very respectable copy of an increasingly difficult book to locate in collector's condition. The first book in the Aubrey/Maturin series that inspired the film starring Russell Crowe..

A Very Near Fine copy of the first American edition, first printing (some spotting to the topstain, minor spot to front free endpaper -- otherwise Fine), in a Very Near Fine dust jacket (light wear to the spine ends, small spot to the rear panel), SIGNED BY J. M. G. LE CLÉZIO on the half-title and there fittingly inscribed by him as follows: "a voyage imaginaire / avec le merci / de JMG le Clezio"; le Clézio's third novel, a tale centered on Chancelade, a man who, from childhood to death, sees his life in minute detail. J. M. G. le Clézio' won the 1963 Prix Renaudot for his novel debut novel "Le Procès-Verbal" (published in English as "The Interrogation"), and the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature as an "author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization". Of "terra amata, the Wall Street Journal stated (in 2008, after le Clézio had published over 36 books ) "...Mr. Le Clézio's most impressive book may be a brief one he published at age 27, when he was still a combative modernist. "Terra Amata," translated into English in 1967, combines his game-playing as the author with a savage lyricism reminiscent of Thomas Hardy." We have not seen any other signed copies of the book in any language. A Very Near Fine copy, SIGNED BY J. M. G. LE CLEZIO. QUITE SCARCE.

        President Nixon Inauguration Tickets

Philadelphi: Globe Ticket Company. 1969. Three tickets to the inauguration of President Richard M. Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew on January 20, 1969. The tickets measure 7.25" x 2.5" and are printed on both sides. There is some light wear to the tickets and a couple spots but they are unused with the stub still attached, overall near fine. Each of the three tickets is different with two printed on stiff white card stock with different color inks used for each; the third ticket is printed on a stiff gold-coated card stock. Each shows a portrait of Nixon and Agnew with various illustrations of America on one side and the event information on the other. One white card stock ticket has a price of $12.00 and a location on the mall, while the other white ticket has no price and is for an "Honored Guest" with seating near the White House. The final gold foil ticket was likely reserved for V.I.P.s with seating on the "Presidential Reviewing Stand"; additional research may well determine who's actual seat this was but our Nixon Presidential Library card has expired and we have not had time to renew it just yet. Nevertheless, an interesting selection of tickets from President Nixon's first term as president. .

        [Manuscript]: "Death at the Chase"

[1969]. First. Typed manuscript bound in red cloth. Folio. Fine. Signed by the author on the title page. Mostly ribbon, and some carbon leaves, many corrections in type, a few in ink or pencil. Accompanied by a Typed Letter Signed and an Autograph Letter Signed from the author (both using his given name, J.I.M. Stewart) responding to an inquiry about purchasing some of his manuscripts, and offering this and another, A Family Affair. One of the TLS is particularly interesting in that it reveals: "There are no Michael Innes manuscripts in any strict sense. I work on a typewriter, revise the single copy thus produced to an extent requiring a certain amount of sisors [sic] and paste, and have a couple of xerox copies made of the result. But it is only of a few of the later novels that anything of this sort is extant. I could send you a paste-up of either DEATH AT THE CHASE or A FAMILY AFFAIR (PICTURE OF GUILT) and suggest that for either of them seventy-five dollars would be a fair price." Accompanied by a canceled check Signed by Stewart for $75. Thus, according to the author, one of very few of his existing manuscripts. .

        Andy Warhol (Stockholm Catalogue)

Stockholm: Moderna Museet, (1969). Top edge bumped, middle signature in the photographic section slightly protruding, a bright, close to near fine copy in the distinctive silkscreened flower wrappers. Housed in a custom clamshell box.. First Edition. Quarto. Warhol has SIGNED the title page twice, with "76" written next to the second signature. Warhol's famous 'Stockholm Catalogue,' published on the occasion of his first European solo show at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, February - March, 1968. The concept for the catalogue was developed by Kasper König, who commissioned Factory stalwart Billy Name, and a teenage Stephen Store, to photograph how Warhol and his coconspirators lived and worked. But it was König's use of the xerox machine to reproduce Warhol's own work that gives this catalogue its signature feel. By some estimates over 200,000 copies were printed in three editions. (Parr / Badger, v2, 144-145; Open Book 238-239).
