Garden City: Doubleday & Company, Inc. [Doubleday Science Fiction], 1969. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. An about Very Good copy of the quite uncommon first edition, first printing (some curving to the boards, endpapers renewed) in an about Very Good dust jacket (restoration to the lower spine, to a small chip at the bottom of the front panel, and to the outer portions of each flap -- a copy which we thus conclude to be ex library but without any indication thereof except as described above); a landmark science fiction novel described by novelist and journalist Lev Grossman as "a deeply unsettling existential horror story, a nightmare you'll never be sure you've woken up from". Philip Dick's former wife, Tessa, stated that "Ubik is a metaphor for God. Ubik is all-powerful and all-knowing, and Ubik is everywhere. The spray can is only a form that Ubik takes to make it easy for people to understand it and use it. It is not the substance inside the can that helps them, but rather their faith in the promise that it will help them". She explains the curious ending as having been intended to show that we cannot be certain of anything in the world that we call reality. Time magazine named the novel as one of the hundred greatest English-language novels published since 1923. Copies of the first edition that are not ex-library are quite scarce. All things considered, a Very Good copy.

Text in English and Swedish. Bumps to corners. Really the brightest copy I've ever seen, no browning or sunning anywhere. More images available on request. One of the great books. Kasper Konig developed the concept for the catalogue, and commission Billy Name and a teenage Stephen Shore to heavily document Warhol and factory life. Parr in the photobook vol.2 "It is a fine example of the catalogue-as-artist's-book, a form that ostensibly began with the Dadaists and Surrealists, and is produced with some of the roughest reproductions ever seen, which are entirely appropriate, and supplemented by a long section of Factory snapshots by Billy Name. The genre was revitalized by the Pop movement, and Warhol in particular, which demonstrates his position as a latter-day Dadaist. The Moderna Museet publication especially had a great influence upon Japanese photography in the late 1960s and 1970s, particularly the photobooks of the Provoke era.Ó

Scholastic Publications, New York 1969 - Elephant Folio 23" tall; 1 pages; 1969 Scholastic Publications. A very early and very uncommon poster for Sendak's Wild Things. Issued by Scholastic to announce their pending (1st paperback) publication of Sendak's most celebrated work. This is a very large poster measuring 27 x 40 inches. Distributed to teachers and schools, it is safe to assume that most were consumed in the process of display and use. This example may have been unfolded once but remains very nearly as new in its original folded "distribution" condition. A high point in the range of Sendak posters, beacuse of its unique association with the Wild Things book, and the difficulty in finding copies in well preseved condition. 12 years handling Sendak material and I have seen no example in better condition, including several I have sold to institutions and collectors.         The Complete Works of Walter Savage Landor

New York - Barnes and Noble, 1969. New York - Barnes and Noble, 1969 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. The complete works of Walter Savage Landor, nineteenth-century writer and poet. With frontispieces to each volume. Including his famousImaginary Conversations, along with his poetry. In a long and active life of eighty-nine years Landor produced a considerable amount of work in various genres. This can perhaps be classified into four main areasprose, lyric poetry, political writings including epigrams and Latin. His prose and poetry have received most acclaim, but critics are divided in their preference between them. Landors prose is best represented by the Imaginary Conversations. He drew on a vast array of historical characters from Greek philosophers to contemporary writers and composed conversations between pairs of characters that covered areas of philosophy, politics, romance and many other topics. These exercises proved a more successful application of Landors natural ability for writing dialogue than his plays. Although these have many quotable passages the overall effect suffered because he never learned the art of drama. Landor wrote much sensitive and beautiful poetry. The love poems were inspired by a succession of female romantic idealsIone, Ianthe, Rose Aylmer and Rose Paynter. Equally sensitive are his domestic poems about his sister and his children. In the course of his career Landor wrote for various journals on a range of topics that interested him from anti-Pitt politics to the unification of Italy. He was also a master of the epigram which he used to good effect and wrote satirically to avenge himself on politicians and other people who upset him. Reprinted from the 1927-1936 Chapman and Hall edition. Complete in sixteen volumes. Condition: In green cloth bindings. Externally very smart, with just some minor shelfwear to a few volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just theodd patch of foxing. Overall: NEAR FINE..

        RECH GIA

Grafica moderna-contemporanea 1969 - Tiratura: E.A. Voyage to Atlantis

Atlantis is a legendary island first mentioned in Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias, written about 360 BC. According to Plato, Atlantis was a naval power lying in front of the Pillars of Hercules that conquered many parts of Western Europe and Africa 9,000 years before the time of Solon, or approximately 9600 BC. After a failed attempt to invade Athens, Atlantis sank into the ocean in a single day and night of misfortune. The possible existence of a genuine Atlantis was discussed throughout classical antiquity, but it was usually rejected and occasionally parodied by later authors. Atlantis inspires today's literature, from science fiction to comic books to films. Its name has become a byword for any and all supposed advanced prehistoric lost civilizations. Jame's Mavor led an expedition to discover Atlantis and find the cause of its downfall. He succeeded, recording the history of a cataclysmic natural disaster that sunk the fabled island. Mavor inspired further research into past volcanic eruptions and floods, and brings the myth of Atlantis into the light of scientific reality. Condition: In a half calf binding. Externally smart, some shelfwear and marks to the rear board. Internally firmly bound, aside from the half-title which is working loose. Marginal age-toning, but clean throughout with just the veryodd spot. Overall: VERY GOOD.

An experimental novel published in twenty-seven unbound sections, and presented in a pictorial slipcase. First edition. A sportswriter is sent to a small city (Nottingham) on an assignment, only to find himself confronted by ghosts from his past. Externally sound, with just a few marks and some light shelfwear. Internally, the twenty-seven sections of the novel are bound together with a removable wrapper. The pages are bright and clean.
