        Sculptor's Daughter

London: Ernest Benn Ltd., 1969. 175 pages. Sound copy with clean text pages. Hardcover backed in black with gilt titling, red tweed-looking boards. Top edge dyed red. Boards show mild-to-moderate edgewear with some colour loss; lower corners bumped. Very minor slant to spine, binding is sound but somewhat relaxed (if opened, usually remains so). Exlibrary cosmetic defects include tapemarks to boards and endpapers, inkstamps to prelims (not edges) and pocket remnants on inside back cover; fingerprints on blank page facing first text page. Dust jacket is priceclipped, sunned on spine, has library tapemarks to reverse that show on front, light wear to extremities, faint watermarks along edge (no effect to book). Still relatively presentable in new mylar cover. Overall a sturdy and serviceable copy of Tove Jansson's enchanting, and regrettably scarce, autobiography. Search the inventory of Shannon's Bookshelf for more Tove Jansson books.. First UK Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 5.5 x 8.5 in. (14cm x 21.5cm). Ex-Library.

The Brown Wasps: A Collection of Three Essays in Autobiography

Mount Horeb: The Perishable Press Limited. 1969. First. First edition. Illustrated by Jack Beal. Bound by Douglas Cockerell and Son using three different marbled papers. Tiny bump to one corner, still easily fine in marbled papercovered boards. Colophon states that there were 200 copies on Charter Oak paper, and fifty-six copies on Shadwell, although a laid in printed statement from the publisher asserts that there were only 185 copies on Charter Oak. This appears to be one of the fifty-six on Shadwell. One of the AIGA's 50 best designed books of the year. Easily Eiseley's scarcest book. .

        The Dance of the Solids

[NY]: (Scientific American). (1969). The first separate edition of this physics-themed poem. One of 6200 copies printed as Christmas cards to be issued with W.H. Auden's A New Year Greeting (not present). 24 pages, illustrated. Fine in stapled wrappers. Lacking the cardboard sleeve that combined the two booklets, but in a custom three quarter leather clamshell case from the Praxis Bindery. This copy is inscribed by the author: "For ___/ Merry Christmas 1995/ John Updike [with a drawing of holly leaves and berries]." While the print run of this item was not particularly small, especially when compared with the many limited editions Updike has done, the nature of its distribution -- as a freebie to Scientific American subscribers -- suggests that most copies would have been lost or discarded.         Primary Colors of Japanese Art 14: The Paintings of Sotatsu and Korin (Genshoku Nihon no Bijutsu 14: Soutatsu to Kourin]

Shougakukan [Shogakkan, Shogakukan], Tokyo 1969 - Tokyo: Shogakkan (Shougakukan, Shogakukan), 1969. First Edition, First Printing. Folio, 14 1/4" x 10" , 251 pp. Profusely illustrated with plates and gatefolds. Text in Japanese, with English translation for list of plates. Cloth, pictorial jackey, pictoiral slipcase. Book is in fine condition, jacket in sharp near fine; slipcase shows some soiling and edgewear, is very good. Number 14 in Shogakkan's deluxe and comprehensive - and oversized - 30-volume series, Genshoku Nihon no Bijutsu, treating the primary colors of Japanese art. This volume focuses on the work of Sotatsu and Korin (Soutatsu and Kourin), and includes 172 pages illustrating 138 works of art, followed by a section illustrating the artists' personal seals and signatures, then the standard in-depth text section (in Japanese) with black and white illustrations. Bear in mind that this book reads in traditional Japanese format, starting from what we in the west would call the back of the book, so the text portion, to a westerner, is at the "front". Beautiful, large, rarely accessible in the west in any form; this is a first printing. Lavish format. L49 [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
