Gli esclusi. Fotoreportage da un'istituzione totale

Milano: Il Diaframma, 1969. Prima edizione (First edition). ril, sovrac (hard cover, DJ). Ottimo (Fine). 4to.

The Message: A Gothic Tale of the AI

(Wiltshire): Compton Press. (1969). First. First edition. Illustrated by Patrick Procktor. Quarto. 13, [1]pp. Stapled illustrated wrappers. A bit of age-toning on the wrappers, near fine. Short story of two men looking for love in the English countryside. Inscribed by Procktor: "Happy Christmas Dickey, Patrick." On the facing page is a full-page pencil drawing by Procktor (very similar to the frontispiece drawing) labeled "Karlie." One hand correction in the text. Procktor was a flamboyant Irish-born painter and member of the Royal Academy who according to one source despite being married "flaunted his homosexuality and dressed exotically." His first exhibition in 1963 was a great success and his reputation was enhanced and resulted in, among other things, his winning of numerous commissions to design sleeves for pop records (his painting "The Guardian Readers" is the cover of Elton John's album "Blue Moves"). His circle included David Hockney and Francis Bacon, among others. Several photographs of Procktor by Cecil Beaton hang in the National Portrait Gallery, as does Procktor's own drawing of Joe Orton. Procktor's drawings sell actively at auction. Rare. OCLC locates a single copy, in Australia. .

Thin Films on Glass Schott Series on Glass and Glass Ceramics

Springer. Hardcover. New. Hardcover. 432 pages. Dimensions: 9.3in. x 6.3in. x 0.5in.This book, entitled Thin Films on Glass, is one of a series reporting on research and development activities on products and processes conducted by the Schott Group. The scientifically founded development of new products and technical pro cesses has traditionally been of vital importance to Schott and has always been performed on a scale determined by the prospects for application of our special glasses. Since the reconstruction of the Schott Glaswerke in Mainz, the scale has increased enormously. The range of expert knowledge required could never have been supplied by Schott alone. It is also a tradition in our company to cultivate collaboration with customers, universities, and research institutes. Publications in numerous technical journals, which since 1969 we have edited to a regular schedule as Forschungsberichte - research reports - describe the results of these cooperations. They contain up-to-date infor mation on various topics for the expert but are not suited as survey material for those whose standpoint is more remote. This is the point where we would like to place our series, to stimulate the exchange of thoughts, so that we can consider from different points of view the possibilities offered by those incredibly versatile materials, glass and glass ceramics. We would like to share the knowledge won through our research and development at Schott in cooperation with the users of our materials with scientists and engineers, interested customers and friends, and with the employees of our firm. This item ships from multiple locations. Your book may arrive from Roseburg,OR, La Vergne,TN.

        Sculptor's Daughter

London: Ernest Benn Ltd., 1969. 175 pages. Sound copy with clean text pages. Hardcover backed in black with gilt titling, red tweed-looking boards. Top edge dyed red. Boards show mild-to-moderate edgewear with some colour loss; lower corners bumped. Very minor slant to spine, binding is sound but somewhat relaxed (if opened, usually remains so). Exlibrary cosmetic defects include tapemarks to boards and endpapers, inkstamps to prelims (not edges) and pocket remnants on inside back cover; fingerprints on blank page facing first text page. Dust jacket is priceclipped, sunned on spine, has library tapemarks to reverse that show on front, light wear to extremities, faint watermarks along edge (no effect to book). Still relatively presentable in new mylar cover. Overall a sturdy and serviceable copy of Tove Jansson's enchanting, and regrettably scarce, autobiography.         The Brown Wasps: A Collection of Three Essays in Autobiography

Mount Horeb: The Perishable Press Limited. 1969. First. First edition. Illustrated by Jack Beal. Bound by Douglas Cockerell and Son using three different marbled papers. Tiny bump to one corner, still easily fine in marbled papercovered boards. Colophon states that there were 200 copies on Charter Oak paper, and fifty-six copies on Shadwell, although a laid in printed statement from the publisher asserts that there were only 185 copies on Charter Oak. This appears to be one of the fifty-six on Shadwell. One of the AIGA's 50 best designed books of the year. Easily Eiseley's scarcest book. .

        The Dance of the Solids

(Scientific American), [NY] 1969 - The first separate edition of this physics-themed poem. One of 6200 copies printed as Christmas cards to be issued with W.H. Auden's A New Year Greeting (not present). 24 pages, illustrated. Fine in stapled wrappers. Lacking the cardboard sleeve that combined the two booklets, but in a custom three quarter leather clamshell case from the Praxis Bindery. This copy is inscribed by the author: "For ___/ Merry Christmas 1995/ John Updike [with a drawing of holly leaves and berries]." While the print run of this item was not particularly small, especially when compared with the many limited editions Updike has done, the nature of its distribution -- as a freebie to Scientific American subscribers -- suggests that most copies would have been lost or discarded.         Hippolytos

Northampton: Gehenna Press, 1969. Folio. (70)pp. From an edition of 200 copies, this is an out-of-series printer's copy inscribed by Leonard Baskin to Arno Werner, who bound the book. One of the major productions of Baskin's Gehenna Press. Illustrated with ten etchings by Baskin, nine of which are signed by him, and one that is inscribed "Werner" in Baskin's hand. Signed plates are not noted in the Brook bibliography. Bound in morocco-backed marbled boards, the suite of etchings is housed in a chemise of marbled boards, and the two laid into a box of morocco-backed marbled boards. Foxing to plates and to the inside of their chemise, folding case shows some light wear to bottom edge. Morocco along the edges of the box's spine is starting, else a very fine copy of notable provenance.
