The Red Tent (Working script for the 1969 film)

Mosfilm, Soviet Union 1969 - Working post-production script for the 1969 film. Combination of typescript and carbon typescript, with notations in red holograph ink throughout. An unusual internal script from the production of the Soviet-Italian co-production that was ultimately distributed worldwide by Paramount Pictures. Not a post-production script in the typical sense, meaning a script that reflects the finished, edited film. Rather, a script that was produced in the midst of editing, with numerous notations regarding editing changes that still need to be made. The text is in English, but the wrapper is Italian, meaning that it was likely issued by the Italian arm of the production. The commander of a failed 1928 Arctic airship expedition remembers the events of the "Italia" airship flight, crash and subsequent rescue efforts. The "ghosts" of people involved in the events appear in his memories to assist him in determining his guilt in the affair. The reminiscences are mixed with the real action: the flight of the "Italia", the air rescue operation from Kings Bay airfield, the expedition of the "Krassin" ice-breaker. A sort of human touch is added by the ever beautiful C.C. playing Malmgren's girlfriend. Green studio wrappers. Noting 12 reels. Mimeograph on onionskin stock. Very Good. [Attributes: Soft Cover]

1969 1969 - 59 x 79 cm, Kleine Farbfehlstellen sonst tadell. Gerahmt hinter Glas. 6000 gr.

Typescript of the Foreword to The Complete Works of Kate Chopin

[c. 1969]. Wilson's four-page typescript, with his holograph corrections. Signed by Wilson and with his note at the top: "Please send me a proof of this. Edmund Wilson/ Wellfleet, Mass." We have no way of knowing whether Wilson got his proof: the manuscript differs from the final text by several words. The Complete Works of Kate Chopin, edited by Per Seyersted, was first published by the Louisiana State University Press in 1969; it was reprinted in paperback in 2006 and a first printing of the 2006 edition is included here. This was the volume that completed the resurrection of Kate Chopin's literary reputation, from that of being an obscure and largely forgotten regional writer to being one of the important American authors of the 1890s, a proto-feminist and a tragic figure. The inclusion of an introductory assessment of her work by Seyersted and of a foreword by no less a figure than Wilson -- probably the preeminent American man of letters at the time -- seemed designed to put the critical weight of the literary establishment behind this re-evaluation of her writings. Wilson reports in these pages that prior to this work, he had difficulty finding Chopin's stories to read, and in order to read her first novel, At Fault, he had to go to the microfilm at the Library of Congress. The typescript is folded once and has staple removal holes at the upper left corner; the top page is evenly sunned; near fine. A laudatory manuscript about one major American author by another.

The authorized edition of the pack wasn't issued until 1995. Toledano A113c, speculating that these were produced in 1969. .

The Brown Wasps: A Collection of Three Essays in Autobiography

The Perishable Press Limited, Mount Horeb 1969 - First edition. Illustrated by Jack Beal. Bound by Douglas Cockerell and Son using three different marbled papers. Tiny bump to one corner, still easily fine in marbled papercovered boards. Colophon states that there were 200 copies on Charter Oak paper, and fifty-six copies on Shadwell, although a laid in printed statement from the publisher asserts that there were only 185 copies on Charter Oak. This appears to be one of the fifty-six on Shadwell. One of the AIGA's 50 best designed books of the year. Easily Eiseley's scarcest book. See this book in 3D on our site.         Neutron Star

Macdonald London 1969 - First British and World First hardcover edition, and an extremely rare book indeed. This is the first collection of his "Known Space" stories. The title story won the 1967 Hugo Award. Unclipped protected jacket, and very rare thus. Most hardcover copies disappeared into libraries with the subsequent abuses of stamps and inserts. This one obviously never found itself anywhere near a library, and got itself into the hands of someone who cared because it is in better shape than any copy I have seen. Clean and tight text block, binding a little sunned at the top edge, but no bent corners to the binding. No inscriptions, no turned down corners. Jacket is brilliant too. A stunning collection of truly great SF stories. Niven's second book, and I believe this was its only hardcover issue. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Napoli Nobilissima. Rivista di topografia ed arte napoletana

Arturo Berisio Editore 1969-1970 Napoli Nobilissima. Rivista di topografia ed arte napoletana. Presentazione di Gino Doria. Napoli, Arturo Berisio Editore, 1969 - 1970. 18 volumi in folio di circa 200 pp. ciascuno. Legatura in mezza pelle, dorsi a cordoni con titolo e fregi in oro. Cerniere indebolite.

        Door Into The Dark

Oxford University Press, New York 1969 - First American edition of the author's second book. Octavo, original black cloth. Signed by the author on the title page. Fine in a near fine price-clipped dust jacket with two closed tear to the front panel. A very sharp copy. Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney's Door Into the Dark focuses on his native Ireland, and especially the rural people, and their work. "Heaney has the gift of finding a new and consummate phrase to evoke physical qualities, and when these take on symbolic resonance the result is superb. . . . [This] collection as a whole is a splendid achievement" (The Guardian). [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

STILL LIFE WITH RASPBERRY. Or the bumper book of Steadman.

Rapp & Whiting. London. 1969 - FIRST EDITION. LIMITED EDITION. (10.2 x 11.2 inches). One of only 50 numbered copies, signed, with extra title, and portrait of Harold Macmillan, all in black ink on the half title page, by Steadman. The page has the books printed title beneath which Steadman has written, " or Decayed Decade. Ralph Steadman. June '69.", beneath this he has drawn a portrait of a decaying Macmillan and numbered this copy "26/50". A very good copy in the publishers brown cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. Illustrated endpapers printed in brown on white paper. In the original colour illustrated dustwrapper, designed by Steadman. The price (63s) still intact on the inner front flap. One small (about 1 inch) closed tear, without loss, to the top edge has been neatly repaired with archive tape to the rear. Overall a very good copy of Steadman's biting satire of the 1960's including the wonderful images of the Beatles as Goya style Bats, Francis Bacon's Christmas party and his own redrawing of several of William Hogarth's most famous works.
