Buzz Aldrin's gold plated sun visor reflects the Lunar Module reflected in his gold-plated visor, Apollo 11.

20 July 1969 - Large-format vintage chromogenic print, 20.2 x 25.3 cm, on "A Kodak", [NASA negative number AS11-40-5903]. The most iconic picture taken on the Apollo 11 Mission. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, lunar module pilot, stands in a crater as Neil Armstrong takes his photograph using a camera strapped to his chest. We see not only Apollo 11 reflected in Aldrin's visor, but also Neil Armstrong himself. This makes this photograph especially interesting - Neil Armstrong took all the photos thus Aldrin is invariably the subject, not Armstrong, the mission commander and the first man to step onto the moon. "Apollo 11 on the Moon - Astronaut Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., lunarmodule pilot, walks on the surface of the Moon near the leg of the Lunar Module during the Apollo 11 extravehicular activity. Astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, commander, took this photograph with a 70 mm lunar surface camera" (Text on the reverse).

The White Stones [doubly inscribed by the poet]

Lincoln: Grosseteste Press, 1969 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. pp 96 [2] The limited first edition of Jeremy Prynne's fifth volume of verse which is twice inscribed by the author to one of his closest friends. The first inscription in Prynne's faintly calligraphic hand appears on the half title: 'For Tony & Nicole back from the wilds with love Jeremy'. Tony is the novelist Anthony Ward who was a Cambridge contemporary and fellow member of the Prospect group. Ward inherited the editorship of Prospect Magazine from Elaine Feinstein and handed it on to Prynne himself. The poet has added a secondary inscription to the dedication page below the printed dedication 'for Sue' where he has written: '& for Anthony Ward to be read by chance', making this in effect a secondary dedication copy. (Ward had published his own 'May Day: A Letter for Jeremy Prynne' in the The English Intelligencer in 1967) This is number 44 of 477 copies of this volume (numbered in Prynne's hand) which was printed by the Grosseteste Press. There is some old staining to the rear cover of the book, possibly caused by damp. Otherwise about very good if slightly cocked. Please contact Christian White at Modernfirsteditions if you would like more information about this book..

(Sonja Henie and Josephine Baker are mentioned in the book, with Henie's last name misspelled "Hennie".) Miguel Angel Asturias won the 1967 Nobel Prize in Literature "for his vivid literary achievement, deep-rooted in the national traits and traditions of Indian peoples of Latin America", and Pablo Neruda won the 1971 Nobel Prize in Literature for "a poetry that with the action of an elemental force brings alive a continent's destiny and dreams". [Noted Hungarian American Film Director Michael Curtiz directed The Sea Wolf (1941), Casablanca (1942), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), Life With Father (1947), White Christmas (1954), King Creole (1958) and many other films.] The book was born of a trip through Hungary by the Nerudas and the Asturiases who were first inspired to write it upon seeing and enjoying dinner on the couples' first night in Hungary. Neruda thought that the food deserved a Poem and Asturias an Essay. The idea for the book evolved as they spent several weeks together traveling through Hungary and the Preface was provided by Hungarian Author Iván Boldizsár who, in the company of the Nerudas and Asturiases, enjoyed many of the meals that inspired the book. As Asturias placed his inscription in Paris, the prior owner presumably obtained the other signatures in that food capital as well. A notable book co-written by two winners of the Nobel Prize in Literature with the signatures of the authors to the half-title, also signed by JOSEPHINE BAKER, RUGGIERO RICCI, KERTESZ MIHALY / MICHAEL CURTIZ, AUGUSTE PICCARD, SONJA HENIE, DANIELLE DARRIEUX, FERENC MOLNAR, J. R. CAPABLANCA and others, and RARE INDEED.

Brian Flanagan For Sheriff Watch Him Run

N.p. [Chicago: 1969]. Brian Flanagan (b. 1946) was a member of both SDS and the Weathermen, and directly connected to the fatal Greenwich Village apartment explosion in which three Weathermen were killed while preparing for a bomb attack on Fort Dix (Flanagan had reputedly left the apartment briefly for more supplies). This extremely rare poster promotes Flanagan's parodic write-in campaign for Mayor of Chicago during the Days of Rage. Following a fateful run-in with City Attorney Richard Elrod on the streets of Chicago, in which Elrod was left with a broken neck and partial paralysis, Flanagan was tried for attempted murder and inciting mayhem. He was eventually acquitted on all charges, but the case became a cause celebre for the Weathermen and other radical left groups. An extremely ephemeral piece, likely produced in tiny quantities and posted even less. Original silk-screened poster in three colors, 23" x 29". Browned at margins, but image area bright and clean. Archivally hinged to acid-free backing, in gallery frame.
