Self-Published, Los Angeles. 1966 (1970). - One continuous accordion-fold page composed of glued paper segments extending to 296 ½" in length housed in a white paper and silver Mylar-over-cardboard slipcase. "Every Building on the Sunset Strip" is Ed Ruscha's innovative 1966 photographic study that pictures sequentially each architectural facade on both the North and South sides of the fabled Sunset Strip from 8101 - the still extant Jaguar dealership - to 9156 - the late, great Schwab's Pharmacy. Pandora's Box lives! An internally bright, handsome example of the 1970 second printing (entry B4 in Siri Engberg's "Edward Ruscha: Editions 1959-1999", and whose 1966 edition is cited on pages 142-143 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume I", pages 198-199 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", and pages 182-185 of "The Book of 101 Books") limited to five thousand unnumbered copies showing a tiny crimp at the base of the spine along with soiling and a soft crease along the spine of the external wrappers. There is some trivial soiling and minor chipping to the white paper covering along the top and bottom edges of the slipcase accompanied by short separating tears at the corners of the aperture. The silver mylar overlay of the slipcase is still glossy. It has been priced accordingly.       n.p., N.P. 1966 - framed painting (34 by 28 inches). A framed painting depicting a guard at the fortress and monastic community at Qumran. Shraga Weil (1918-2009) was an Israeli artist. Born in Prague in 1918, he studied at the National School of Arts there. He served in the Hungarian resistance to the Nazis during World War II. After the war, he joined the exodus to Israel. He received training in monumental and graphic techniques at the Academy of Arts in Paris in 1953. He worked as a designer and illustrator of books during the 1950s, during which time he was illustrator of The Dead Sea Scrolls (New York: Limited Editions Club, 1966). This work was included as an illustration in that book. In the 1960s and 1970s, he created several architectural designs, including the copper doors for the main entrance of the Knesset building and the residence of the President of Israel in Jerusalem. (source: Knesset website and Shraga Weil website). Qumran was the location of an ancient Jewish fortress and Essene monastic community where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, beginning in 1947.

First Edition. 8vo. Cloth in Printed Dust Jacket. Architecture Monograph. Near Fine/Fine. 224pp, profusely illustrated in color b&w. "Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture" is the 1966 treatise published as the first of "The Museum of Modern Art Papers on Architecture".         Big As Life [Signed]

New York: Simon & Schuster, 1966. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine-/Fine. First Printing of Doctorow's second novel and scarcest book, never reprinted and later orphaned by the author (his web site makes no mention of this title). 8vo: (6),218pp. Publisher's crimson cloth, spine stamped in gilt, top edge stained crimson, cream-colored typographic jacket printed in red, green, and black and priced $4.95. Signed by Doctorow on title page. About Fine (light soiling to spine and upper cover), square, tight and bright; Fine jacket, quite striking. "[T]wo giant humanoids from another time continuum appear in New York Harbor and, while they pose no immediate threat because of their incredible slowness, the city panics, the social order collapses and a newly formed government agency uses the crisis in ways that hint at totalitarianism. Though of stylistic interest for its vivid evocation of the different language registers of the characters, the novel is weakly structured and its various strands never quite merge into a coherent vision." (Literary Encyclopedia) N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves.         Tragedy and Hope: A History of the World in Our Time

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1966. First Edition. Hardcover. Like New. First edition. (All first printing points present: stated "First Printing" on copyright page, no mention of later publisher Angriff Press, full page count, does not state "First published in 1966 by" on title page.) 1348pp. Fine in Fine dust jacket, absolutely unfaded with very light shelf wear. Clean, bright pages. A superb copy, easily the best we've ever seen.Professor Carroll Quigley's magnum opus, a world history of power with a focus on the Anglo-American elite. In many ways Quigley was a complex bundle of contradictions: a conservative defender of Western civiliation who opposed the Vietnam War and was Bill Clinton's mentor at Georgetown. During the early cold war he was a true Washington insider who worked as a consultant for the Defense Department, the Navy, and other government entities, but his work is most often referenced by perennial outsiders like the John Birch Society and conspiracy researchers like the late Jim Marrs.
