        [The Time Quintet:] A Wrinkle in Time;

      New York: Ariel Books, Farrar, Straus and Cudahy,/Farrar, Straus & Giroux,, 1962, 1973, 1978, 1986, 1989. A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Many Waters, An Acceptable Time. Five works, octavo. Original cloth, with the dust jackets. Wrinkle in very good condition, with rubbing to extremities and a faded spine panel, otherwise internally fresh, with the jacket chipped at the ends and corners with two closed tears to bottom of front panel and a few minor marks, Swiftly Tilting Planet with some small chips to the edges of the jacket. The other titles in excellent condition. First editions, first impression, inscribed and signed set, of the complete Time Quintet. A Wrinkle in Time, with a signed slip laid in, in the second state jacket (Newberry Prize sticker residue to front panel), together with signed or inscribed first impressions of the four sequential Time Quintet titles (an assembled set, with inscriptions to different recipients). A Wrinkle In Time is an important and classic children's fantasy work by Madeline L'Engle (1918-2007), originally aimed at young female readers but with major crossover appeal. Upon publication, it won numerous awards, including the 1963 Newbery Medal, the Sequoyah Book Award, and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award, as well as being a runner-up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. Having sold more than 10 million copies worldwide, L'Engle's novel has also seen several adaptations, including a film, a play, an opera, and a graphic novel. A Wrinkle in Time is particularly notable for being an early Sci-Fi novel with a female author and a female protagonist. The first impression is very scarce in commerce, with only 6 copies recorded at auction.

        Lot of More Than 40 little magazines from the Mimeograph Revolution

      Various, Various. Offered as a lot, and including periodicals from the US, Canada, and England. A complete list below. Additional shipping charges may be required due to weight. Little Magazine / Mimeograph Revolution Lot 1. Ellingham, Lew and Stan Persky, eds. M #1. San Francisco: M, [1962]. First edition. 4to, mimeographed from typescript and stab-stapled. First issue of the little magazine published from Gino & Carlo's Bar, where, submissions could be dropped off. Only two were published. The magazine bears some similarities with Open Space and J, and share many of the same contributors - which here are George Stanley, Lewis Ellingham, Stan Persky, Gail Chugg, Bob Conner, Robin Blaser, Jim Alexander, Larry Fagin, Helen Adam, Ebbe Borregaard, John Allen Ryan, Jack Moore, Wm. McNeill, Jim Herndon, David Melville, and Dale Landers. An elusive little magazine of the San Francisco Renaissance. Covers soiled and creased, a bit crumpled, about very good only but complete. [23710] 2. Wagnon, Drew and Gino Clays, eds. Wild Dog #15. San Francisco: Wild Dog, 1965. First edition. 4to, mimeographed and stab-stapled into illustrated covers (by Helene Dorn). A great issue of this longrunning little magazine, with contributions from Stan Brakhage (a letter), scarce work by the doomed and talented Christopher Perret, Thomas Clark, Bettyweiss Olson, Ron Loewinsohn, Elaine Feinstein et al. Small ink number to lower margin of cover, and ownership signature of a poet, not affecting illustration, some minor toning else near fine. 3. [MacAdams, Lewis and Gregory Irons, Bill Presson?]. Nightstick. np: none, nd. 4to, mimeographed, side-stapled wraps. [18 pp.] printed on rectos only, with illustrations. Short poems mimeographed from holograph or appropriated artwork, parodying pulp or comic book-writings of police misadventure. The text is completely unattributed, but three holograph signatures at the end, which read MacAdams, Irons, and Bill, perhaps give a clue - the authorship is attributed and is our suspicion only. A ludic pop surrealist masterpiece from the mimeograph revolution. Near fine with light toning to margins. [24285] 4. [Fagin, Larry et al]. The Portable Leon. New York: "Viking Press", nd. 4to., mimeographed sheets stab-stapled covers. This copy of the work from the Leon collective is signed by Larry Fagin at the title page, and scarce thus. Includes a poem written for Leon Crabtree. Near fine with some very faint indenting around staples. Paperback. [18256] 5. Messerli, Douglas, editor. La-Bas: A Newsletter of Poetry & Poetics, No. 8. College Park, MD: La-Bas, 1977. First edition. 4to. Mimeographed sheets side-stapled in wraps. In envelope addressed to Gary Snyder at Nevada City. This issue of the important little magazine features work by Daisy Aldan, Barry Alpert, David Gitin, Ted Greenwald, Opal nations et al., as well as Ron Silliman's essay "Writing the Line," on the work of Ray DiPalma. Near fine save for some wear to cover, in the form of two quart-inch square patches of indentations, with tiny specks of rust. Clay & Phillips, pp. 252-3. [21087] 6. Wakoski, Diane & Jerry Bloedow, eds. Hardware Poets Occasional #3 June 64. New York: Hardware Poets Playhouse, 1964. 8vo, 31 pp, mimeographed and saddle-stapled. Association copy, addressed and mailed to fellow poet Jackson Mac Low. This issue with contributions by the editors and Ruth Krauss, Theodore Enslin, Kathleen Frazer, Margaret Randall, David Antin, Harry Lewis, Allen Katzman, Rochelle Owens, George Economou, & Dorothy Olin. Also features a note on the future move. Folded once, some soiling, first few leaves with a small tear to fore edge from being roughly opened leading to loss of the fore edge of the first several leaves, not affecting text. Good. [16956] 7. Corbett, William & William Harwood, Lewis Warsh, eds. Boston Eagle #2. Boston: Boston Eagle, 1974. First edition. 4to., mimeographed from typescript on rectos only, and stab-stapled into illustrated card covers (by Joe Brainard). Second issue of the little mag, which ran to three issues. Excellent issue that includs work by John Wieners, Fanny Hose, Lewis Warsh, Lee Harwood, Michael Palmer, Larry Fagin, Bill Berkson et al. A solid very good copy with some faint toning and some light indenting and rust marks around staples from being stacked with other mimeos. Paperback. [25712] 8. Corbett, William & William Harwood, Lewis Warsh, eds. Boston Eagle #3. Boston: Boston Eagle, 1974. First edition. 4to., mimeographed from typescript on rectos only, and stab-stapled in card covers. Tacoma: Salted Feathers, 1966. 4to, mimeographed, stab-stapled into an unprinted orange cover sheet with holograph poem to cover, as with two other examples of this issue we have handled. One of 500 copies issued. Sixth issue of this little magazing of the Mimeograph Revolution out of Washington State. With an interview with John Logan, and Howard McCord's essay on Michael Frankl, The Death Dream, and contributions by Keith Abbott, Charles Newland, Joel Jensen, Padraig O'Broin, Jane Boe, Arthur Vogelsang, Charles Wyatt, Gary Funk, David Lane, Ben L. Hiatt, Larry Eigner, R. T. Wilkinson, James Hazard, Phil Weidman, Joyce Ann Hinson, and Tracy Thompson. Very good with some toning to pages and some creasing to wraps. [25545] 10. First edition. 4to, mimeographed on rectos only and stab-stapled into illustrated card covers. Writers Forum Quarto Series No. 10. With illustrations throughout, and a cover by Brian McCollum. Page, Robert, ed. Penny Poem Sheet Nos. 1-4. Orono, Maine: Penny Poem Sheeta, 1965. First edition. 4to, each issue a single sheet printed on both recto and verso; spirit duplicated in yellow paper. The first four issues of this fugitive poetry newsletter out of Maine. The first issue prints poems by Page, Gus Bombard and Robert Marggraf; the second issue prints work by Theodore Enslin, Henry Braun, Carlos Reyes, and Nancy Jean Smith; the third with Nancy Jean Smith, Henry Braun, and Rombert M. Chute; and the fourth, a couple of excellent poems by Larry Eigner, H. Silverman, and Chute. Each issue folded twice for mailing; the ditto ink with expected fading, most noticeable at the first issue; creased, with a couple of short edge tears, about very good. Scarce, with OCLC locating copies only at Orono and SUNY. [23767] 13. Nolan, Pat, ed. The Living End Vol. 1 No. 2. Oakland, CA: The Living End, 1972. First edition. 4to, mimeographed and stab-stapled in photographically illustrated wraps. Rough Weather #1 [All Published]. Los Angeles: Rough Weather, 1951. First edition. 8vo. 29 [1] pp. Mimeographed, folded sheets side-stapled in printed wraps. Wraps detached, and chipped at extremities; fair. The first and only issue of this truly remarkable little magazine from Los Angeles. It features excellent work from some great poets, including William Stafford, ( the very early poem 'Storm Warning'), Harold Norse, Judson Crews, Paul Goodman, Scott Greer, Glen Coffield, Helen Curry, Will McFarland, Mason Jordan Mason, and Charlotte Marletto. [16428] 16. Macdonogh, Steve and Michael Gray. Cosmos. York, UK: Cosmos, 1970. First edition. 4to, mimeographed in various colors and stab-stapled in card covers illustrated by Nigel Wilson. The third or fourth issue of the British little magazine, which ran to four issues. A great issue, with contributions from Donald Gardner, Jack Micheline, Harold Norse, Pradip Choudhuri, Gerard Belart, John Keys, Boleslaw Taborski, Paul Kelly, Charles Plymell, Peter Finch, George Dowden, Jeff Nuttall, and N. W. Nix. Very good with a small crease throughout to lower tip and some foxing to covers. [24476] 17. Bakken, Dick and Lee Altman, eds. Salted Feathers #6. Tacoma: Salted Feathers, 1966. 4to, mimeographed, stab-stapled into an illustrated cover sheet with smaller title sheet stapled onto cover. One of 500 copies issued. Sixth issue of this little magazing of the Mimeograph Revolution out of Washington State, which was distinguished by some very unusual, and striking design choices - no other magazine of the era looked quite like Salted Feathers . This issue with work by the doomed and gifted young Christopher Perret, Howard McCord, Diane Wakoski, Maxim Rilski, Charles Wyatt, Joel Jensen, Amalia Guglielminetti, René Char (in French), Dora M. Pettinella, Gus Blaisdell, Susan Gorbea, James Hazard, William Walter Debolt, Duane W. McGinnis, Arthur Vogelsang, Joyce Ann Hinson, Keith Abbott, Padraig O'Broin, and William Pitt Root. Paper toned, as usual, else a clean, very good copy. [24616] 18. Pearson, Norman Holmes, ed. [Ezra Pound]. Spring Iron. Port Moody, Canada: Iron, nd. 4to. Side-stapled in card covers. Unnumbered issue of this little magazine; this issue is devoted to writing "committed in the province of British Columbia." Fascinating for the inclusion of the poem 'published Venice Corriere della Serra, January 3, 1971" by Ezra Pound; the poem is not in Gallup. Also includes work by Robin Blaser, Brian Fawcett, Alban Goulden, Neap Hoover, Ralph Maud, Susan McCaslin, Stan Persky, and Fred Wah. Near fine with a light crease and a narrow strip of fading to rear wrap only. [16450] 19. Harwood, Lee and Peter Riley. August August: Being Collection 6 and Tzarad 4. Brighton and Odense: Collection and Tzarad, 1969. First edition. 4to, 39 pp, mimeographed from typescript on rectos only and stab-stapled into card covers. Cover illustration and design by Shifrah Fam. A joint issue of two of the best European magazines of the Mimeograph Revolution. With work by Paul Selby, Chris Torrance, Paul Evans, Peter Ruppell, Peter Riley, Ted Kavanagh, Roy Clarek, and Lee Harwood. First edition. 4to. Mimeographed on blue paper and side-stapled into a white cover sheet illustrated after a drawing by Landau. The fourth installment of Erik Kiviat's artists' periodical, which ran to six issues; each issue was devoted to the poetryof a single author, accompanied by illustrations by a single artist. This is an association copy, addressed and mailed to George Bowering. Dampstain to left and top margin of front cover only, some minor handling creases; a beat good only copy. [16424] 21. [Friedman, Ed, ed.] Carter Ratcliff and Barrett Watten. Project Papers Vol. 1, No. 12. New York: Poetry Project at St. Mark's, 1987. First edition. 4to, [6] pp. offset printed and stapled once in the left hand corner. A single issue of the ephemeral periodical which was published in conjunction with, and for free distribution at Wednesday night readings in '87 and '88. This issue is devoted to Carter Ratcliff, with his poem "Magenta Hair" and Barrett Watten - an excerpt from The Word. Very good with some creasing and soiling to verso of final leaf. [23331] 22. Anonymous. Soup! n.p.: nd. Folio, saddle-stapled in wraps, mimeographed in red and black ink. A truly mystifying mimeo homage to Campbell's Soup, with lyrics to parodic songs on that theme ("Onward Campbell's Soupers," "The National Anathema, to the tune of 'O, Canada'," etc.) Back cover shows a comic strip, apparently related to Campbell's soup and the Canadian government, with a possible allusion to Alfred North Whitehead, printed on a found newspaper page bearing the date 1964. Good only, with yellowing, creasing, and a few small tears. [20700] 23. Hitchcock, George, ed. Kayak 4. Santa Cruz: Kayak Books, 1965. First edition. 8vo, 60 pp, saddle-stapled wraps. Early issue of the great and long-lived little magazine. This issue features contributions by W. S. Merwin, Margaret Atwood, Paul Blackburn, Luis Garcia et al. Old ownership signature to first page, a couple spots of foxing, but a bright, near fine copy. Paperback. [18580] 24. Hitchcock, George, ed. Kayak 37. Santa Cruz: Kayak, 1975. 8vo, 68 pages, saddle-stapled, illustrated wraps. This issue of the Kayak includes a sound poem by Luciano Ori, as well as work by Kenneth Rexroth, Wendell Berry, Albert Goldbarth, Howard McCord, Philip Booth and many others. Paper toned, and wraps lightly toned at margins, some minor indenting to rear wrap; very good. [24741] 25. Hitchcock, George, ed. Kayak 47. Santa Cruz: Kayak Books, 1978. First edition. 8vo, saddle-stapled wraps. With announcement slip for the publication of Hitchcock's Lessons in Alchemy laid in. Kayak was printed using a small printing press which, in its previous life had been used to print menus on a cruise ship, and one of the issues was anecdotally printed on cast-off military target paper. The variety of work and the incredible number of issues were united by a unified graphic approach; each issue included visual work, often in a surrealist vein, interspersed with found imagery by Hitchcock. The magazine was as defiantly political as its editor. Hitchcock attained notoriety for his inspired performance given after being summoned to San Francisco for a hearing before the House Un-American Activities Committee; when asked to state his profession, he stated "I am a gardener. I do underground work on plants." This issue includes illustrations throughout by Philip Kuznicki, and contributions by David Wagoner, William Everson, Eva Wald, Franz Wright, Ellen Gilchrist, George Jevremovic, Victor Di Suvero et al. Very good. Paperback. [25660] 26. Hitchcock, George, ed. Kayak 48. I do underground work on plants." This issue includes contributions by Michael McClure, Gustaf Sobin, Ernesto Trejo, Charles Baxter, Ellen Gilchrist, Robert Long et al. Very good. Paperback. Early issue of the innovative little mag devoted to experimental poetry, this issue with a stellar cast - Judson Crews, Larry Eigner, Paul Metcalf, Brian Swann, David Loberg et al. Miss Carson, with the fervor of an Ezekiel, is trying to save nature and mankind" (The New York Times). Silent Spring "became a runaway bestseller, with international reverberations It is well crafted, fearless and succinct Even if she had not inspired a generation of activists, Carson would prevail as one of the greatest nature writers in American letters" (Mattheissen, Time). Named by TIME Magazine as one of the 100 best and most influential non-fiction books since 1923 and by Modern Library as one of the 100 greatest non-fiction books of the twentieth century.       Vseslovianskoe izdatelstvo New York ; 1970 1962 - Two volumes (all published), octavo (23.5 x 16 cm). 288 pp., with 32pp. ill.; 432 pp., with 26 pp. ill; light traces of tape to inner margin of several pp. in vol 1. Publisher's cloth, colour of binding of vol 1 and 2 differs as published. One of the most important researches into this tragic episode of the post-war history; "Very rare, especially complete" (Savine). The work compiled by the Ataman of the Kuban Cossacks Naumenko (1883-1979) contains documented evidence of the forced repatriation to the USSR of the Cossacks and ethnic Russians and Ukrainians who were allies of Nazi Germany during the Second World War. The repatriations were agreed to in the Yalta Conference; Stalin claimed the repatriated people were Soviet citizens as of 1939, although many of them had left Russia before or soon after the end of the Russian Civil War, or had been born abroad. Most of those Cossacks and Russians fought the Allies in service to the Axis powers, yet the repatriations included non-combatant civilians as well. On 1 June 1945, the British placed 32,000 Cossacks (with women and children) into trains and delivered them to the Red Army for repatriation to the USSR;similar repatriations occurred that year in the American occupation zones in Austria and Germany. Most Cossacks were sent to the gulags in far northern Russia and in Siberia, and many died.
