        The Spy Who Loved Me

London: Jonathan Cape, 1962. London: Jonathan Cape,, 1962. Octavo. Original black boards, titles to spine in silver, dagger design to front board in silver and blind, red endpapers. With the illustrated dust jacket. Spine ends lightly bumped, a small light dampstain to bottom edge. An excellent copy in jacket with slightly rubbed rear cover, a couple of light dampstains to front cover, lightly nicked and chipped extremities. First edition, first impression. The tenth James Bond book. In many ways this is one of the most ambitious of Fleming's Bond books. It purports to be the first hand testimony of a 23 year old Canadian woman with whom Bond has an ill-fated affair. In time-honoured literary tradition Fleming claims to have been sent Michel's manuscript account of which he is merely the editor. Michel therefore gets a spurious credit as co-author on the title page. This novel is the only Bond book to be written in the first person.

        Typed letter signed.

[London], 21. VI. 1962.. 4to. 1 p.. To Terry Wing, replying to a fan letter from a twelve-year-old schoolboy and answering some of his questions ("[...] you are right in thinking that Dr. No is the sequel to From Russia With Love [...]"), confirming that he does indeed do a lot of travelling ("[...] one can't really write truthfully about places one hasn't seen for one's self, having been in Naval Intelligence during the war, I do know something about spies and spying [...]"), telling him about his car ("[...] I am at present driving a Ford Thunderbird which I have had for two years, but I am in the process of changing to a very new model, the Studebaker Avanti, with a top speed of 174 and acceleration from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds [...]"), complimenting him on his pluck ("[...] So far as your future is concerned I shouldn't bother to try and emulate James Bond. You are already an adventurous chap with plenty of guts or you wouldn't be writing to authors out of the blue at the age of 12 and a bit! [...]"), and "as a prize for your enterprise (bad English that!)" sending a signed copy of his "last but one book". - A delightfully revealing letter in which Ian Fleming compliments a schoolboy admirer and gives him details of his own glamorous lifestyle of travel and fast cars, letting slip the admission that he does "know something about spies and spying". The first of the Bond films, Dr No, was to appear that autumn. - Engraved heading, light coffee-staining on the reverse just showing through, but overall in sound and attractive condition.

        Where witchcraft lives.

The Aquarian Press, London 1962 - Small 8vo. pp. xi, [1], 7-112. Bound in publisher’s pale gray-green cloth. The binding is clean and tight with only the most miniscule signs of bumping to the upper corner tip of the front board. The dust jacket is price clipped on the inner flap and shows spots of wear and rubbing to the extremities. The head cap of the jacket spine is chipped (15 x 13 mm). The rear jacket displays some mild soiling and a couple of small tears (sealed). An ink stamp from the U.S. distributer Wehman Bros. ("Wehman Bros. Publishers 159 Main Street Hackensack, N.J") is present in the lower margin of the title page. Interior pages are generally clean. Pages 92-93 contain a small, light manufacturing smudge. Doreen Valiente (1922-1999), often called "the mother of modern witchcraft" was a founding figure in the contemporary Wicca movement. During the 1950’s, while she served as high priestess in Gerald Gardner’s Brickett Wood coven, Valiente re-worked much of Gardner’s "Book of Shadows" liturgy into forms still used by many in the Craft today. Later Valiente led a successful fight in Britain against proposed anti-witchcraft legislation. Valiente’s first book, "Where Witches Live," contains her own primary research into the folklore, witch traditions and witch trials of county Sussex. Valiente also included modern witchcraft practices. According to Ronald Hutton: "the greatest value of her first book to a historian lies in its portrayal of witch ceremonies in the very early 1960’s" [Ronald Hutton, The triumph of the moon. Oxford, 1999, p. 310]. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Golem. Polemik für 9 Vokalsolisten. Partitur.

O.O.,Vlg.u.J. (ca. 1962).. Folio. Bankverbindung in Deutschland vorhanden.
