        JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

      - New York: Knopf, 1961. First edition. A fine copy bound in red cloth with gilt spine lettering and in immaculate condition in a near-fine dustwrapper which is price-clipped and has a slight smudge on the front panel. The red background on the spine is bright with no fading and the book conforms to first-printing points--"bound by H. Wolfe" on the colophon, no ISBN on the rear panel, lovely and illustrations by Nancy Ekholm Burkert. The book was made into a highly-successful British-American musical fantasy film directed by Henry Selick. In this classic of children's literature, Dahl writes of a young English orphan boy whose parents are killed by a ghostly rhinocerus. James gains entry into a gigantic, magical peach and experiences a wild and surreal adventure with seven magically-altered garden bugs as they set off on a journey to escape from James' two mean and cruel aunts.         Mickey Mantle signs a classic M & M dashing duo vintage glossy photograph!

n.p., n.d.. 8" x 9.75". "Signed vintage glossy photo, 8"" x 9.75"" . Classic photo of two Yankee legends known as the M & M duo, the photo depicts the two Yankee legends, Roger Marris and Mickey Mantle facing each other while resting their bats on their shoulders. Boldly signed by Mickey Mantle ""Mickey Mantle"" in blue felt tip. Accompanied with an LOA by James Spence, LLC with their associated authentication sticker located on the photo lower left. Slight rubbing to very outer edge, else near fineIt was during the 1961 season that Mantle and teammate Roger Maris, known as the M&M Boys, chased Babe Ruth's 1927 single-season home run record. Maris set the MLB record for home runs during the 1961 season with 61, breaking Babe Ruth's single-season record of 60 home runs in 1927. Meanwhile Mantle was arguably the greatest offensive threat of any center fielder in baseball history with an incredible lifetime stats of the highest career OPS of any center fielder and he had the highest stolen base percentage in history at the time of his retirement. In addition, compared to the four other center fielders on the all-century team, he had the lowest career rate of grounding into double plays (by far) and he had the highest World Series on-base percentage and World Series slugging percentage. He also had an excellent 0.984 fielding percentage when playing center field. Mantle was noted for his ability to hit for both average and power, especially tape measure home runs. He hit 536 MLB career home runs, batted .300 or more ten times, and is the career leader (tied with Jim Thome in walk-off home runs, with a combined thirteen, twelve in the regular season and one in the postseason.Mantle won the Triple Crown in 1956, leading the major leagues in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in (RBI); he later wrote a book about his best year in baseball. He was an All-Star for 16 seasons, playing in 16 of the 20 All-Star Games that were played.[ He was an American League MVP three times and a Gold Glove winner once. Mantle appeared in 12 World Series including 7 championships, and holds World Series records for the most home runs (18), RBIs (40), Extra-base hits (26), runs (42), walks (43), and total bases (123).Perfect for a Yankee fan or lover of baseball legends!         Pharmacopoea Leodiensis in qua describuntur medicamenta . in tres partes distributa. In prima simplicia omnia. In altera composita Galenica. In tertia chimica remedia.Liège, Everard Kints, 1741. 4to. With title-page in red and black with the woodcut bearing from the coat of arms of the city of Liege, the engraved arms of the dedicatee (the Bishop of Liège) facing the dedication. Contemporary tanned sheepskin, rebacked (gold-tooled spine).

      - Daems & Vandewiele, pp. 169-170 (7 copies); A. Guislain, "A propos de la pharmacopée Liégeoise", Bulletin Cercle Benelux d’Histoire de la Pharmacie XXVII (October 1961), pp. 1-5; UniCat (6 copies); WorldCat (5 copies). Rare first and only early edition of the only pharmacopoeia for the city of Liège in the Austrian Southern Low Countries (now Belgium), largely independent of its predecessors in other cities whether in the Low Countries or elsewhere. Some of the medicinal recipes appear to be local in origin. It may occasionally borrow from the 1727 Dispensatorium pharmaceuticum Austriaco-Viennense, which was officially made mandatory for use in the Austrian Low Countries in 1737, but it copies neither the structure nor the recipes. The text (in Latin, though some of the preliminaries are in French) is divided into three parts: the first provides a classified list of nearly a thousand simples; the second provides recipes for hundreds of compound medicines; and the third provides recipes for about a hundred chemical medicines. Some of the compound medicines are unusually complex. Also unusual are the appendix giving prices of medicines and the list of 87 doctors, pharmacologists and surgeons enrolled in the Liège Collegium Medicinae. With an owner's inscription of the Liège pharmacist H.N. Fraigneux and 4 full pages of 18th and 19th-century manuscript notes in the endpapers. Slight browning and occasional foxing, but otherwise in good condition and with generous margins. The binding is structurally sound with the new parts in good condition and with the old endpapers preserved, except for the front paste-down, which has been replaced. The only Liège pharmacopoeia: an essential source for the medical history of Liège, Maastricht and their surroundings.
