Signed "Picasso" on the reverse of a colorful circular paper originally folded and stapled to form a conical hat, 12" in diameter, c. 1960, depicting three stylized flamenco dancers with the legend: "Souvenir de la CORRIDA" ("Souvenir of the BULLFIGHT"). Vendors sold these hats at the entrance to the bullring to provide relief from the sun. Partial fold separation repaired with staples, creases and some moderate soiling.         Moments Preserved (Signed First Edition)

New York: Simon and Schuster, 1960. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. This is a signed first edition, first printing of the Irving Penn\'s first and most famous photobook \"Moments Preserved\" published by Simon and Schuster, New York, in 1960. Subtitled \"Eight Essays in Photographs and Words\", \"Moments Preserved\" gathers Penn\'s vast variety of enthusiasm - mostly for the vast variety of humanity - and slots them into categories by nationality: the French, the Italians, the English, and the Americans. Though most of these sections include fashion studies, still lifes, and the impressionist scents, they have in common the photographer\'s deftly understated portraits, printed here in subtlest gravure. Penn reinvented the classic daylight studio portrait for a more casual time, undercutting its formality but heightening its potential as a revealing performance. (Vince Aletti from \"The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century\") Measuring approximately 13.5 x 10 inches, the book is bound in beige cloth covered boards with a printed dust jacket protected by a mylar cover and is housed in a photographically illustrated laminated cardboard slipcase. The book is in FINE condition with a neat gift inscription. The dust jacket is in FINE condition with very superficial soiling. The slip case is in Near Fine condition with some surface and corner wear as well as some minor soiling to the back to the slipcase. Overall, this is an exceptional signed copy of a classic photobook that is very difficult to find in this condition. The book has been boldly signed and dated by Irving Penn on the first free endpaper and is inscribed to the famous art dealer, Mark Kelman. Cited in \"The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century\" by Andrew Roth.

H.A. Lorentz et la coopération international. The Hague, Martinus Nijhoff, 1928. With a photographic frontispiece portrait of Lorentz, printed from a halftone block. Original publisher's grey printed wrappers.

Not in Boni, Russ & Laurence, Bibliographical checklist ... Albert Einstein, 1960; for Lorentz: DSB VIII, pp. 487-499. An offprint of an overlooked article by Albert Einstein about his colleague, friend and fellow Nobel Prize laureate in physics, Hendrik Antoon Lorentz (1835-1928) in Leiden, written in French. Einstein wrote it before Lorentz died but added a 10-line postscript noting and commenting on Lorentz's death, which occurred on 4 February. The article originally appeared in Grotius: annuaire international for 1928 and discusses Lorentz's contributions to international reconciliation after World War I. Lorentz's widow gave a copy of the offprint to the British physicist Owen Richardson, perhaps for the occasion of his receipt of the Nobel Prize for physics in 1928, but perhaps due to her own death in 1931 the offprints seem to have hardly been distributed. We found no copy of the offprint in libraries worldwide. In fine condition. Einstein's appreciation of H.A. Lorentz, overlooked by Einstein bibliographers.

Peter was a 1959 graduate of Cornell University. The book "Japanese Prints", by James Michener, has beautiful prints tipped into it. In James Michener the Japanese print has found its ideal commentator. Combining the finished literary style of an outstanding novelist with a mature knowledge of his subject, he is able to bring this great art form to life in words, directly communicating his understanding, love, and enthusiasm rather than obscuring his subject in pedantry.

        The Caretaker.

Methuen & Co., London 1960 - First edition. Octavo, original wrappers. Signed by Harold Pinter on the title page. Very good in wrappers as issued. Uncommon signed. It was with The Caretaker that Harold Pinter had his first major success, and its production history since it was first performed in 1960 has established the work as a landmark in twentieth-century drama. The obsessive caretaker, Davies, whose papers are in Sidcup, is a classic comic creation, and his uneasy relationship with the enigmatic Aston and Mick established the author's individuality with an international audience.         Jazzlife: The Collector\'s Edition (Signed Limited Edition with 4 Signed Prints)

Germany: Taschen, 2009. Limited Edition . Hardcover. As New. This is a remarkable collectors edition of Jazzlife published by Taschen, Germany in 2009 that had a limitation of 1000 signed and numbered copies. Weighing in at 35 pounds and measuring approximately 20 x 24 inches, this is a stunning production. By way of background, in 1960, photographer William Claxton and noted German musicologist Joachim Berendt traveled the United States hot on the trail of jazz music. The result of their collaboration was an amazing collection of photographs and recordings of legendary artists as well as unknown street musicians. The book Jazzlife, the original fruit of their labors, is a photobook classic that is highly treasured among jazz and photography fans. In 2003, Taschen began reassembling this important collection of material - along with many never-before-seen color images from those trips. They are brought together in this updated volume, which includes a foreword by Claxton tracing his travels with Berendt and his love affair with jazz music in general. Utilizing the benefits of today\'s digital technology, a restored audio CD from Joachim Berendt\'s original recordings has been produced and is included in this package.         Distinctive bottle of Haig & Haig Pinch scotch, owned by President John F. Kennedy, with intact contents in a Christmas gift box. Possibly unique as a Presidential artifact and a most desirable relic of Camelot

n.p., [1960-1961] Sealed bottle of Haig & Haig Pinch blended scotch whiskey, given to Mrs. & Mrs. John F. Kennedy as an inaugural gift after he won the 1960 Presidential election. The scotch is in the original Christmas box, and shows some toning wear. The gift was stored in the home of Capitol police officer and Kennedy chauffeur/handyman James H. Boyer, Sr. after the Kennedys moved from their home in Georgetown to the White House in the Fall and Winter of 1960-1961. The lot is accompanied by a cardboard box label from "Steuben Glass Corning Glass Center", presumably the senders of the gift, and addressed to "Honorable John F. Kennedy".Also included and suitable for a final display are two receipts for alcohol, purchased by Mrs. John F. Kennedy, one while the Senator was campaigning for the Presidency, and a later one while President at "The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue" . The receipts were part of an important archive of Kennedy expenditures and together with the Scotch provide a museum quality gro

        To Kill A Mockingbird

Philadelphia: Lippincott, 1960. First. hardcover. near fine/poor. 8vo, green cloth backing brown boards, (with a touch of fading to the top and bottom of the spine) d.w. Philadelphia: Lippincott, (1960). First Edition. A very good copy of this important & elusive book of which only 5000 copies were printed. The first issue dust jacket, with the Capote blurb in green, the Jonathan Daniels quote on the back flap, Capote's photograph of the author on the rear cover, and bears the original price of $3.95. It is quite worn at the folds & edges, the spine is missing an inch at the bottom, and the front cover is wrinkled in the lower quarter with some loss of color. However this is a better than usual copy of Lee's first and only novel, which won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize.

        The Subterraneans

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer 1960. () [8],[1]. Very good. Complete set of eight lobby cards and one sheet. Lobby cards measure 11 X 14 inches. One sheet measure 27 X 41 inches, has minor edge tears and a few holes with professional restoration. Lobby cards have very small amount of colour offsetting, mostly to verso, else clean and bright. Uncommon to get lobby cards and poster together in reasonable condition. Lobby cards and one sheet made to promote the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's novel. Despite being produced by a major movie studio and starring famous actors Leslie Caron and George Peppard the movie was a financial flop. Allen Ginsberg derided it for its two dimensional characters and shallow portrayal of the beat culture and this can be seen in the subtitles of the lobby cards, such as "When the party's over and she's alone, the wild Bohemian searches her soul for the answers" and "The new Bohemians took what they liked, even if it was another fellow's girl."..

        Gangs and Counter-gangs

Barrie and Rockliff, 1960-01-01. Hardcover. Very Good. FIRST EDITION. London: Barrie and Rockliff, 1960. 211 pp. First edition, first printing. (Stated "First published 1960 by Barrie and Rockliff" on copyright page.) Near fine condition hardcover in Good+ dust jacket. Clean pages. Not ex-library! Foxing to top edge, light shelf wear. Jacket spine panel faded, missing little chips at head and tail, small tear and crease to top of front panel, price intact. Quite scarce in the original jacket.Quite an influential book for only going through a single British printing over fifty years ago. Major (now General) Frank Kitson's account of counterinsurgency campaigns in Kenya is a classic of modern military strategy. It's often popularly referenced for its advocacy of false flag tactics: counter- and pseudo- gangs, etc.
