H.A. Lorentz et la coopération international. The Hague, Martinus Nijhoff, 1928. With a photographic frontispiece portrait of Lorentz, printed from a halftone block. Original publisher's grey printed wrappers.

Not in Boni, Russ & Laurence, Bibliographical checklist ... Albert Einstein, 1960; for Lorentz: DSB VIII, pp. 487-499. An offprint of an overlooked article by Albert Einstein about his colleague, friend and fellow Nobel Prize laureate in physics, Hendrik Antoon Lorentz (1835-1928) in Leiden, written in French. Einstein wrote it before Lorentz died but added a 10-line postscript noting and commenting on Lorentz's death, which occurred on 4 February. The article originally appeared in Grotius: annuaire international for 1928 and discusses Lorentz's contributions to international reconciliation after World War I. Lorentz's widow gave a copy of the offprint to the British physicist Owen Richardson, perhaps for the occasion of his receipt of the Nobel Prize for physics in 1928, but perhaps due to her own death in 1931 the offprints seem to have hardly been distributed. We found no copy of the offprint in libraries worldwide. In fine condition. Einstein's appreciation of H.A. Lorentz, overlooked by Einstein bibliographers.

Signed book "Peter Yarrow" a book by James Michener titled "Japanese Prints", 1960 printing, Japan, 287 pages, hard cover, dust jacket, 9.25" x 12.5". Great association copy with warm 1963 inscription from Peter, Paul and Mary's Peter Yarrow to actor Theodore Bikel. The inscription reads: "May, '63 For Theo, In remembrance of 'Theo Bikel - he comes to Cornell - come & see Theo Bikel - ' and on your birthday Warmest regards, (signed) Peter Yarrow". Peter was a 1959 graduate of Cornell University. The book "Japanese Prints", by James Michener, has beautiful prints tipped into it. In James Michener the Japanese print has found its ideal commentator. Combining the finished literary style of an outstanding novelist with a mature knowledge of his subject, he is able to bring this great art form to life in words, directly communicating his understanding, love, and enthusiasm rather than obscuring his subject in pedantry.

Jazzlife: The Collector\'s Edition (Signed Limited Edition with 4 Signed Prints)

Germany: Taschen, 2009. Limited Edition . Hardcover. As New. This is a remarkable collectors edition of Jazzlife published by Taschen, Germany in 2009 that had a limitation of 1000 signed and numbered copies. Weighing in at 35 pounds and measuring approximately 20 x 24 inches, this is a stunning production. By way of background, in 1960, photographer William Claxton and noted German musicologist Joachim Berendt traveled the United States hot on the trail of jazz music. The result of their collaboration was an amazing collection of photographs and recordings of legendary artists as well as unknown street musicians. The book Jazzlife, the original fruit of their labors, is a photobook classic that is highly treasured among jazz and photography fans. In 2003, Taschen began reassembling this important collection of material - along with many never-before-seen color images from those trips. They are brought together in this updated volume, which includes a foreword by Claxton tracing his travels with Berendt and his love affair with jazz music in general. Utilizing the benefits of today\'s digital technology, a restored audio CD from Joachim Berendt\'s original recordings has been produced and is included in this package. Jazz fans will be delighted to be able to take a jazz-trip through time, both seeing and hearing the music as Claxton and Berendt originally experienced it. This title features photographs of Charlie Parker, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Muddy Waters, Gabor Szabo, Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, and many more. Also contained in the package are 4 signed and numbered ultrachrome prints that each measure 11.5 x 16 inches. The book, prints, and CD are housed in a cloth covered box. The condition of the collection is MINT and is still contained in the original publishers shipping carton.

Distinctive bottle of Haig & Haig Pinch scotch, owned by President John F. Kennedy, with intact contents in a Christmas gift box. Possibly unique as a Presidential artifact and a most desirable relic of Camelot

n.p., [1960-1961] Sealed bottle of Haig & Haig Pinch blended scotch whiskey, given to Mrs. & Mrs. John F. Kennedy as an inaugural gift after he won the 1960 Presidential election. The scotch is in the original Christmas box, and shows some toning wear. The gift was stored in the home of Capitol police officer and Kennedy chauffeur/handyman James H. Boyer, Sr. after the Kennedys moved from their home in Georgetown to the White House in the Fall and Winter of 1960-1961. The lot is accompanied by a cardboard box label from "Steuben Glass Corning Glass Center", presumably the senders of the gift, and addressed to "Honorable John F. Kennedy".Also included and suitable for a final display are two receipts for alcohol, purchased by Mrs. John F. Kennedy, one while the Senator was campaigning for the Presidency, and a later one while President at "The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue" . The receipts were part of an important archive of Kennedy expenditures and together with the Scotch provide a museum quality gro

        To Kill A Mockingbird

Philadelphia: Lippincott, (1960). First Edition. A very good copy of this important & elusive book of which only 5000 copies were printed. The first issue dust jacket, with the Capote blurb in green, the Jonathan Daniels quote on the back flap, Capote's photograph of the author on the rear cover, and bears the original price of $3.95.         The Subterraneans

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer 1960. () [8],[1]. Very good. Complete set of eight lobby cards and one sheet. Lobby cards measure 11 X 14 inches. One sheet measure 27 X 41 inches, has minor edge tears and a few holes with professional restoration. Lobby cards have very small amount of colour offsetting, mostly to verso, else clean and bright. Uncommon to get lobby cards and poster together in reasonable condition. Lobby cards and one sheet made to promote the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's novel. Despite being produced by a major movie studio and starring famous actors Leslie Caron and George Peppard the movie was a financial flop. Allen Ginsberg derided it for its two dimensional characters and shallow portrayal of the beat culture and this can be seen in the subtitles of the lobby cards, such as "When the party's over and she's alone, the wild Bohemian searches her soul for the answers" and "The new Bohemians took what they liked, even if it was another fellow's girl."..

Violently Accusatory Correspondence with CBS and Rod Serling

1960. unbound. An impassioned and violently accusatory correspondence sparked by the CBS Playhouse 90 production of "In the Presence of Mine Enemies," concerning the Warsaw Ghetto teleplay by Rod Serling, which was viewed by Uris "with total disbelief and revulsion at what I considered to be the most disgusting dramatic presentation in the history of American television...It could not have been a more perfect piece of Nazi apologetics if it had been produced by Joseph Goebbels..." This archive includes five main items, including: (1) a typed copy of a telegram that Uris sent on May 19, 1960, to CBS president Frank Stanton; (2) Stanton's original reply -- a one-page typed letter signed, 11 x 8.5 inches, on CBS letterhead on May 20, 1960; (3) the seven-page working copy of the letter Uris sent in response, 11 x 8.5 inches, heavily penciled and corrected in red by Uris himself; (4) a final/revised carbon of the letter that Uris actually sent to Stanton on June 1, 1960; (5) a carbon of a four-page letter Uris sent in response to Rod Serling on June 13, 1960. (Serling's original letter not included.) Several newspaper clippings are enclosed with the archive. The two original items in this archive -- Stanton's letter and Uris's draft -- are both in very good condition.
