Poems [Signed and with a short notation in Greek]

Atlantic Monthly Press [Little, Brown and Company], Boston 1960 - A Very Good copy of the First American Edition, first printing (light handling soil and some tiny spots to boards, a few spots to the rear board, board corners bumped, some foxing to the closed page block's top edge), in a Near Fine dust jacket (spine lightly sunned, quite light edge wear, tiny chipping at spine ends and corners, small rub at lower portion of the front panel near the flap turn, expected age toning to the rear panel and to the flap edges --- in excellent condition for an unlaminated dust jacket of this age), SIGNED BY GEORGE SEFERIS on the title page where he also has made a notation in Greek. Containing 127 pages, the book presents the first comprehensive collection of Seferis' Poetry published in the United States. While some of the verses selected for this book previously appeared in the 1948 translation of "The King of Asine", the balance of them appear here in English for the first time. A Greek Diplomat and Ambassador to the UK, and one of the Twentieth Century's most important Greek Poets, George Seferis won the 1963 Nobel Prize in Literature for "his eminent lyrical writing, inspired by a deep feeling for the Hellenic world of culture", making him the first Greek ever to have received the Prize. Signed copies of Seferis' works are extraordinarily scarce in any language, and our search of the of the auction records shows no signed copies of his works coming to auction in the last 55 years. Altogether a Very Good copy of an extremely difficult-to-find book from the first Greek author to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. A QUITE SCARCE COPY SIGNED AND WITH A SHORT NOTATION BY GEORGE SEFERIS. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

(JUDD, DONALD). Smith, Roberta, Dan Flavin & Donald Judd. Foreword by Brydon Smith. DONALD JUDD: A CATALOGUE OF THE EXHIBITION + CATALOGUE RAISONNÉ OF PAINTINGS, OBJECTS AND WOOD-BLOCKS 1960-1974. Ottawa, CANADA: National Gallery of Canada, 1975. First Edition. 4to. Debossed Cloth. Catalogue Raisonné. Good/No Jacket. xvi + 320pp, profusely illustrated in b&w and color. Text in English and French. With an exhibition history, bibliography, and exhibition checklist. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Published in conjunction with a comprehensive 1975 retrospective held at Ottawa's National Gallery of Canada, this substantial volume contains a full catalogue raisonné detailing entries for three hundred and fifty-five paintings, sculptural objects and wood block prints executed by the late, great Minimalist giant between 1960 and 1974. A most presentable example of the exceedingly uncommon hardbound edition lacking a dust jacket with the publisher's addenda / errata sheet and detached rear inside flap of the jacket laid in. Its orange cloth covers show some light soiling, a small abrasion to the upper foredge tip of the front board, and a diagonal crimp through the upper foredge tip of the rear board that does not affect the pages. The free endpapers have been discreetly glued down flat to the inside front and rear covers, and the textblock bears a bit of light soiling to the bottom edge of along with an ink smudge along the top. While it shows no visible accession pockets or spine labels, experience tells us it's likely this is an ex-library copy that has been nicely cleaned up. It has been priced accordingly. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight and value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase. 0-88884-277-5 Inventory Number: 023500&

TRES INTERESSANT ENSEMBLE. PICTURES AND MORE DETAILS ON REQUEST. Moments Preserved (Signed First Edition)

New York: Simon and Schuster, 1960. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. This is a signed first edition, first printing of the Irving Penn\'s first and most famous photobook \"Moments Preserved\" published by Simon and Schuster, New York, in 1960. Subtitled \"Eight Essays in Photographs and Words\", \"Moments Preserved\" gathers Penn\'s vast variety of enthusiasm - mostly for the vast variety of humanity - and slots them into categories by nationality: the French, the Italians, the English, and the Americans. Though most of these sections include fashion studies, still lifes, and the impressionist scents, they have in common the photographer\'s deftly understated portraits, printed here in subtlest gravure. Penn reinvented the classic daylight studio portrait for a more casual time, undercutting its formality but heightening its potential as a revealing performance. (Vince Aletti from \"The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century\") Measuring approximately 13.5 x 10 inches, the book is bound in beige cloth covered boards with a printed dust jacket protected by a mylar cover and is housed in a photographically illustrated laminated cardboard slipcase. The book is in FINE condition with a neat gift inscription. The dust jacket is in FINE condition with very superficial soiling. The slip case is in Near Fine condition with some surface and corner wear as well as some minor soiling to the back to the slipcase. Overall, this is an exceptional signed copy of a classic photobook that is very difficult to find in this condition. The book has been boldly signed and dated by Irving Penn on the first free endpaper and is inscribed to the famous art dealer, Mark Kelman. Cited in \"The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century\" by Andrew Roth.

        For Your Eyes Only

New York: Viking Press. 1960. First. First American edition. Fine in fine dustwrapper with a tiny rubbed spot on the front panel near the flap fold. The eighth Bond book, containing five separate stories of 007: the title story, "From a View To a Kill," "Quantum of Solace," "Risico," and "The Hildebrand Rarity." The first three stories have lent their names to James Bond films and, in the case of the book's title, a hit song as well. A superior, fresh and crisp copy, and seldom found thus. .
