        The Exterminator

(San Francisco): Auerhahn. 1960. A collaboration by Burroughs' with his longtime friend, Brion Gysin. This copy is inscribed by Burroughs to Ted Berrigan in New York in "1953" -- we're guessing he meant 1963. Also signed by Gysin, who designed the cover and illustrated the book, in addition to providing his own texts. Printed by Dave Haselwood, who later reissued this title under his own imprint in 1967. This edition is estimated by the bibliographer at 1000 copies. Covers and four illustrations by Gysin. Very good in wrappers. Seldom found signed by both, let alone as an excellent association copy as well. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good.

"A scarce map showing the fortress and city of Athens, mainly concentrating on classical sites within the city, with a very fine seperately printed border consisting of classical garlands and masks. From the ""Atlante Farnese"". In 1683 the Venetians invaded Greece trying to wrest contol from the Turks. Starting in the Morea, they reached Athens in 1687 and captured the city after an eight-day siege. This map was one of many published in celebration of the conquest by Coronelli, who was Cosmographer to the Republic of Venice. However the occupation was relatively short: the Morea was gradually lost again between 1715-1739."

        How Columbus Discovered America.

London: Printed in Czechoslovakia for Bancroft & Co. Ltd,, [1960]. Folio. Original triptych stiff card pictorial boards, illustration to inner cover in light and dark blue, 8 pp. text stapled at fold, double-page pop-up spread with blue cloth hinge, depicting Columbus's three ships against pictorial background, volvelle in shape of ship's wheel mounted to rear cover. Head- and tailpieces in black and white to text. Pop-up image size: 39 x 27 x 27 cm. A bit of wear to extremities, otherwise a fine copy in excellent working condition. First edition. The pop-up depicts Columbus's three ships — the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María — on their voyage. The cord rigging for the sails on the Santa María are still attached and the volvelle on the rear board functions perfectly and turns to reveal Columbus's routes across the Atlantic. It is part of Kubašta's Westminster Books "Panascopic Model Series". Vojtech Kubašta (1914–1992) was a Czech architect and artist best known for his three-dimensional books. Throughout the 1960s and 70s his ingenious books were translated into dozens of languages.

        Mr. Citizen.

Bernard Geis, New York 1960 - First edition, the author's edition. Octavo, original half leatherette, slipcase. Inscribed by the author on the half-title page, "To Honorable John Wesley Snyder from his good friend, comrade and associate in most trying times. He was the greatest of the great Secretaries of the Treasury." The original slipcase is also inscribed to Snyder from Truman but has faded. John W. Snyder was appointed Secretary of the Treasury in 1946 by his close personal friend President Truman, with whom he had served in the Army Reserves. His task as Secretary was to establish a stable postwar economy. The main points of his program were maintaining confidence in the credit of the government, reducing the federal debt, keeping the interest rate low, and encouraging public thrift through investment in U.S. Savings Bonds. A conservative businessman, he had faith that the free economy would work itself out. He reduced the national debt while balancing the budget. He held several public and private positions including National Bank Receiver in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Loan Administrator, and Director of War Mobilization and Reconversion. In the last office he played a leading part in the transition of the Nation's economy from wartime to a peacetime basis. An excellent association. "Mr. Citizen" is a collection of articles written by President Truman after leaving the White House. "Truman belongs in the company of our great Presidents" (New York Times).
