1959. Vintage original pressbook, France. Jeanne Moreau, Lucia Bose, dir: Marguerite Duras; Moullet & Cie. Writer-director Duras was a major name in mid-century French literature, one of the creators of the Nouveau Roman (New Novel), and a great experimental voice in film and literature. She also wrote many screenplays, beginning with HIROSHIMA, MON AMOUR (1959). She began directing in 1967, with an output of 19 films over two decades. "Her themes are memory, loss, and the interplay of reality and fictional perception. Her own films make great play with words, and with words that are more than normally separated from their images." (Thompson, p. 265.) Photos focus on actresses Moreau and Bose in this experimental and very female-centric film. "This art film has no conventional dialog between the main characters. This tells a strangely compelling story of two women in a suburban home who are listening to radio news broadcasts about a missing child in their area." (IMDb) Wrappers, with affixed printed label, 14 leaves, with four 5 x 7" (13 x 18 cm.) photos laid in, stamps of producer Moullet on back, FINE. [Attributes: Soft Cover]

This auction is for one copy of Semina 4 Magazine made by Wallace Berman in 1959. The book is a 8" x 9 1/2" folder and has 20 loose pages inside. The condition is not great but it still has an amazing presence. The folder is chipped and cracked and the fold is tearing ( see photos). The sleeve inside that holds the poems is ton down the outside edge. There are 20 interior pieces and they are in surprisingly good shape with some folded corners and age toning. This is a very scarce book by this influential artist that even in this condition will be an important addition to any collection. Please email me with any questions and check my other listings for more great books. Thank you. [Attributes: First Edition]

Eisenhower, Dwight D
1959. Rare original token of gratitude card signed by the 34th president of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower, from the collection of his trusted military aid Robert Schulz. Measuring 4.25 by 2.5 inches with the Presidential Seal in gilt the card reads, 'A small token of my gratitude for your helpfulness' signed, "Dwight D. Eisenhower." The card is displayed in a lucite block atop a wooden base with a silver medallion and button depicting Eisenhower and Konrad Adenauer. Accompanied by the miniature 49-star American flag which measures 11 inches in height mounted on a base bearing the text of the American Pledge of Allegiance that President Eisenhower took with him on all foreign trips between 1959 and 1960. With Schulz's son note of provenance, "Oral history: My father told me that this flag went with Ike on all foreign trips." The 49-star American flag was adopted on July 4, 1959 when Alaska joined the Union, and was replaced with the 50-star flag a year later upon Hawaii's admittance to statehood. The present miniature flag traveled with Eisenhower during this period which included his August through September tour of Europe which brought him to West Germany, England, and France where he held conferences with Queen Elizabeth II, Charles de Gaulle, Harold Macmillan, and Konrad Adenauer. Burroughs, William - Naked Lunch - Grove Press: New York, 1959 - First Edition / First Printing / First Issue Dust Jacket - "First Printing" stated on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. First issue dust jacket without the roman numerals to the rear panel and no zip code. "Did I ever tell you about the man who taught his asshole to talk? His whole abdomen would move up and down, you dig, farting out the words. It was unlike anything I ever heard. Bubbly, thick, stagnant sound. A sound you could smell. This man worked for the carnival, you dig? And to start with it was like a novelty ventriloquist act. After a while, the ass started talking on its own. He would go in without anything prepared and his ass would ad-lib and toss the gags back at him every time. Then it developed sort of teeth like little raspy incurving hooks and started eating. He thought this was cute at first and built an act around it but the asshole would eat its way through his pants and start talking on the street shouting out it wanted equal rights. It would get drunk, too, and have crying jags. Nobody loved it. And it wanted to be kissed, same as any other mouth. Finally, it talked all the time, day and night. You could hear him for blocks, screaming at it to shut up beating at it with his fists and sticking candles up it, but nothing did any good, and the asshole said to him... "It is you who will shut up in the end, not me because we don't need you around here anymore. I can talk and eat and shit." After that, he began waking up in the morning wi … [Click Below for Full Description]
