        Stanford White Autograph Letter Signed

Autograph letter signed by architect Stanford White. "To [Marie] Anais [Casey], believed to have been romantically involved with White by his biographer, Aline B. Saarinen. With a typewritten letter signed from Saarinen to Casey's daughter requesting additional background information on her mother's affair with White. The handwritten letter reads, "My dear dear Anais What do you mean? You know my services are always at your disposal- but in such a case as this I should feel very badly indeed if you did not consider what I have done for you as a labor of love & I am sure that at least in this case you can & will so accept it. To have pleased you - is all the reason I care of want for. ever yours Stanford White." In near fine condition, matted and framed. The Saarinen typed ALS dated November 2, 1959 to Ruth Watkins (Casey's daughter) seeks additional background information on her mother's affair with White, noting her mother was quite young when she met White, and the reticence of women in that era to discuss personal matters.Stanford White was an American architect and partner in the architectural firm of McKim, Mead & White. He designed a long series of houses for the wealthy, and numerous public, institutional, and religious buildings. His design principles embodied the "American Renaissance" and is one of the great American architects of the 19th century.

Fuchs? Who's Fuchs? My name's Alfred Hinds

, 1959. 1959. Sheet size: 192 × 140 mm. Pen and black ink on wove paper. Stamped on verso for publication in the Daily Mail, 24 June 1959, and with pencil reproduction instructions recto. Atom-bomb spy Klaus Fuchs was released, while small-time crook and serial prison escaper Alfie "Houdini" Hinds was still at large. The cartoons and illustrations of Nicolas Bentley (1907-1978) were part of the warp and weft of English popular culture in the 1950s and 60s. Never savage, though often waspishly accurate and exuding an urbane air of amusement at the foibles of his fellows, Bentley's work was familiar to the public from a wide variety of publications. Between 1952 and 1954 he drew regular cartoons for the weekly Time and Tide, and after that for the daily News Chronicle. Between 1958 and 1962 he drew topical cartoons for the Daily Mail under the title "Watch My Line." He also drew many portraits, in black and white line, of famous people, for various papers, including over sixty for the Sunday Telegraph, which began publication in February 1961.

Original Watercolour Artwork for the 1959 Paperback Edition of The Dark Frontier

1959.. 1959., 1959. The watercolour illustration measures 53cm x 34cm and is SIGNED by the artist, Oliver Brabbins, on the lower left. It is mounted and framed, the total size of the yellow metal effect frame is 75.5cm x 55cm. A striking design of the cover for the First Paperback Edition of this title. Based on the development of weaponry in the year 1936, The Dark Frontier was one of the first novels to predict the invention of a nuclear bomb and its consequences. Ambler evidently had no knowledge of what producing an atomic bomb may involve (even professional physicists at the time had only a vague idea).

        Autograph letter signed.

Paris, 20. I. 1959.. Oblong small 4to. 2 pp.. [ ]". - On headed paper "Telegram"; small damage to edges, and slightly dust-soiled.

Look, I can't collect your bets for you and be wildcat - which do you want?

, 1959. 1959. Sheet size: 192 × 140 mm. Pen and black ink on wove paper. Stamped on verso for publication in the Daily Mail, 19 November 1959, and with pencil reproduction instructions recto. Gently guys the strike culture that had been rather more roughly skewered by the Boulting brothers's comedy I'm All Right Jack, released August 1959.

        LIVE AND LET DIE

London: Jonathan Cape 1959 - Sixth printing of the 1954 first edition. Signed by Ian Fleming. Original cloth in dustwrapper. A superb near fine, clean bright and tight copy, the lightest of bumping to the spine tips, the contents complete and without foxing. With the "Four Oaks Farm" bookplate film producer Stan Meyer to the front free endpaper. Complete with the very good rubbed and nicked original dustwrapper which has a small chip to the bottom of the spine where it meets the back panel, which is a little duty. Not price-clipped 10s 6d net. Unusually for this printing, the dustwrapper is identical to that of the first edition, third state (rear flap blank, back panel with advert for Casino Royale, the front flap with the artist credit directly underneath the publisher’s blurb). Signed by the author in blue ink on the front free endpaper. Provenance: From the library of Stanley and Dodo Meyer.         Rango : Posse from Hell [large format pre-production TV series script / portfolio]

[Spartan Productions, 1959]. [Spartan Productions, 1959], 1959. 1st Edition. Pre-production or proposal portfolio for a western TV series entitled 'Rango' featuring the script for a presumed pilot episode 'Posse from Hell', with a selection of proposed storylines for future episodes. Three pages of production credits indicate that this item was published in 1959, by Spartan Productions, with Blake Edwards credited as director. Gordon Oliver is credited in the leading role of Rango. Clair Huffaker is credited as writer, indicating that the script is based on his 1958 novel, 'Posse from Hell'. This novel was eventually adapted into a Universal film in 1961 starring Audie Murphy and directed by Herbert Coleman. Also included is the album cover for the original theme music written by Hank Mancini. Unfortunately the LP is lacking. Hank (Henry) Mancini was involved in a dispute regarding the 1961 film with Universal's music director, Joseph Gershenson, who reused the music scores from This Island Earth (1955) and It Came from Outer Space (1953), rather that the original music. Therefore, it appears that Rango: Posse from Hell was the pilot for a proposed TV series that was eventually adapted into a film produced by Gordon Kay and Edward Muhl for Universal. In the film version Rango's name is changed to Banner Cole. There was also a 1967 Western/Comedy TV series called Rango. Other than the title of the main character, there does not appear to be any link to between these productions, although is is possible some elements may have been adapted. Subjects: Film -- Westerns -- TV series -- Scripts -- 1950s -- 1960s -- Television -- History -- United States. Physical description: Unpaginated. Impressively colour illustrated throughout. 38 x 54cm. .
