American International School, Vienna 1959 - Oblong quarto. Brown morocco with the gilt name of the American Ambassador to Austria, H. Freeman Matthews. Some rubbing and spotting on the boards, else near fine; internally fine. 27 large silver gelatin images tipped in, with printed captions facing each image. The school was founded to accommodate the children of American and Canadian diplomats in Vienna, and exists to this day. Matthews had previously served as Ambassador to the Netherlands, and served as Acting Secretary of State for a grand total of one day under Eisenhower upon the departure of Dean Acheson.         Pura Tessin. Aquarell.

1959. Monogrammiert in Aquarell. Some Like It Hot" - Signed Reproduction Poster Photograph

      - Reproduction photograph of the poster for the iconic 1959 comedy, hand signed by its two stars, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, and by its director, Billy Wilder. Marilyn Monroe is shown playing the ukulele in a rather impractical position, flanked by her adoring "bosom companions" in drag. Glossy print with slightly irregular margins, otherwise in very fine condition with excellent bold signatures. 10 x 8 inches (25.3 x 20 cm). Some Like It Hot is considered to be one of the greatest film comedies of all time and was voted as the top comedy film by the American Film Institute on their list on AFI's 100 Years. 100 Laughs poll in 2000. The film is also notable for featuring cross dressing, and for playing with the idea of homosexuality, which led to it being produced without approval from the Motion Picture Production Code. The code had been gradually weakening in its scope during the early 1950s, due to increasing societal tolerance for previously taboo topics in film, but it was still officially enforced. The overwhelming success of Some Like It Hot was a final nail in the coffin for the Hays Code.
