        The Catcher in the Rye.

Boston. Little, Brown & Company. 1951. - First Edition with the statement "First Edition" on the copyright page. A very handsome copy bound in woven black cloth and stamped brightly in gilt on the spine. The book is very clean and tight throughout, perhaps unread. The black boards have been exposed to a few flecks of water at some point which have left a few faint, light spots on the front boards. There is also a touch of water exposure to 3" at the top left-hand corner of the rear boards. Internally, the paper is clean, creamy white and untouched. The complete dustjacket has the price of $3.00 at the top of the inside front panel and the iconic Lotte Jacobi photograph of J.D. Salinger on the rear panel. Above the $3.00 price someone has printed in small letters lightly in ink "copy #2." The front panel with the carousel horse is quite bright and very striking. The dustjacket measures 8 3/8" while the book measures 8", indicating that the jacket is most likely from a later 1951 printing. The jacket has some light striations on the rear panel and a few flecks around Salinger's chin and forehead. Overall, a very attractive copy of this classic. First Edition with the statement "First Edition" on the copyright page. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        Eigenh. Brief mit U. ("Zedlitz").

Wien, 7. XI. 1951 od. 1853.. 3 SS. auf Doppelblatt. Gr.-8vo..

Verschiedene Formate. Die Photographie i. F. 201:125 mm. This is not what I consider a final draft of Gigi, by any means, for there is plenty of work to be done on it. But I do feel it is at a stage where I should proceed according to the ideas of the director. My own concept of the play is that the whole thing should be in the mood of a rather naughty Valentine and that it must definitely have a girl in the title role who can emerge as a star. (Mind you, I do think that the part will give any actress plenty of scope and opportunity.) Another idea I have is this - - If it were a possibility that Bethel Leslie could play Gigi, it might also be a possibility that Helen Hayes would play Aunt Alicia. I know that Helen has been considering to do a play with Bethel, should the right one come along. So this might be it [...]" (a. d. Br. v. 3. IV. 1951). (2½ SS. auf 3 Bll.): "Love to my twin brother from | Anita". - Aus der Sammlung Charles Williamson und Tucker Fleming.

Ref: Cramer 61, Bloch 690.The Story of Maria Elona y Rubia, from the "automatic" poem and collages of  Valentina Penrose. Woman of talent, beauty and personality, Valentina was one of the first women who joined the Surrealist movement; through her wide travels around the world she has built a full life, enhancing her magical imagery, eroticism, and passionate feminist nature. Her poems flow in a stream of musical rhythm, and her evocative images dragged in impossible dreams. Valentina was a surreal soul who naturally embraced the movement, she inspired Eluard to write the preface of this book with a deep admiration of her feminine phantasmagoria. Picasso influenced by Eluard was also inspired to make the beautiful etching that complete this edition: The Couple. It shows two women on a bed, locked in each other?s arms.

        Ms. Brief mit eigenh. U.

Wohl Huntsville, Alabama, 25. XI. 1951.. 1 S. 4to.. Januar so beeindruckt habe [...]
