Die Protokolle der Weisen von Zion und die jüdische Weltpolitik

Alfred Ernst Rosenberg (russisch Alfred Woldemarowitsch Rosenberg * 31. Dezember 1892jul./ 12. Januar 1893greg in Reval 16.

        Inhabitants

1946 - MORRIS, Wright. The Inhabitants. New York and London: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1946. Slim quarto, original pale green cloth, original dust jacket. $2500.First edition of this "first work in photofiction," with 52 black-and-white photogravure plates of America at mid-century, an often haunting record of a people known by their imprint on the land."Often called one of the nation's most unrecognized writers," Wright Morris was frequently compared to Faulkner and Cather for his "evocation of an idiosyncratic America" (New York Times). In addition to a legacy of 19 novels, Morris produced five books of photography, a passion first inspired by a 1938 cross-country trip where, in his words, he "saw the American landscape crowded with ruins I wanted to salvage." In 1942, having won the "second Guggenheim Fellowship ever awarded in photography (the first had gone to Edward Weston in 1937)," he photographed a history he felt was disappearing. This groundbreaking "first work in photofiction" wedded Morris' prose and a photographic focus that searched out not merely a nation's people, "but their artifacts-objects (mostly of wood) bearing their imprint." On seeing Morris' images, Thomas Mann wrote him, praising these photographs so vivid with "the harsh beauty of ugliness, the romanticism of the commonplace, the poetry of the unpoetical" (Roth, 122). The Inhabitants would become the first of a trilogy by Morris, followed by The Home Place (1948) and God's Country and My People (1968). Owner inscription to front dust jacket flap.Book fine; light edge-wear and soiling, some chipping and slight abrasions minimally affecting text on spine of extremely good, unrestored dust jacket. BOB SMITH - First Edition, First Printing of "The Little Red Book"In 1942, Ed Webster, a member of the Nicollet Group of Alcoholics Anonymous in Minneapolis, began teaching classes on "the study and application" of the Twelve Steps of A.A. Classes were attended by the many newcomers who were then joining the group and they were run using a set of manually typed instruction sheets. Eventually, the demand for access to this format became so great, that, in August of 1946, Webster partnered with Barry C. (the first sober member in Minnesota) and they privately printed the most recent revision of the text in book form. The half-title of that first printing read "The Twelve Steps" and the title page pronounced the book to be "An Interpretation of the Twelve Steps of the Alcoholics Anonymous Program." [NOTE: We have much more information on this book, but ABE's restrictions on size prevent it appearing here. Please contact Athena Rare Books directly for more details.]The present copy is a first edition, first printing copy (identifiable not only by the MCMXLVI date on the title page, but also by the 116 pages of content - all later printings were longer) and it has been signed by Dr. Bob Smith on the half-title page in his distinctive hand with blue ink: "Best wishes for / continued success / Dr. Bob" The original publisher's burgundy pebbled cloth binding with no printing whatsoever on the exterior of the book. There is just the most minor of wear to the covers. The front side hinge has been professionally reinforced. Other than Dr. Bob's inscription there is no writing whatsoever in this book. A clean, tight, bright copy of a difficult book to find even without the inscription, but Bob Smith's message of hope and his signature make this a truly rare find and a singular contribution to any substantive collection of A.A. materials.         Australia Her Natural and Industrial Resources. In the Post-War World.

London.. Dated in image 1946. Published ca. 1946.. Color pictorial / pictographic map poster, 19 1/4 x 29 1/4 inches (49 x 73.5 cm) on sheet size 19 3/4 x 30 inches (50 x 76cm). Originally folded, now mounted on archival paper, minimising folds. Very good condition. One of a series of maps of the British colonies highlighting their rich resources designed by MacDonald Gill in 1942 for the British Government; the poster was then issued over a period of several years with changing text in the decorative banner at lower right. This particular copy was issued shortly after the end of World War II; the text reads: "IN THE POST-WAR WORLD. Australia has emerged from the World War with increased stature, as a 'Pacific' Power. During the struggle her industrial resources were completely reorganised, and her factories turned out armaments and aircraft of many kinds. Her wool and foodstuffs helped to clothe and feed the armies of the United Nations. She enters the era of peace strongly equipped for further advance." Exquisite pictographs of the natural resources, strong color, textual interest, a striking compass rose: these design features all attest to Gill's graphic genius which had a profound impact on the course of 20th century pictorial mapmaking. Lower left: "Printed in England by Alf Cooke Ltd., Leeds and London. 51-9063." Lower right: "O.P.D. 39/219/6." .

        CORNWALL

A colour lithographic poster, reference P.W.8, [1946], printed by Stafford & Co, London, double royal (40" x 25"), laid down on light card, presented in a seemly modern frame. In very good condition, the image bright and sharp, some folds & closed tears evident on close examination! Frank Sherwin was born in 1896 in Derby and trained first at the Derby School of Art and then the Heatherley School of Fine Art in London. He was well known for his railway posters and between 1937 and 1966 he designed around 40 posters for the Big Four railway companies and British Railways. He died in Cookham in Berkshire in 1986 where he had lived for over 45 years. This poster is from a series of three posters designed by Sherwin for the GWR, the other two being Devon (P.W.9) and Somerset (P.W.10). After the war the GWR gave their posters post-war (P.W.) references starting with P.W.1 (Newquay by Alker Trip) and finishing with P.W.33 (Paignton by Relf), just prior to nationalisation at the end of 1947

An Elementary Derivation of the Equivalence of Mass and Energy.

Haifa, The Hebrew Institute of Technology Haifa, (1946). 4to. Offprint from "Technion Journal. A Yerabook Devoted to the Advancement of Technological Training and Research in Palestine and the Middle East". (4) pp. Clean and fine. First edition in the scarce offprint of an importent paper as it represents Einstein's last and most simple derivation of the energy-mass relation, the famous equivalence expressed in the equation E=mc2.Einstein was never satisfied with his 1905 (and later) derivation(s) of the mass-energy relation. In spite of many strenous efforts he did not succeeded in establishing a general proof of the relation. "That he also always strived for greater generality by narrowing down the range of the postulated premises, can be gathered from the introductory remarks to his last published derivation of 1946 (the paper offered)"(Max Jammer): "The following derivation of the law of equivalence, which has not been published before, has two advantages.Although it makes use of the principle of special relativity, it does not presume the formal machinery of the theory but uses only three kown laws: (1) The law of the conservation of momentum. (2) The expression for the pressure of radiation; that is the momentum of a complex ofradiation moving in a fixed direction. (3) The well known expression for the aberration of light (influenceof the motion of the earth on the apparent location of the fixed stars - Bradley)" (Einstein in the foreword to the offered paper).Weil: 218 - Boni: 253.- Not in Shields. The paper was reprinted in "Out of My Later Years", 1950.

        Collection of Skupina Ra Material

Group of books, manifestos, exhibition catalogs, and original work related to the Czech post-war surrealist group Skupina Ra (Ra Group), approximately 17 items total, several duplicates, including the group's two 1946 anthologies, "A Zatím Co Válka (And While the War)", and Skupina Ra, which contain their manifestos; individual exhibition catalogues by Josef Istler and Bohdan Lacina; examples of book design and illustration by Istler and Václav Tikal; and literary works by other members of the group, especially Ludvík Kundera. Illustrated throughout. Various sizes and formats, mostly 8vo. Most volumes with orig. wrpps. Various cities (Czech Republic) 1946-1987. Some volumes signed and inscribed. Skupina Ra was a group of painters, graphic artists, photographers, poets, writers, and translators that became active in the late 1930s, continued to exist illegally during the German Protectorate, and held public exhibits in the late 1940s before being banned by the Czech Communist goverment in 1948 as a hostile movement. Its core members included Zden k Lorenc, Ludvík Kundera, Josef Istler, Miloš Ko e ek, Bohdan Lacina, Vilém Reichmann, Václav Tikal, and Václav Zykmund. Although Surrealism was forbidden by both the Fascist Protectorate and the Communist goverment, it was a strong influence in Czech post-war art and literature. As of November 2016, most titles appear to be held by very few North American institutions or not at all.
