Resurrexit Dominus. LIMITED FIRST EDITION FROM THE PUBLISHER'S OWN LIBRARY.

1934 - Privately Printed [By Boriswood though not stated] Limited to 110 copies Signed and Numbered by Hanley on limitation page. This being number 4 being from the Publisher's own library and bought by us from the grand-daughter of the original publishers. Large 8vo. Bound in vellum with leather lettering piece. Top edge gilt, others deckled (uncut). A Fine copy in the original acetate wrapper. Loosely inserted are some 'obscene' passages typed onto two pieces of paper with page references probably used by the family for the court case that was running at this time over "Boy". See notes below. Undoubtedly the scarcest of Hanley's books, private published by his trade publisher, Boriswood, who held the manuscript for three years because of its controversial subject matter (the rape of a 14-year-old girl by a priest). During this period Hanley and Boriswood were being sued in connection with the publication of "Boy", which suit they lost. The publishers Boriswood were advised that, owing to the book's reference to 'intimacy between members of the male sex', any defence against prosecution was futile. In March 1935 Boriswood pleaded guilty of "uttering and publishing an obscene libel" and paid a substantial fine. While Resurrexit Dominus was not officially suppressed, as was "Boy", copies of the book were, generally, not available. The title still remains out of print. Gibbs A11a.         Man Ray: Photographs 1920-1934 Paris; Photographies 1920-1934 Paris

Hartford Connecticut:: James Thrall Soby: Random House, NY & Cahiers d'Art, Paris:, n.d. [1934].. First edition [spuriously stated 'Second Edition'].. Comb binding. Very Good. [vi], 104 [+8], [ii]. Very good copy with head of binder damaged. Plates and text clean and unmarked, corners good; small tears to binder holes at spine ends. Residue of small pencilled price to corner of title page. Faint greying of some white page areas from offsetting. 31x24.5cms, in the original white plastic comb binding. The Man Ray colour photograph front cover is clean and complete, with minimal (c.1mm) scuffs to the edges, a crease across the upper corner, tiny creases adjacent to the spine, a few short rubbed striations to the top edge, and one or two lesser imperfections. The white rear cover has a few minor marks, a 5mm closed tear to the leading edge, and a small loss of laminate to the bottom corner. The top two circlets of the binder have gone, and the third is present but detached. Text in French and English throughout (German and English in the case of Duchamp). The 'Deuxieme Edition' / 'Second Edition' printed on the title pages of unsold (first edition) copies was the publisher's ruse in the hope of boosting sales. Man Ray's introduction is set at the beginning of the book, and the four contributors' texts, introducing the groupings of the photographs, are titled: The visages of woman; Men before the mirror; When things dream; and Rayographs 1921-1928. A legendary production - and a very satisfactory copy.

Georg Thieme, Leipzig. PAMPHLET. First separate edition. Offprint. Original wrappers. Tear to head and heal of spine, else very good. Inscribed presentation copy to Sewall Wright signed by Timofeeff-Ressovsky. "Like Dobzhansky, Timofeeff-Ressovsky attended the Sixth International Congress of Genetics in Ithaca, New York, in 1932, heard Wright speak, and was greatly impressed. Indeed, as in Dobzhansky's case, Timofeeff-Ressovsky's conception of the evolutionary process thereafter bore the strong stamp of Wright's concenptions. Timofeeff-Ressovsky published three major papers on evolution in nature (Buzzati-Traverso, Jucci, and Timofeeff-Ressovsky 1938, Timofeeff-Ressovsky 1939, 1940). All three reflected Wright's ideas."         Tarnschrift:] Warum nicht ein Musikinstrument? (= Rede vor dem Leipziger Gericht).

No place or printer, [ca 1934]. - 16mo. 33, (3) pp. Illustrated original wrappers. Extremely rare German anti-fascist "Tarnschrift" (a clandestine pamphlet or "camouflaged book"), here masquerading as a brochure advertizing an accordeon: in fact, it contains the closing address delivered by the Bulgarian communist Dimitrov on 16 December 1933 before the Leipzig court, where he was on trial for alleged complicity in the Reichstag fire. Also includes two introductory essays by Wilhelm Pieck and D. Manuilski. During the trial, Dimitrov famously seized the opportunity to defend communism, refused counsel and defended himself against his Nazi accusers, primarily Hermann Göring. Dimitrov's calm conduct of his defence and the accusations he directed at his prosecutors won him world renown, while the intended show trial turned out a debacle for the National Socialists in their first year of power. - Perfectly preserved.         I Was a Pagan

Hodder & Stoughton, England 1934 - I Was A Pagan, by V.C. Kitchen, Hodder And Stoughton, London, MCMXXXIV (Jan, 1934). Dedication page; 'To The Oxford Group, That disciplined army of Life Changers who gave new meaning to my life and new direction to its purpose". The highly anticipated 1st printing release of 20,000 copies of this title in Jan., 1934, was sold out in 1 day, and a second printing was immediately ordered. (Feburary, 1934) Later in March, the American Edition would supply the bookstores published by Harper & Brothers. This true first printing is inscribed and signed on the FFEP, "To Jim Moore, from one "revolutionary" to another, Victor Kitchen, May 17, 1934. "In 1934, Victor Constant Kitchen published a book called "I Was A Pagan", describing his discovery of the Oxford Group and the way it had changed his life. This little volume is one of the most useful of the works which were written during that period, for those who wish to obtain detailed knowledge about the group's central beliefs and practices, including such things as house parties, confession, moral inventory, quiet time, and guidance. There are also excellent descriptions of some of the spiritual experiences which the group's members had but is equally important in terms of understanding the early Alcoholics Anonymous movement, and what the A.A. people learned from the Oxford Group."
