DIRAC, Paul Adrien Maurice
Technischer Staatsverlag, Charkow, 1933. Extremely rare offprint of this seminal paper which, in the hands of Richard Feynman, gave birth to the path-integral formulation of quantum mechanics and Feynman integrals. In his Nobel Lecture, Feynman described how he discovered a way to quantize a classical theory given by the principle of least action based upon a Lagrangian, rather than the usual approach via Hamiltonians. Feynman explained the problem to Herbert Jehle, whom he met by chance during a visit of Jehle to Princeton in 1947. Jehle pointed out that Dirac, in the present paper, had given "an infinitesimal time development operator involving the classical Lagrangian. Successive applications of this operator to the initial wave function generated the wave function at any later time, and the wave function was equivalent to finding the solution of the Schrödinger equation. To obtain the wave function after a finite time has elapsed, however, [Feynman realised that] one had to integrate over all possible paths containing two arbitrary space-time points. This, in fact, was the path-integral approach of Feynman" (Biogr. Mems Fell. R. Soc.Lond. 48 (2002), p. 107). "In the autumn of 1932, [Dirac] found another way of [developing quantum mechanics by analogy with classical mechanics], by generalising the property of classical physics that enables the path of any object to be calculated, regardless of the nature of the forces acting on it. "[At the heart of this technique are two quantities.] The first, known as the Lagrangian, is the difference between an object's energy of mot … [Click Below for Full Description]

And whoever reads will understand us. This is how the Preliminary Note signed by the editor of the magazine reads. McRAE, H. St. G. M.
Glasgow: Robert Maclehose & Co. Ltd., 1933. Glasgow: Robert Maclehose & Co. Ltd.,, 1933 . Octavo. Original dark blue cloth, gilt lettered spines, gilt regimental crest on front board. Portrait frontispiece of Rattray from a photograph, 10 folding battle plans. Slightly rubbed and spotted, spine with splits and a few chips head and tail, endpapers browned and with some foxing, pale toning to the text, light foxing to the fore-edge, very good. First and sole edition, issued "for private circulation only", decidedly uncommon Copac cites copies at just three British and Irish institutional libraries (BL, Scotland, York), Perkins adds National Army Museum and India Office and OCLC another 11 world-wide. Perkins describes McRae's book as "a full and readable history" covering "the story of [the regiment] very comprehensively": "The Regt traced its origins to 1855 when Capt Thomas Rattray was ordered to raise the Bengal Military Police Bn, in Lahore, for service in Bihar. Eighteen months later, the Mutiny erupted. The Bn found itself to be the only HEIC armed force anywhere between Calcutta and Benares. The men remained loyal and were a key element in stemming the tide of disorder in Bihar Province" (ibid.) Perkins, pp. 467-68 for rarity and value as a reference source.

[PREWAR ADVERTISING]
1933. 192. [PREWAR ADVERTISING]. 2 1/2 SCRAPBOOKS OF JAPANESE ADVERTISING MOCK-UPS. A wonderful collection - over 210 pages of advertising mockups from a Japanese advertising firm, perhaps, of the late 20s and early 30s of the last century. The accounts are mostly identifiend. The mockups are made up of proof-printed texts and illustrations, hand-drawn text and illustrations, original photo positives, etc., etc. Many Deco inspired design elements. Ad interesting view over the shoulder of an advertising designer of the time. Two bound scrapbooks and one unbound selection of loose pages. A lot of the ads appear to be from 1933 [Hachinen], flogging camera film. No indication of the name of the agency or designer, but many of the ads appeared in magazines like ASAHI CAMERA and the like. Very interesting resource.

George, David Lloyd
New York: Little, Brown and Company, 1933, 1934,1936, 1937. Hardcover. Near fine/very good +. A Very Good + set of David Lloyd George's Memoir of the first World War. Active in British Politics, in 1890 he narrowly won a by-election to become the Member of Parliament for Caernarvon Boroughs. He held that seat for fifty-five years, served in Henry Campbell-Bannerman's cabinet, served as Chancellor of the Exchequer, and helped to establish the modern welfare state. In 1915, he served as Minister of Munitions under a Liberal-led wartime coalition and there rapidly expanded production, and, in 1916, he was appointed Secretary of State for War, a post he held only for a short while. When Asquith resigned his post in early December 1916, David Lloyd George became Prime Minister, a post he held through October 19, 1922. In 1940,he declined an offer to serve in Winston Churchill's War Cabinet and was raised to the peerage in 1945. He was, of course, just the man to write about the War. This Memoir is given in six Volumes issued sequentially over several years. 1933. Tape Reading and Market Tactics The Three Steps to Successful Stock Trading Humphrey Bancroft Neill 1933 A near fine collectible copy with bright gilt, clean pages and a tight binding. A touch of wear to one corner and the previous owners name on the front blank paper. The rare dust jacket (only the second one we have seen in over 20 years) is in very good condition with nice colors, a couple of light spots on the spine and some wear and creases on the rear panel. Overall, a very attractive jacketed copy. The astute market trader is aware of the importance of the tape. It is the composite action of all the people, the blend of their hopes and fears. The tape is therefore a true indicator of market trends and underlines the demand for individual stocks. If this explanation appears too simple, and causes you to wonder why you haven't thought about it before, don't berate yourself. The answers are here in Humphrey Neill's excellent analysis of how the tape tells you what to do, how to do it and the all important, when to do it. I don't intend that to imply that there is a magic formula. There is a great deal of common sense and help in distilling the problems of trading into their essential components. They are discussed in this this book. The emphasis throughout is on the human equation and how it relates to market action. The tape shows the trader what the crowd is doing. A fact which Richard Wyckoff did not miss when he published his classic, Studies in Tape Reading in 1910. The tape also spotlights individual stocks that are popular. This brings us to the importance … [Click Below for Full Description]
