Wisconsin, Minnesota, Canada, 1933. Hardcover. Good. Oblong quarto. Measuring 11½" x 7". String-tied black leather over stiff paper boards. Contains 290 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 4" x 6", with captions. Good only albums with detached but present pages and worn edges with near fine photographs. A photo album following camping trips and excursions taken by a group of female friends in the 1920s and early 1930s around Wisconsin. The women are seen fishing, camping, swimming, canoeing, and engaged in other outdoor sports and activities. It seems the women were close friends and tried to go on a trip once a year. They traveled around Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Canada, enjoying the natural landscape of the region including Elk Creek Lake, Chippewa River, various waterfalls, and the Yellow River. They are often photographed goofing off and being silly. The women are pictured in fashionable clothes and stylish bobbed haircuts as well as in trousers and bathing costumes. One photo is captioned, "waiting for President Coolidge" who was speaking at a church in Burke, Wisconsin in 1928. The camaraderie of the group is seen throughout the album with smiling faces, women draped over each other in cots, and working together to start camp fires and row boats. Towards the end of the album the women are seen skiing at a country club in 1933. An extensive collection of photographs detailing women's camping trips in the 1920s.

JEFFERS, Robinson
Random House, New York, 1933. First trade edition. Corners and spine ends worn and a little frayed, a good only copy lacking the dustwrapper. However, Inscribed by the author to Mercedes de Acosta: "Inscribed for Mercedes de Heusta(sic) with so much pleasure in seeing you here. Faithfully, Robinson Jeffers. Tor House, Carmel, California. November, 1933." De Acosta was a writer and actress, and a flamboyant Cuban-born lesbian linked romantically to Greta Garbo, Isadora Duncan, Marlene Dietrich, and many others, and who apparently acted as something of a facilitator in artistic circles (late in her life she championed and promoted a young Andy Warhol). Flack, Marjorie
New York: Viking, 1933. Fine in very good plus jacket.. Original quarter black cloth, paper pictorial boards. Illustrated by Kurt Wiese with wonderful color lithographs. Book with slightest bit of edge rubbing; jacket with two small closed tears and slight rubbing. First edition, in the scarce original dust jacket, about a little Chinese duckling who lives on a houseboat in Peking. According to Barbara Bader, "This was one of the first instances in picturebooks proper of a story being written by one person to be pictured by another, and as the first notable instance, the collaboration of an established author and illustrator, it was bound to be influential." One of Wiese's best works, and very scarce.

KARL MARX, (1818-1883).
Dün ve Yarin Tercüme Külliyati / Sirketi Mürettibiye Matbaasi, Istanbul, 1933. Contemporary dark green cloth bdg. Title gilt on spine. Cr. 8vo. (19 x 13 cm). In Turkish. 305, [1] p., errata. Yorulmaz's first Turkish translation of 'Das Kapital' has been the subject of many 'translation studies'. The most important work in the entrepreneurship of Yorulmaz's left thought repertoire, published in the cultural series was 'Sermaye [= Das Kapital]'. Published as the 7th book of 'the Capital Culture Series', an abridged translation of Das Kapital by Karl Marx. Yorulmaz wrote about his translation: "I had an experience on these empty days and I am translating and publishing a loyal story of 14 volumes, "Das Kapital", collected by Gabriel Dövil. If this abridged edition is requested, I will finally begin with these 14 volumes, starting in June 1937, and translating four every year.". Yorulmaz had translated 'Das Kapital' to Turkish from Gabrielle Deville's French translation which was an abridged edition. In his sayings, the purpose of Yorulmaz was, if this abridged edition is requested or demanded he would translate full text of 'Das Kapital'. However, he couldn't realize this dream. Nevertheless, the effect of the 'Sermaye' in the Turkish leftist thought is quite great. Because "Capital" was the first translation of "Das Kapital" into Turkish and at that time it functioned to fill the gap that existed in terms of socialist thought. He was concerned with knowing Karl Marx's thoughts, and therefore in his preface to 'Sermaye', he described his intellectual approach as "[one] sect wh … [Click Below for Full Description]

RACKHAM, Arthur
London: George G Harrop and Co. Ltd, 1933. Octavo, 8 full-colour plates and 60 line-drawings in the text, spine and cover with original gilt-work, top edge gilt, others uncut; original publisher's vellum over boards. Limited edition of 460 signed by the artist. A limited edition of 460 signed by Rackham. An inspired anthology drawn from "old favourites of the nursery...Most of them had a long and eventful life of oral tradition before somebody who could write caught them as they flew and consigned them to cold print" [Illustrator's Preface]. Classics by Hans Anderson such as "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Emperor's New Clothes" and Charles Perrault's "Cinderella" and "Puss in Boots" appear with tales from The Arabian Nights and the traditional English folk tale "Jack and the Beanstalk" and Washington Irving's American classic "Rip van Winkle". Published near the end of his remarkable career, Rackham with characteristic rich earth-tones illustrates a mythical fairy world in this beautifully published edition. He is mindful of belonging to an ancient tradition of story-telling and notes "in our own day, inspired story-tellers go on adding original characters to the stock--an Alice, a Peter Pan, and a Mr. Toad", forecasting a Golden Age of British book illustration. Scarce in this original limited edition. Provenance: James Fairfax (from his library at Retford Park, Bowral NSW, with bookplate).

C. K. Izdevums; Sarkana pal dz ba Spiestuve, [Latvia], 1933. First editions. Two issues. 13; 44pp. Mimeographed. In original stapled illustrated wrappers. Slightly yellowed, somewhat nicked at edges, but still easily very good. Rare issues of this Latvian underground, anti-fascist, pro-communist magazine of the Red Aid. Issue number 3 features a giant head of Adolf Hitler supervising a massacre of workers by Nazi soldiers wearing swastika-armband; on the rear wrapper a similarly sized Mussolini-head supervises the stabbing of man, the text reads: "Nost! Fasismu!" (Away with Fascism!). The cover of issue 4/5 illustrates the first article of the magazine "Pret jauno sodu likarmu" (Against the New Penalty Law), with the images of hanged men, prison, handcuffs, swastika, and barbed wire. Very scarce. We could only trace copies of these two numbers in the Ainars Ikstens collection of the Hoover Institution Archives. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Big Little Books, 1933. Original VERY RARE hardcover Mother Goose Big Little Book. It is one of only a handful I have ever seen in 20 years of collecting and is by far the best condition. I have seen a worse condition one sell for over $1,000. This was one deemed by Larry Lowery one of the rarest of the Big Little Books. All pages individually are complete and nothing clipped out. There is a little wear on the corners, but beyond this, it is in pristine condition. I am only selling because I have a financial need, but this is one of the prizes from my personal collection. The pictures include a plastic film protective sheet to ensure it is safely stored and I did not want to remove it for pictures. If you need additional pictures of information about the listed item, please let me know. Shipping and handling is $4.00 for all US buyers. It can be combined with other items won to save on shipping costs. Thank you!
