Edición limitada a 152 ejemplares solamente. Size: 4º [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        A ROOM OF ONE'S OWN

McClelland & Stewart, Toronto 1932 - Woolf, Virginia. A ROOM OF ONE'S OWN. Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 1932, 8vo., 172pp. Publisher's original blue boards, titles to spine gilt. A near fine fresh copy [neat contemporary name on the ffe.] in the blue printed dustwrapper of the First Canadian Edition, first printing. The most elusive of the First Editions having been printed in the US [possibly from Harcourt Brace supplied sheets] in an unknown but very small edition, [250 - 500 copies, a speculation]. A very nice example for the completist, the DJ has one repaired closed tear but is otherwise very bright & interesting in its yellowish tonal quality. Woolf's major polemic against patriarchy, based loosely on two lectures she delivered, one at Newnham and the other at Girton. Kirkpatrick and Clarke A12dd. Woolf observed in her diary, "I shall be attacked for a feminist". An increasingly uncommon & important Woolf title & 20th century literary highlight. Excellent copy. Noted in Kirkpatrick's latest edition. As far as we know, fewer than three or four copies in dustwrappers have surfaced in the last 30 years. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        Miss Zilphia Gant.

The Book Club of Texas 1932. First edition of 300 numbered copies. - [Colophon:] "Miss Zilphia Gant" is published for the first time in an edition of 300 copies for distribution to the members of The Book Club of Texas It has been designed and printed by J. M. Colville & Son, at Dallas Texas This Copy is No. 102. 5 1/4" x 7 7/8", xi, 29 pp. + colophon. Finely printed on a thick, cream-toned paper with the BFK [Rives] France, watermark. Preface by Henry Smith. Bound in reddish-brown cloth with title & design of thick lines, gilt across spine, and across the front cover (scan shows spine & front cover). With a glassine paper wraparound (not shown in the scan; this shows some slight, age-related tanning, chipping to top spine edge, some splits to edges of this early, and likely, original glassine paper wraparound/dustjacket); spine of book shows slight fading to gilt; lower deckled-edge of p. 29 shows a small crease, tiny splits to paper, that might be a manufacturing flaw, else, in fine condition. Scarce & fairly early Faulkner item. "The publication of Miss Zilphia Gant by The Book Club of Texas is appropriate. Faulkner's work is so closely identified with the South that it seems almost out of place on an Eastern publisher's list. And he found an early recognition and critical appraisal in the Dallas News book page, the editor of which, John H. McGinnis, has some claim to be the reviewer who first appreciated the significance of Faulkner as new force in American fiction. A glance at some of the reviews of Faulkner's work will reveal that he has not always been so fortunate in his critics. Henry Smith. Dallas, May, 1932". (From the Preface, p. xi). 1100 gr.         Even God Failed: A Story Of Revenge (Unpublished Original Manuscript Novel 1932)

1932 - An unpublished novel (original typed manuscript) written in 1932. The manuscript contains 308 single-sided typed sheets each measuring 8-1/2" by 11" (the first page contains two quotes - one from Edward Young and one from John Milton; dedication page "To My Mother Who, in her life, knew old 'Judge Fairchild"; Introduction "Purely Personal" typed in "New York City, 1932"; and Chapters 1 through 21 comprising 305 double-spaced typewritten pages). From the author's Introduction ("Purely Personal"): "No - this is not a religious story as you might imagine. It is only a yarn about poor, sensitive moderns. The characters, who stalk through these pages, are composite creations of those souls drawn out from the memories of crowded hours. All are capable of having existed and, it is not improbable, that they would have done and said similar things if they had all been caught in such a whirlpool of human emotions." Throughout the pages are the author's typographical corrections and the occasional textual revision written in pen. The manuscript contains two hole punches to the upper edges, not affecting the text, and two hole punches to the left edge area where the manuscript is bound in a front and rear removable sturdy black paper binder with metal strips. To the front cover is the title and author sticker. Condition: the pages are understandably, but lightly, age-yellowed but are otherwise in excellent condition. The exterior black binding is worn (rear corner chip; 6" closed tear to the front cover; the title and author sticker to the front cover shows periodic small edge chips). According to the Internet Movie Database, Colby Harriman was the (uncredited) Director of Presentation of the 1925 movie classic "The Lost World." [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

        Eigenh. Brief mit U. ("Lersch").

Bodendorf an der Ahr, 7. VII. 1932. - 1¼ SS. auf Doppelblatt. Gr.-8vo. Vgl. Kosch I, 911.
