The sport is infrequently called "hard rackets," possibly to distinguish it from the related sport of squash (formerly called "squash rackets"). Both authors were rackets champions and the recipient, George Standing, was the head professional at the New York Racket and Tennis Club, and was runner-up for the World Championship in 1897. .

Methuen & Co. Ltd. London. 1926. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. Illustrated throughout with wonderful line drawings by E. H. Shepard. Decorative map endpapers. Very light offsetting to the decorative endpapers, as usual but overall this is a near fine, clean, bright copy in the publishers original dark green cloth, decorated and lettered in Gilt. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. A bit of bumping to the corners but generally a better than average copy of the book in a good example of the scarce original dustwrapper which has some chipping to the top and bottom of the spine, which is quite heavily darkened.

400g.         [Woman washing her hair.]

New York. unbound. Woodcut. Signed in pen. Image measures 7 1/4 x 5 3/4". Sheet measures 10 1/2 x 8 1/2". Matted with archival corners. This print by Rockwell Kent depicts a young woman washing her hair at the shore of a lake. Part of the woman's reflection appears in the lake at the bottom, and the background is lush with stylized foliage. The print, created circa 1926, appeared in Kent's 1933 "Rockwellkentiana" (p. 37). It is in excellent condition with a French matting and wide margins. It has been professionally matted with archival corners. Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) was an American realist painter from Tarrytown, New York. Kent spent his life in a variety of places, including Maine, Newfoundland, Alaska, Greenland, and South America. His paintings, lithographs, and woodcuts often portray aspects of a life lived in nature and are collected today by major museums throughout the country. Kent was also a prolific writer and illustrator who produced several books. This print is a lovely example of his work.
