Autograph Letter, Signed, to Amelia Ely Howe, wife of Dr. Walter C. Howe (April, 1926), about Harvey Cushing's book The Life of Sir William Osler. With Envelope addressed by Harvey Cushing.

1926. 1926 - Very Good. Letterhead: Dr. Harvey Cushing/ The Peter Bent Brigham Hospital/ Boston. Dear Mrs. Howe: That was surely a long read for you but I am glad you have survived and that you can commend the book. I think, too, that the Oxford period is the best part of it. I was only beginning to learn how to do it and if I had had another five years to spare I might have been able to squeeze it into much smaller compass. I appreciate your note greatly. Sincerely, Harvey Cushing. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

Jahrhunderts, Anni Albers.

Impressive 1926 Central Committee-approved bust of the Russian revolutionary

Moscow, Russia, 1926. 24.25" x 15.5" x12". "Original bronze bust of Lenin, done by well-known sculptor Sergei Merkurov. Bust measures 24.25˝ tall, 15.5˝ wide, and 12˝ deep, weighs approximately 150 pounds, and was cast from metal taken from church bells. This particular statue was made at the Gosizdat factory in Moscow in 1926, a short time after Lenin’s death, was and approved by the Central Committee of the USSR. Impressed on the reverse of the bust, in Russian, is “GIZ Factory Moscow 1926, No. 17,” indicating it was cast in 1926 at the State Publishing House Factory based on Model 17. In fine condition, with an untouched patina. Accompanied by a translated expert conclusion from Victor Kuznetsoff at the State Historical Museum in Russia, as well as an original description in Russian from the original owner of the bust, a Russian expatriate. Offered together with Nikita Khrushchev, Typed Letter Signed, ""N. Khrushchev,"" as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Ukraine, 1 page, 8"" x 11.25"", [Kiev], January 18, 1948 in Russian to The Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine concerning the 24th anniversary of the death of Lenin. Additionally dated in Khrushchev's hand. File holes and minor losses along left margin do not affect text, contemporary ink stamps and notations, light creases, else very good.Sergei Merkurov (1881-1952), was a renowned sculptor and monumentalist, whose works include the three largest Stalin monuments in the country, as well as the larger statue of Lenin which resided for decades in Red Square. This impressive bust was made from church bells (bronze with silver added) removed during the Bolshevik’s anti-religious campaign in 1922, which saw the destruction of thousands of churches and the deaths of tens of thousands of citizens. A very rare relic from the former communist country, where their leaders were idolized in impressive fashion. Oversized.Khrushchev's letter, which accompanies the bust reads, in full (translated): ""During the performance of mass political work in line with the 24th anniversary of the date of death of Vladimir Ilich Lenin, the Central Committee (CC) of the CP(b)U proposes that the resolution of the CC of the VKP(b) dated January 17, 1948, be followed, paragraphs 1, 2, 4, and 5 of which we are sending you."""

Mosvka: Akts. Izdat. O-vo "Ogonek", 1926 [but 1927]. First Thus. First Russian edition (abridged) of Charlie Chaplin's memoir My Trip Abroad (1922), recounting the Hollywood actor's return to his native England and travels through Europe after 10 years in the United States. Describes the (by then) universally recognized movie star's shock at seeing the enormous changes taking place in post-WWI Europe--among the fan letters he received during his first days in England were cards containing a white feather, symbolizing Chaplin's abscence from service during the War. The first edition also coincided with the FBI opening its first inquiry into whether Chaplin was a Bolshevist. (See Michael North, Reading 1922: A Return to the Scene of the Modern.) NYPL and Stanford only in OCLC as of April, 2015. 12mo (14.75cm.); original white photographically illustrated staplebound wrappers; 68,[4](ads)pp.; illus. publisher's ads printed inside wrappers. Some light wear from handling, textblock uniformly toned and rather brittle due to poor paperstock, else Very Good. "Biblioteka 'Ogonek'" no. 195. Title page imprint gives the date 1926; upper cover dated 1927.

1926 1926 - 1.-3. årg. i 11 hefter. (Det udkomne). Kbhvn. 1926-28. Rigt illustr. 4to Omslag svagt nusset.

- Breitrandiges unbeschnittenes Exemplar. Sprache: Deutsch 47 x 31, OPpbd mit OSchutzumschlag in OLwd-Schuber mit Titelschild,
