        Teils schneebedeckte Gebirgslandschaft mit See.

      - Aquarell und Feder in Schwarz, um 1926/1928, auf chamoisfarbenem Velin, auf Karton aufgezogen, rechts unten monogrammiert „HB. (ligiert) ". 13,2:20 cm. Hansl Bock war Tochter der Blumen- und Landschaftsmalerin Johanna H. Merre (1867-1940), die seit 1911 in zweiter Ehe mit dem Maler Franz Hienl-Merre (1869-1943) verheiratet war. Durch ihren Stiefvater bekam sie Zugang zum „Scholle-Kreis". Künstlerisch war sie ausgebildet durch ihren Ehemann L. Bock (1886-1971) und Schülerin von J. Seyler (1873-1958). Studienreisen führten sie nach Italien und Spanien. Längere Aufenthalte führten sie nach Straßburg und Paris, wo sie ein Atelier hatte. Nach 1935 hatte sie keine Ausstellung mehr und wird heute der „Verschollenen Generation" zugerechnet. Bevorzugte Themen waren Landschaften, Stilleben und figurative Darstellungen. Als Mitglied der Vereinigung der „Juryfreien" beteiligte sie sich an den Ausstellungen im Münchner Glaspalast.

      Frederick Etchells & Hugh MacDonald, 'The Haslewood Books' series, London 1926 - First edition, of which 450 numbered copies were produced (this being #263). 4to. 79pp. Gilt lettered and decorated cloth. Printed at the Curwen Press on J.W.Zanders hand-made paper with the copper plates subsequently destroyed. With a four-page introduction by Bernard Windeler, who also provides a short introduction to each plate and hand-coloured most of the engravings. Fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. Some fading to the publisher's orange cloth at the upper and lower boards and with a short crease to the head of the backstrip. A tiny touch of non-invasive spotting to pastedowns and to occasional leaves. A very good copy of a superb production. No dust wrapper, as issued, but lacking the slipcase.       Paris, Nouvelle Revue Française, 1926 21,7 x 16,8 cm, broché, couverture imprimée, 151 pp., 1 f. n. ch. Édition originale collective contenant de nombreux poèmes inédits. L'un des 109 exemplaires numérotés réimposés in-4 Tellière, sur papier vergé Lafuma-Navarre (premier papier), le nôtre nominatif imprimé pour Maurice Heine. Parfait état. Né fort riche, Maurice Heine (1884-1949), suivit des études de médecine, profession qu'il n'exercera pas, préférant donner des articles à des revues scientifiques et théoriser sur la psychopathologie sexuelle. Engagé politiquement, il rejoignit le parti Socialiste, on lui doit la motion ultra-gauchiste (Heine/Leroy) au Congrès de Tours de 1920 qui mena à la création du parti communiste français; quatre années plus tard, lors de son exclusion du Parti Communiste il vida dans le plafond le chargeur de son revolver. Il collaborera à plusieurs revues littéraires, notamment La Nouvelle Revue Française, Minotaure, Hippocrate, participera aux publications surréalistes et fut co-fondateur, aux côtés de Georges Bataille, du groupe Contre-Attaque. C'est aussi, et surtout, Le redécouvreur et l'éditeur de l'oeuvre du marquis de Sade. Belle provenance, pour ce livre capital de Paul Éluard.

        The Original Charleston. Musique de Cecil Mack et Jimmy Johnson dansé par Joséphine Baker dans l'Hyper-Revue des Folies Bergère "La Folie du Jour" .

      Editions Francis Salabert, Paris - Quarto Original bifolium sheet music with pictorial covers, loosely inserted singlesheet, letterpress recto only. A little rubbed externally, with a soft diagonal crease through the front cover, but overall a very good example. Uncommon, just 3 copies listed by Worldcat (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, Biblioteca Comunale di Trento, Zentralbibliothek Zurich). In 1926 Baker left the Revue Negre to join the Folies Bergère and her success became a sensation. The Charleston formed the finale of a frenetic show, the critic André Rouverge writing in the Mercure de France that "the Charleston, as danced à la Baker, fairly boils over with diabolic intensity". This score features a blissful dancing La Baker by R. de Valerio on the cover, and loosely inserted is a singlesheet "Théorie du Charleston" by Pradère-Niquet, Professeur de l'Académie Baraduc, giving detailed instructions for the dance.

Loosely inserted is a typed postcard-size letter from the author's husband Phillipp C. Visser in Simla, 24th April, 1930.Jenny Visser-Hooft accompanied all four of the Netherlands expeditions to the Karakorum, led by her husband Phillipp Visser. This, the 2nd, explored the Batura, Hispar and Shimshal glaciers. The card with this copy was written by Phillipp Visser in his capacity as Consular General for the Netherlands. He writes: "Dear Begum, Just returning from a long official journey through Netherland India. I found your letter of December 8th, which did not reach me in Java and so was sent back from their [sic] to British India. As I did not take the negatives with me (leaving them behind in Calcutta for developing), I could not fulfil my promise earlier. I hope you will forgive me! Hereby enclosed the photo's I took in Paliala [?Patiala]. I think they are rather good. I hope you are well. With kindest regards, I remain Yours sincerely, Ph, C. Visser." The photographs mentioned are no longer present.

Top edge gilt. All the gilt, on the boards spine and top edge, is still very bright. The dark green cloth is fine and fresh. Pages look unread. A beautiful copy in original illustrated, better than very good dustwrapper which has uniform and fairly minor darkening all over but is still a bright, fresh example with just two tiny nicks to the top of the spine. Overall a near fine copy of the book in a very good dustwrapper. Uncommon in such nice condition.

Première édition illustrée de ce recueil de poésies. L'idée de l'ouvrage partit d'un petit poème intitulé Chanson d'un serpent que Valéry avait écrit à son ami Pierre Louÿs en manière de plaisanterie : la Tentation du point de vue du Serpent.Les poèmes sont ornés de 15 lithographies originales de Jean Marchand - il avait aussi illustré Le Cimetière marin - et de 24 bandeaux et 7 culs-de-lampe dessinés et gravés au canif par l'artiste polonaise Sonia Lewitska.Tirage à 231 exemplaires tous signés par l'auteur et l'éditeur, celui-ci (n°127) sur Hollande Van Gelder avec deux suites dont une en couleurs. Soucieux de montrer un éventail le plus large possible de l'inspiration de l'artiste, " le poème du Serpent ayant inspiré plus de compositions à l'artiste que celui-ci n'en prévoyait à l'origine ", l'éditeur choisit d'offrir aux bibliophiles " les essais et les variantes au lieu des suites habituelles ". Chacune des deux suites reproduit donc des gravures présentant parfois des différences notables avec le dessin définitif, ainsi que quelques croquis abandonnés n'apparaissant pas dans le corps de l'ouvrage. Huit feuillets rassemblent les bandeaux et culs-de-lampe.

      Boni and Liveright, New York 1926 - Early edition of Darrow's fictionalized memoir of his Ohio boyhood, first published by McClurg in 1904. Though it went throught seven editions, the book was never a commercial success, which pained Darrow, who felt it was his finest book. Burgess and Constance Johnson were notable authors. Burgess was a humorist and author of light verse who, among other things, published a study of profanity with a foreword by H.L. Das fehlende erste Vorsatzblatt wurde durch ein Büttenpapierblatt der Zeit ersetzt, zweites Vorsatzblatt mit 4-zeiliger Widmung vom 18. August 1928, Titelblatt mit farbig koloriertem ganzseitigem Holzschnitt, 22 Büttenpapierseiten mit Text und drei farbig kolorierten ganzseitigen Holzschnitten von Walter Klöckner, ein Holzschnitt mit der Signatur "W" im Druckstock. Das hintere fehlende Blatt mit dem Impressum wurde durch eine Kopie auf Büttenpapier ersetzt. Rundumgoldschnitt. Buchgröße: 15,2 x 16,8 cm. Eins von 100 Exemplaren. - - - Rares Exemplar des Künstlers Walter Klöckner, der 1929 Leiter einer der Kölner Werkschulklassen war. Die Kölner Werkschulen sind Nachfolger der Kunstgewerbe- und Handwerkerschule der Stadt Köln, die in der zweiten Hälfte der 20er Jahre des vergangenen Jahrhunderts umbenannt wurde. Es existiert weltweit nur noch ein weiteres Exemplar in der Universität- und Stadtbibliothek Köln. Zum Zeitpunkt des Druckes war Geheimrat Richard Riemerschmid Rektor der Kölner Werkschulen. Sein Vorgänger war der Architekt Prof. Martin Elsaesser. Das Impressum des Kölner Exemplar vermerkt: "Von diesem Büchlein wurden 100 numerierte Exemplare in der Buchdruckerwerkstatt der Kunstgewerbe- und Handwerkerschule der Stadt Köln mit Benutzung der von Walter Klöckner geschnittenen Holzstöcke gedruckt. Die von Walter Klöckner handkolorierten Exemplare wurden in der Buchbinderwerkstatt der Schule in Pergament handgebunden.". Die Holzschnitte sind ein Abbild des expressionistischen Ausdruckes der Zeit.

Il débute par du portrait-charge mais peint aussi des assiettes, décors et costumes de théâtre. Il illustre Alexandre, Arnoux, Courteline et publie quelques albums pour enfants et « Célébrités du café-concert ». Il est membre des Humoristes et expose à l'Araignée, aux Indépendants et dans des salons de peintures. Il travailla pour de nombreux journaux tels que La Vie Parisienne, Le Frou-frou, le Canard Enchaîné, La Gazette du Bon Ton, Marianne ou encore Le Petit Parisien (Dico-solo page 236). Un clown est assis sur une chaise, et semble perdu dans ses pensées. Il porte un costume noir, avec un col et un chapeau rouge ainsi qu'un masque blanc. Les tons sont gris, le col et le chapeau rouge mettent néanmoins une touche de couleur dans cette aquarelle. Infime griffure.

Un couple d'équilibristes réalise des figures de haut-vol sous un chapiteau de cirque et l'athète féminin se confie à son partenaire "Je l'ai pourtant déjà dit, j'ai horreur qu'on me regarde en dessous ...", mention portée manuscritement, à la mine de plomb, dans la partie inférieure. Petites taches, griffures et déchirures marginales n'affectant pas le dessin. Repères, marques et mentions d'imprimeur.

Modern rebinding of quarter leather and cloth boards, spine title label, with the front stiff cardcover retained and the front of the pictorial dustwrapper (with the laid-down image of the Lachlan River, Tasmania) laid upon it. Slight offsetting on the half-title and light pale spotting to top edges, otherwise clean and crisp. Formerly the copy of Les Bridges, of the Hobart sporting goods (and fishing equipment) retailer Bridges Brothers, with the shop's ink stamp on the half-title and owner's name and address written in the head margins of the half-title and four other pages (just to be sure); another owner's name on the (new) front endpaper. A very good rebound copy, with an interesting association. .
