Schlegel, H. [Herman]
1926. Leyden [Leiden]: D. Noothoven Van Goor Although there is no date on the title page, Zimmer (1926) indicates that this edition was published in 1859 following the original work issued in 45 parts from 1854-58. In addition the original text and plates, Schlegel added a foreword to this edition dated December 24, 1858. 699 pages and errata, plus 362 plates originally issued in two separate volumes, though now excised and housed in a slipcase. All 362 plates are hand-colored lithographs and have been collated to be complete. Text volume has been rebound in the late 20th century with cloth spine covers and faux marbled paper over boards. The original text on the spine of the text volume has been clipped and affixed to the spine over the new binding. The plates are housed in a slipcase, likely made at the same time the text was rebound. The brown cloth of the slipcase is covered with marbled paper from the original volumes and has the spine cover with gilt text affixed to its back cover. The text volume remains tight and clean. A few of the first leaves show small tears along bound edge. There is just a little light foxing and darkening of some leaves. The plate images all remain bright and crisp. The paper shows some darkening and light foxing. Penciled plate numbers are seen in upper corners of recto and verso of each plate. A few plates with male and female examples, are marked with a penciled symbol to the side indicating sex. There is a little penciled marginalia in the text volume and a few of the plates have penciled notations on verso. An older typed … [Click Below for Full Description]

Serait un partenaire idéal pour notre 1er numéro When We Were Very Young, disponible dans notre magasin. FORESTER C S
London: Bodley Head, 1926. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First Export Edition. A VG+ copy with a few small marks to the cloth, light rubbing to the spine ends and a small previous owner’s book-plate to the front free end-paper. The D/W has benefitted from some skilled restoration to a few old pieces of clear tape to the exterior spine folds and to the bottom 2 ½ inches of the spine (including replacement of THE BODLEY HEAD). The D/W has no price to the spine suggesting that it was an export issue. To prove the first edition status of the D/W a black-and-white photocopy of the one in the British Library is included (which is identical) together with a before-and-after colour picture which clearly shows the extent of the restoration that has been undertaken. The D/W now shows as a near fine (or better) example. Rare. Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone [Attributes: First Edition; In Dust Jacket]

Milne, A A ; Shepard, E H
London: Methuen, 1926. First edition. About fine in very good plus jacket.. First printing of the first book of Pooh prose stories, in which Christopher Robin's bear first becomes Winnie the Pooh. In Milne's first book of children's verse, WHEN WE WERE VERY YOUNG (1924), the silly old bear appears in only a couple poems and does not yet have a name. After that book's smashing success, Milne was encouraged by his wife to write down some of the bedtime stories he made up for his son about his favorite toys. Here we get many of the best loved stories from the Hundred Acre Wood: Piglet meets a Heffalump, Eeyore has a birthday, and Pooh runs out of honey. Timeless.

Fitzgerald, F Scott
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1926. First printing. Fine.. First edition, a beautiful copy with college humor-laced provenance from the year of publication. Fitzgerald's third collection of short stories, this book followed directly in the wake of GATSBY's success. The stories themselves, including "Absolution" and "The Rich Boy, " were composed both before and after GATSBY, taking on similar themes, and building a larger conversation with the beloved novel. Copies rarely survive in as beautiful shape as this one, but the additional provenance feels particularly apt: it was gifted to sorority member Charlotte Cooper at Syracuse University's Alpha Phi House. The giver has not only inscribed the book, but added a joke about venereal disease into the jacket design: "ALL THE SAD YOUNG MEN [printed] / because of Croupy Coop [manuscript]." A tremendously fitting Jazz-Age provenance with an otherwise pristine copy.

Hollywood couple Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks were in USSR in 1927. It is known that they were in USSR but it is less known that they appeared in a 1927 film made and set in Stalin-era USSR. Pickford never knew they were in the film until many years later. Her final scene, in which she embraces and kisses the Soviet leading man, actually lends the movie its title: A Kiss From Mary Pickford.

Henry Green
J.M. Dent & Sons Ltd., London, 1926. First Edition. 8vo. vii. 254pp. + 8pp. ads. Bound in the original blue cloth with blind-stamped publisher device on the front board. Blue top stain. Housed in a one quarter leather over cloth slipcase with gilt titling and date. Signed by the author with inscription on the endpaper: `For James Hanley from Henry Green 11/7/31.` Green and Hanley shared an undeserved obscurity within English modernist literature, as well as a deep mutual admiration for each other`s work. Green put forth Hanley as superior to Conrad. The novelist and critic Harold Heslop, while lamenting the state of British literature, was relieved by the emergence of what he called a `new school of writers` of `proletarian stock.` Christopher Isherwood would call Green`s second novel Living, `the best proletarian novel ever written` and V.S. Pritchett would place him in `the mad tradition in English literature - Sterne, Carroll, Firbank, and Mrs. Woolf.` An important association. The book with shelf rubbing along the edges and corners, spine somewhat toned, top edge lightly rubbed, the endpapers with peculiar light violet off-setting of some kind though unobtrusive, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text is clean and unmarked, and the boards remain colorful and distinct. The slipcase with several light scuffs. As pictured. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Cette suite de 15 eaux-fortes en noir provient du tirage à 250 exemplaires sur vélin blanc de Montgolfier. Simon and Schuster, 1926. Rare Signed First Edition THOMAS EDISON "A Million and One Nights" Limited Edition. A Million and One Nights Book Set: A History of the Motion Picture "The first endeavor to set down the whole and true story of the motion picture." LIMITED EDITION, one of only 327 copies SIGNED BY THOMAS EDISON AND AUTHOR TERRY RAMSAYE. The classic early history of cinema, written by film journalist, historian and editor of the Motion Picture Herald, Terry Ramsaye. Ramsaye devotes much of his history to Thomas Edison, specifically Edison's "kinetograph" camera and his "Black Maria", the rotating structure Edison had built in West Orange, New Jersey, considered by many to be the first commercial motion picture studio (the building was designed to rotate so that it could be constantly aligned with the the sun). Ramsaye also examines the impact of such film innovators as Muybridge, Edwin S. Porter, Melies and Griffith--up through his contemporaries, including David O. Selznick and Charlie Chaplin. Illustrated with graphs, tables and 102 crisp photographs. This copy also includes some wonderful ephemera: A 1 pg. TLS from author Terry Ramsaye to noted collector P.K. Thomajan, 1 pg. TLS from Will Hayes, the legendary (and perhaps infamous) President of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) and arbiter of "good" taste and "decency" in Hollywood and, lastly, a very rare 1 pg. leaflet announcing the Boston premiere of "Birth of a Nation" at the Tremont Theatre on August 9th, 1915. A A Milne
London: Methuen & Co. Facsimile. Printed by Methuen in Great Britian and published in 1926. This is a genuine 1st edition, 1st printing, with only one date "First Published in 1926" appearing in the book. There were 5,500 first editions, first printings of this book, with only ~3,500 known to still be in existence today, and there are not many left in such a fine condition as this one. There is a charming inscription which reads "Valda, with love from Aunt Phoebe, Dec. 25th, 1926" which means it was given by Aunt Phoebe to her niece Valda for Christmas in 1926. The book is for high-end collectors who are willing to pay for 1st edition classic books in lovely condition like this one. Great chance to purchase a 1st edition, 1st printing of WINNIE THE POOH - one of the classics of children's literature. This is a clean book which is in great shape with no writing, marks or tears on any pages in it other than the inscription. **A beautiful book which would make a lovely gift for someone truly special**.
