Smith, Jessie Willcox)
Philadelphia Welfare Federation; Philadelphia; ND (but 1925); Cardboard poster (22" X 14"). VG+. First and only printing.Yellow background printed on heavy cardboard, with large JW Smith circular image at the top (12" in diameter) and information regarding the agencies supported by the Welfare Federation listed at the bottom. Also notes : "Unaided by Federal or State funds - THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY - November 12 to November 28". This poster is pictured on page 163 of Nudelman, with a full description on the following page. For a poster intended for window or other display, this is in remarkably good condition. The poster is complete with no chips or surface scratches, and the printed portion of the poster (i.e. excluding the 1/2" margin on each side) is relatively clean. The white border does show some light to medium browning in various places (most noticeable upper and lower RH corners) that resembles the effects of some prior contact with dampness or water, but it really doesn't extend onto the printed portion except for some faint and not objectionable tanning along portions of the LH side.Since the picture in Nudelman of this poster not only shows some edge browning, but some corner dings and chips, this is in as good if not better condition than that example, and thus as good as any dedicated Jessie Willcox Smith collector (or Philadelphia area collector) can expect to find. This has to be an extremely rare poster given the ephemeral nature of all posters like this as well as its clearly localized short-term content (highlighting a short 2 week period limited solel … [Click Below for Full Description]

Florence:: R. Lier & Co., 1925., 1925. 8vo. 98, [2] pp. 27 illus. Quarter beige brown-stamped cloth over grey paper; library markings. Very good. Facsimile edition. Annotations by Harvey Cushing (1869-1939) and Edward Clark Streeter (1874-1947). "The first book in which each muscle was illustrated separately, with copper-plates of the bones and muscles of the upper limb from drawings by Girolamo da Carpi, which in realism and exactitude surpassed anything between Leonardo and Vesalius. But having seen the woodcuts in Vesalius's Fabrica, the high-minded Ferrarese is said to have deliberately "suppressed his own book, and only 11 copies are now extant" (A. C. Klebs). This work was reprinted in facsimile in Florence, 1925, edited by Harvey Cushing and Edward Clark Streeter." - Garrison and Morton 373. Cushing Bibliography, 243.

Papers on the history and culture of China presented before the American Women's Club in Shanghai during the 1923 and 1924-25 seasons. Most of the presentations were by club members. The club, a social and philanthropic organization for American (and other) expatriate women in China, is still active today. While Western interpretations of China written by men in the early 20th century are common, the view of women are rather scarce. This is one of a series of anthologies on Chinese history published by the club in the 1920s. OCLC records 8 copies, under three different entries, six in the US libraries. First edition. A near fine to fine copy in original printed wrappers string-bound into printed boards, as issued.

Casteret Norbert 1897 1987
[Attributes: Signed Copy]
