Lot of 15 Albums and Programs from Folies-Bergere and the Paris Music Hall scene, including: La Revue des Folies Bergers, Premier - Septieme Albums; La Revue d'Amour; Premier Album de Souvenirs des Music Halls de Paris; Casino de Paris; Paris-Beautes; Bal du Moulin Rouge; Montmartre; etc

Paris: Editions Artistiques de Paris. ca. 1925-1935. Paperback. Very Good. Softcover quartos, each printed in color with truly incredible photographs and illustrations from the beginning of the Paul Derval era, which featured his infamous "small nude women" in elaborate costuming. Several of the volumes prominently feature Josephine Baker, whose banana skirt and strip tease routine caused a sensation amidst the Parisian fascination with negritude in the 1920s. Though Baker's success did not extend to the Unites States, she was the first African American female to star in a major motion picture,' Zouzou', to integrate an American concert hall, and to become a world-famous entertainer. The programs are all in very good or better condition, several with charming die-cut cover windows, others housed in original glassine. As evidenced by the photographs, these are truly exquisite items from the peak of Paris Music Halls and 20s glamour. Lot includes: La Revue des Folies Bergere- Premier, Second, Troisieme, Quatrieme, Cinquieme, Sixieme, and Septieme Albums (1923-1929); Paris- Beautes au Music-Hall (c. 1926) & Paris Beautes Deuxieme Album (1927); Premier Album de Souvenirs des Music Halls de Paris (c. 1925); Folies Bergeres: La Revue d'Amour (1933); Bal du Moulin Rouge (c. 1920); Tout Paris au Casino de Paris (c. 1928); Montmartre (ca. 1926).

The Exposition Internationale des Arts Dcoratifs et Industriels Modernes was a World's fair held in Paris, France from April to October 1925. The term Art Deco was derived by shortening the words Arts Dcoratifs in the title of this exposition. Artistic creation in the annes folles in France is marked by this event, when on this occasion many ideas of the international avant-garde in the fields of architecture and applied arts were brought together. Condition: Unbound. There is mild wear to the extremities, including mild bumping. Internally the pages are clean, with very slight browning to the page edges, and the very occasional handling mark. Overall the condition is fair due to missing plates, but otherwise very good indeed..

In-8 p. e in-8 gr., bross. e cartonato edit. In altre parole, dare un rilievo all?elemento ?visuale?, in modo assolutamente unico.

Hollis & Jamaica Estates: Vol. 7 of 29 Atlases of Insurance Maps for Queens

Sanborn Map Company New York: Sanborn Map Company, 1925. hardcover. very good(-). Atlas. Lithograph with original hand coloring. Massive elephant folio. Decorative calligraphic titles, indices, and key maps. Contains a set of 90 maps along with changes recorded on paste-on correction slips through 1974. Quarter leather binding with gilt title on front and spine. This volume includes part of South Jamaica, the Long Island Railroad split of the Main Line and the Montauk Line, and a Queens neighborhood reference inset. The Sanborn map collection consists of a uniform series of large scale maps, dating from 1867 to the present depicting the commercial, industrial, and residential sections of some twelve thousand cities and towns in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The maps were designed to assist fire insurance agents in determining the degree of hazard associated with a particular property and therefore show the size, shape and construction of dwellings, commercial buildings, and factories as well as fire walls locations of windows and doors, sprinkler systems, and types of roofs. The maps also indicate widths and names of streets, property boundaries, building use, and house and block numbers. They show locations of water mains, giving their dimensions, and of fire alarm boxes and hydrants. Sanborn maps are an unrivaled source of information about the structure and use of buildings in American Cities. The collection includes some fifty thousand editions of fire insurance maps comprising an estimated seven hundred thousand individual sheets. The Library of Congress holdings represent the largest extant collection of maps produced by the Sanborn Map Company. The majority of the maps were acquired by the Library through copyright deposit, but the collection was substantially enriched in 1967 when the Bureau of the Census transferred to the Library of Congress a complete set. The 1,899 loose-leaf binders were particularly noteworthy because they included later editions than those previously acquired by the Library. The Bureau of the Census set of maps had been regularly updated by printed, paste-on corrections supplied by the Sanborn Map Company, whereas the Library of Congress copies were retained in the form in which they were copyrighted.

        Der Prozess. Roman.

Berlin, Die Schmiede, 1925. Bound with the original printed wrappers (the original paper-binding), also the spine as well as the front part of the scarce original dust-jacket, in a very elegant private browninsh-black morocco binding in avantgarde 20'ies-style, with a circle of emerald green calf as title-label, with gilt title, to spine, the calf-circle continuing on to both boards, and a circle of bright red calf as author-lable, with author in gold, overlapping the lover part of the title-circle and also continuing on to both boards. Gilt super ex-libris to inside of front board. Binding signed in gold to inside of back board: Henning Jensen, gilding by Hagel Olsen. The original striped paper wrappers in wood-like pattern, with the blue and red title-label to front and cream and red title-label to spine, have been mounted. The remains of the original dust-jacket that has also been bound in, is slightly shaved at top and bottom and has been strengthened at the fore-edge. Internally very fine and clean. Fore- and bottom-edges uncut, top-edge stained blue (original staining).. First edition of Kafka's posthumously published magnum opus, his monumental work "The Trial", which counts as one of the most important works of fiction of the 20th century. "In December (of 1914) Kafka finished - once more, one hesitates to use this misleading word, for it never was difinitely completed - his second novel, "Der Prozess"/"The Trial". It was first published - again posthumpusly, again in an incomplete form and edited by Max Brod - in 1925, the year after Kafka's death. It is perhaps this novel which is most associated in the minds of the reading public with the notion of "Kafkaesque" (though the adjective is used liberally by those who have never read Kafka's work) for it begins with an arbitrary and meaningless arrest, and takes its protagonist through an intricate labyrinth of futile protocols. There is a clear connection between Kafka's state of mind when he began this novel and its content." (Murray, "Kafka", pp. 225-26)
