Der Meister. Jungdeutsche Monatsschrift für Führer und denkende Brüder. Jge. 1-8 (=alle Jahrgänge, 2 Hefte fehlen). // Jungdeutsche Blätter. 8. Jahrgang, Hefte 1-3 + Sonderheft (=alles Erschienene) // Nachbarschaft. Monatsschrift. Jge. 8-9 (=alles).

Berlin (Jungdeutscher Verlag / Nachbarschafts-Verlag) 1925-35.. Kartoniert .. Zeitschriften des "Jungdeutschen Ordens". Zusammen 111 Hefte.

        The Professor's House

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1925. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1925 First edition, limited issue. One of 185 (225 total) numbered copies signed by the author. Publisher's green cloth over white pictorial laid paper boards, with a pink paper label lettered in black to the spine, floral patterns to the boards in blue, green, and pink, printed on laid paper. A near fine or better copy, with some light wear to the extremities, minor toning to the spine, former owner's bookplate to the front pastedown, otherwise bright and fresh pages. An excellent copy. Crane A14. The Professor's House is an autobiographical novel divided into three sections: "Book I: The Family," "Book II: Tom Outland's Story," and "Book III: The Professor." The plot follows the fictional Professor Godfrey St. Peter, who is struggling with a mid-life crisis after the marriage of his two daughters and the death of his friend Tom Outland, who was a casualty in World War I. Interestingly, Cather first wrote the middle section as a short story and subsequently situated it within a separate story she was developing about the professor. Accordingly, the first and last sections take place in the novel's present-day, while the central section is comprised of a retrospective narrative. Like F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, The Professor's House captures the moral decline and dejection of the Lost Generation in the wake of WWI.. Signed by Author. Limited. Hard Cover. Near Fine.

        Tri Legendy O Krucifixu

nbsp;Nakladem - Ceske Graficke Unie, 1925. nbsp;Nakladem - Ceske Graficke Unie, 1925 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. An extremely scarce work comprising of religiously themed short stories all linked to Jesus Christ. Written in Czech. Featuring three beautiful illustrated plates. Collated presumed complete. As the title suggests, thecommon element linking all three separate legends is the crucifix - a cross with the crucified Jesus Christ. A common feature is also the fate of the main characters, and their battle with their conscience and faith. What differs is theunderlying themes of ethnic background, religion, and social status. Each legend shows the different ways people put their faith in God. Zeyer's prose and poems are restless, nostalgic, mystical, depressive, and usually end tragically. His novels describe characters trying to live a better life under the romantic ideals, and people who find peace only at the moment of death. Condition: In a crushed morocco binding with gilt motif to both boards. Externally, sound with light marks to the front board, and minor shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are extremely bright and generally clean, aside from light offsetting from plates and binding. Previous owners bookplate to the front pastedown. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED..

        The Great Gatsby

New York: Scribner?s, 1925. New York: Scribner?s, 1925. First Edition; first printing. Aside from a tiny stain on the endpapers from a label or small bookplate, and very slight cocking, a fine copy in a first printing dust jacket with considerable restoration. Most significantly, about 30% of the spine is in facsimile, skillfully matched to the original. This jacket was recently restored, at least in part to undo a heavy-handed restoration from the distant past. Included with this copy is an extensive report from the conservationist detailing the work, materials and methods used. In a custom clamshell box.

        THE GREAT GATSBY

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1925. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1925. First Edition. Good. First issue, with the four main issue points present: 1) pg. 60, line 16 "chatter" 2) pg. 119, line 22 "northern" 3) pg. 205, lines 9-10 "sick in tired" 4) pg. 211, lines 7-8 "Union Street station." This copy Good only, on account of replaced endpapers in the front. It seems logical to conclude that this copy is ex-library, although no other marks are present and the book is otherwise in excellent condition. A budget copy for someone who doesn't want to spend three or four thousand on a nice copy or plans to rebind it. Despite its grand stature today, the book was a commercial failure during Fitzgerald's lifetime, much to the author's surprise and disappointment. Fitzgerald had felt the power of the novel and believed that it was a work of mature artistry. Modern scholars and readers agree and now "Gatsby" is a keystone of any modern first collection. Good.

First quire in Volume I slightly pulled and with minor tear, slight wear at ends of spine, lower front and rear joint, lower corners of boards. Small closed tear at head of spine of Volume II. Light wear to ends of spine of Volume III. A very good set. First edition, first impression. The three volumes constituting practically all of Edgeworth's work in economic theory. "Edgeworth's contribution to economics left their mark on the theories of monopoly, foreign trade, taxation and production. In production theory, earlier authorities had generally employed the concept of an average product to demonstrate diminishing returns. It was Edgeworth who insisted on the distinction between the average and the marginal product and who understood the significance of the latter in connection with the identification of the maximum position" (Spiegal). "Edgeworth has always been regarded as an exceptionally distinguished 'all-rounder', making major contributions to both economic and statistical theory to a degree that no one else, with the possible exception of Harold Hotelling, has ever approached. Since 1960, however, serious reappraisal of the depth and subtlety of those contributions to each discipline has shown decisively that he was indeed one of the truly great economists of his time, and one of its greatest statisticians" (ODNB). With owner signature to front pastedown in all volumes.
