BARBIER, George.
Paris Meynial -26. First edition. 5 volumes. 8vo (25.2 x 17 cm). Each issue with colour vignette to title and 12 colour pochoir plates (60 in total), introductory text by Colette. Loose as issued in original coloured pictorial wrappers by Barbier, original glassine, housed in grey clamshell box with orange morocco lettering piece; glassine for 1922 partly perished. A complete set of this exquisite series displaying fashion in magnificent and imaginative illustrations. The series includes Barbier's depiction of the seven deadly sins (in the volume for 1925). Here one finds a great theme of the Western iconographical tradition at home in Barbier's special world. 'Anger' shows a modish couple quarelling in a formal garden; 'Envy' is displayed by a maid regarding her mistress as she steps from a Rolls Royce; and 'Gluttony' is depicted as a gourmandise. Falbalas et fanfreluches was the last of Barbier's books to reflect contemporary life. Its special value lies in the unique way in which it catches the tone and mood of les années vingts. Gaudriault p115. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Connett, Eugene V. III) Medina, Richard A. (Ed.)
published by the Class of 1912, n.p. 1922 - First Edition. Illustrated with drawings and photographs. 1 vols. 8vo. Eugene Connett, Factory Manager. Eugene V. Connett, III, (1891-1969) established and ran The Derrydale Press throughout its fifteen year existance 1926-1941, producing about 170 of the finest sporting books ever published in America, plus a series of superb sporting prints. At the time this 1912 Class Record was published, however, he was running the family hat factory, and was induced to write an article for the Record entitled "The Factory Manager" reflecting his thoughts (largely favorable) of being in such a job. In 1922 Scribner's published Connett's first book, Wing Shooting and Angling, and three years later he sold the hat business and turned, slowly, to publishing. It is interesting in view of his later career as the doyen of sporting publishers, that for the Record he wrote, "Suppose that I had the choice of occupation to make over again, what would I do? Well, it would be production of some kind; I like to work in a factory, to deal with workmen and see raw material turned into a finished product." It was production, indeed: the near-legendary output of The Derrydale Press. Original orange and black pictorial boards, spine lacking, internally fine Illustrated with drawings and photographs. 1 vols. 8vo [Attributes: First Edition]

Joyce, James
Paris: Shakespeare and Company, 1922. First Edition. 1st edition, 1st issue of 750 copies (the first ones on Feb. 2nd), before the 100 on Dutch paper (Feb. 13th) and the 150 on large paper (Mar. 4th). Original printed paper wrappers, rebacked, one corner, one edge flap, and 5 blank page corners repaired, rear endpaper restored, little chips along the edges, else good condition, complete, and we're being precise, and other depictions are suspiciously vague. 1st editions of Ulysses for what we're asking are gone. The cheapest equivalents start at twice our price and go up from there, and the only thing 4 generations of "1st thus" reprints share in common is declining demand, but a new generation of readers is on the rise. They've heard it's the supreme modernist novel and industrial strength psychological realism, and they're told it was condemned as scandalous erotica, in the days when safe sex meant a padded headboard, and they've read it was stoutly suppressed by authorities fearful of any novel portraying chastity as an unlit lamp, or adult abstinence as malnutrition. But millennials don't care what squares thought about sex 95 years ago, or that from the 1940s to the 1970s Ulysses' meaning was mused upon as a cypher in some language twins teach each other. They just face it as a long and arduous 732 page, 265,000 word legacy, a test of focus, set in turn of the century Dublin, and only worth the effort because it recaptures life in a signally fascinating time and place. So the motivation for reading Ulysses has been protean in each generation, but it always stayed the be … [Click Below for Full Description]

SARTORIO, Aristide
Milano, L'Eroica, 1922. Axs [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
