1922. Near Fine. Oblong octavo. String tied flexible cloth with "Photographs" stamped in blind on the top board. Modest edgewear on the boards, near fine. Contains 141 mostly sepia-tone gelatin silver photographs. Images are various sizes ranging mostly between 2" x 3" and 3" x 3.5", with several larger, mostly mounted between three and six to the page and largely captioned. Some modest fading on some of the images, one with a touch of damage, but most are near fine or better. A well-photographed album of rural images, the first page devoted to prize cattle (a few other images of cattle and horses appear) but about half of the images are devoted to hunting, trapping, and fishing in the Adirondacks, mostly between 1922 and 1923, with a few from earlier dates. The hunting images show catches of fish, fox, skunks, muskrats, deer, mink, as well as gun-toting men, and several of hunting dogs (all it seems named "Uncas"). Most of the rest of the album is devoted to images of attractive and cheerful younger people on boats or on trips in automobiles, mostly to rural areas (with Uncas present!). An engaging, interesting, and largely subject specific group of images.

Chester, George Randolph
The James A. McCann Company, New York, 1922. 4to, (10 1/2 x 12 1/8"), blue-grey gilt and pictorial cloth. Each page of text has pale green line illustrations by Lawson. There are pictorial headpieces done in black, decorative initials, pictorial endpapers plus 6 incredibly fanciful color plates that are rich in color and in detail. The rear board is stained with loss of surface sheen; the half-title is hand-colored; there is a neat ownership name on the reverse of the first plate, followed by a lengthy pencil note on apparently an unrelated issue. First edition of an exceedingly scarce children's book, this is a fantasy tale about Little Prince Toofat and Himself who travel to the fairy land of Looking Glass. First serialized in the Delineator and subsequently published as a book, Lawson reportedly was not proud of this magical work which "shows the influence of Arthur Rackham and W. Heath Robinson so evident in Lawson's later illustrations " (Gardner: Robert Lawson on My Shelves p.9). Overall a very good copy of Lawson's first book, his rarest and most elusive. Younger List of 100 Important Children's Books, 1922. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

1922. Hi, This lot is a 1922 Original Hardback Wisden in OK Condition, 1922s do not come in very good very often and there are nicer condition 1922s out there but this one is special as it is a presentation Wisden, it is signed by the Editor Sydney H Pardon to Caine (future editor) on the title page. So condition, first off the gilt is bright to front and spine , the boards however are dark and marked and there is a lot of wear between the spine cloth and the front/back boards. Inside the hinges are strong but some yellow coming away to the front hinge. A bit grubby inside but not too bad. Great Photoplate. Sticker to first page.

1922. Hi, This lot is an Original 1922 Hardback Wisden . I see a lot of 22 Hardbacks and 95% are always a bit ropey, this one however for the year is in Excellent condition. As good as my own. The boards are nice and clean and the gilt very bright, the front hinge is strong but not springy and a cm of mesh can be seen at the base. The pastedowns are very bright and the rear hinge is springy (usually both are broken on a '22) Very clean pages inside. By far superior to many of the same year. Nice photoplate, Very Hard to find in good condition, this is not too far off excellent.

Prochazka, A.
Volume XXXVII (year 1922) of Moderni revue. The monthly art magazine Moderni revue (Modern Review for Literature, Art, and Life) - founded by A. Prochazka and J. Karasek in 1893 - played a key role in development of the new literature and also modern typography and ilustration in the Czech countries at the end of 19th century. This journal was a major institution of Czech Modernism, in which many young authors made their debut, topical discussions on contemporary art took place, and new standards were set in book ilustration. MR played an important role in the internationalization of Bohemian culture at the turn of the century. (Neil Stewart, The Cosmopolitanism of Moderni revue) Volume XXXVII includes 11 original woodcuts by F. Kobliha, M. Svabinsky, C. Bouda, A. Moravec, and others. Wrappers with woodcut by F. Kobliha. Text (in Czech language) by: F. Kobliha, V. Dyk, R. Jesenska, J. Maria, J. Krejcar, R. Medek, J. Karasek, A. Prochazka and others (see full list in the photo). Praha, A. Prochazka, 1922.
