[Crime Scene Photographs]: Exhibit Photographs from the Halls-Mills Murder Trial

[New Brunswick]: Van Derveer Photo.. [1922]. 10 different large silver gelatin photographs mounted on stiff card stock. Sepia-toned images measuring 15.75" x 12.75" on slightly larger mounts for exhibition. Several have handwritten notes paper-clipped to the mount describing what is in the photo. A little rounding on the corners of the mounts, paperclips a little oxidized but not substantially affecting the images, just about fine, the images clear and deep. Reputedly used as state's exhibits at the infamous Hall-Mills Murder Trial. None of the exhibit photos are grisly, they mostly refer to the geography of the case with one (captioned "Crab apple tree where bodies were found") used as an illustration in the William Kuntsler's book, The Hall-Mills Murder Case: The Minister and the Choir Singer. Provenance on request and accompanied by a supplied second edition of book. .

[Title in Cyrillic]: Skazka o glupon tsare [The Tale of the Foolish Tsar]

Petersburg: Epokha. 1922. First. First edition. Thin small quarto. [16]pp. Illustrated by Valentina Mikhailovna Khodasevich. Stapled illustrated wrappers. Spine with old paper repair, ink number on front wrap, modest age-toning, a sound very good copy. Chukovsky was a poet, critic, translator, and the founder of Soviet juvenile literature. He was one of the first critics to seriously study Russian children's books; and his articles so impressed Maxim Gorky that he challenged him to write his own book for young people, and the Russian juvenile classic Krokodil was the result. Famous for his nonsense poems, he wrote few stories in prose, like this satirical fairy tale about a foolish czar. The illustrator Khodasevich was a celebrated painter and theater designer who studied under Kees Van Dongen and worked with Tatlin before joining the Russian Cubo-Futurists. .

        The Beautiful and the Damned.

Scribner's, New York 1922 - First edition, first state of the author's second novel. Octavo, original green cloth, titles to the spine in gilt. In excellent condition, showing only light wear to the spine extremities. Contemporary bookplate to the inside gutter. F. Scott Fitzgerald's second novel, The Beautiful and Damned, was a pivotal book in his career. A trenchant satire of the Jazz Age, it is very much a novel of its times. It tells the story of Anthony Patch, his relationship with his wife Gloria, his service in the army, and his alcoholism. The novel provides an excellent portrait of the Eastern elite as the Jazz Age begins its ascent, engulfing all classes into what would soon be known as the Café Society.
