SAWYER, Charles Winthrop (Brigadier General Philip Reade)
Published by the Author Boston (1910). First Edition. Octavo, original red cloth, illustrated with plates. Important history of firearms. This copy with ownership signature at title page of Brigadier General Philip Reade: "Philip Reade / Brig. Gen'l., U. S. Army / 4 May 1908". The signature implies that the publication date was actually a few years earlier than what the copyright date indicates. Reade's service included The Indian Wars, the Civil War, and the Spanish-American War, in which he fought both in Cuba and the Philippines. He served in the 18th Army Corps in Virginia and North Carolina during the Civil War. He went to West Point in 1864, but did not graduate, and in 1867 was appointed a Second Lieutenant in the 3d Infantry. He retired in 1908. Very Good, endpapers cluttered with several newspaper clippings and promotions for this title, causing some shadows to leaves, "Army and Navy Journal' clipping concerning Reade pasted to front pastedown and front endpaper, occasional pencil underlining to text, pencil notes at dedication page possibly by Reade but perhaps more likely by the next owner. 0.0 [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Natangen, E. von d. i. Erminia Tortilowicz v. Batocki)
Hermann Costenoble, Jena, 1910. 143 S., Orig.-Pappband. Roter Kopfschnitt.

Ferdinand SEIDL (1856-1942), or circle of.
[Slovenia, circa ], 1910. Hand coloured lithograph, originally dissected in 8 sectiona and mounted on linen, with manuscript and printed labels, and stamps on the back (Very Good, slightly stained) cm (inches). A unique early manuscript and lithographed map, shows the geological structure of the central Slovenia. A unique manuscript geological map of Ljubljana with its surroundings, was hand drawn over a lithographed map and was made just before WW I for scientific researches of an geological institute, or as a draft for a printed map. The notes and stamps on the back are still written in German, which was replaced by Slovenian language in 1918 with the founding of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The map can be put in the circle of the geographer and geologist Ferdinand Seidl (1856-1942), who was the most prominent naturalist in Slovenia. Seidl made first detailed geological maps of the country, published before WW I, still under Austrian-Hungarian Empire. After the war he staied in Slovenia, where he was active as a teacher and collector. Until his death, he published numerous books, articles and maps on geology.
