They hunted mountain sheep, black bears, grizzlies, caribou, moose, and more, assisted by a cook and guide named Grant Jennings, a veteran of the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. Bannon relates their hunting experiences, and also describes their travels, the scenery, and the history of the region. ^"A superb hunting narrative" - MIDLAND NOTES. "This is a plain, straightforward and most interesting account of a hunting trip, mainly for mountain sheep, in Yukon Territory.[Bannon] gives a good picture of the country through which he passed and his hunting experiences are quite absorbing" - Streeter. Rigone
1911. Cloth. Leather strap clasp. Ribbon tie binding. . Near Fine. Eleven masterfully executed humorous fashion plate caricatures mostly satirizing over-the-top hats. Oblong, 23 by 32.5 cm. The original artwork is done on white sheets which are then mounted onto the black album card, one caricature per leaf, with tissue guards for each album leaf. The artwork is all pen-and-ink and watercolored. With most of the renderings, the oversized hats entirely overwhelms the wearer's face. In all but one, there is a single fashionable, but not necessarily prepossessing, women. In the final caricature the woman, this one very comely and wearing roller skates, is shown warding off suitors, two of whom are floored, a third being chased by a policeman. The artwork here is extraordinary. Whoever Rigone was, he/she was of professional level, and these caricatures together make for a brilliant, delightful suite, full of color and panache. And they work best as a suite -- the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts.

Fessées Gaillardes et Authentiques racontées par les membres du club sainte Brigitte, Bibliothèque des Deux Hémisphères [ Jean Fort ], collection Cressida, s.d. [1911?]. 2 Volumes in original neutral paper covers. Title of each volume on spine, pp 139, 155+ table. (19 x 12 cm).16 colour plates (unsigned) tipped in, each plate (excepting the first) are indexed against the appropriate volume, i.e. VB 1, VB 2, along with the page number the image is paired with. The illustrations are more explicit than the usual flagellation themes. Very good condition A very rare clandestine publication from Jean Fort, something of a bibliographical mystery, and not much information out there, I am unable to locate a copy in any library, or any history of this title being auctioned. This edition is a great rarity and even more so with a suite of 16 original illustrations. It is likely that the illustrations are "extra" to the book and may have been commissioned by the original owner, they appear contemporary with the book. There appears to be some surface debate about which came first, this edition provisionally dated 1911, although it is not actually dated at all, despite someone having penciled 1911 at the foot of the title page, or the clandestine Carrington English edition dated 1910, which claims to have been translated from the French. This French edition makes no similar claim to have been translated from the English, so given the confusion (deliberate) created by clandestine publishers, the debat … [Click Below for Full Description]

ont> William Heinemann : London, 1911 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). A signed limited edition copy of Arthur Rackham's beautifully illustrated edition of Richard Wagner's dramas, illustrated with tipped-in colour plates. Signed by Arthur Rackham. A limited edition work. Limited to eleven hundred and fifty copies numbered and signed by the illustrator. This copy is numbered two-hundred and fifty-two. Illustrated with a tipped-in colour frontispiece, vignette title page, and twenty-nine tipped-in colour plates. Collated, text is complete, though lacking the ribbon tie to the boards. From Wagner's series, titled 'Der Ring des Nibelungen', or 'The Ring of the Nibelung', or simply the 'Ring Cycle'. There are four dramas in the series, 'Das Rheingold'/'The Rhinegold', 'Die Walkure'/'The Valkyrie', 'Siegfried', and 'Gotterdammerung'/'Twilight of the Gods' The four dramas are loosely based on characters from Norse mythology and the Nibelungenlied. The plot of the four dramas revolves around a magical ring, that grants the wearer the power to rule the world. It is said that the ring was forged by the Nibelung dwarf Alberich from gold that he stole from the River Rhine's maidens. Wagner wrote the libretto and music over about twenty-six years, from 1848 to 1874. He intended them to be performed in a series, and the first performance of the cycle opened at the first Bayreuth Festival in 1876. Many believe that the composition and story of this cycle raised the standards of the art form. It is also considered that to put on the cycle is one of the biggest challenges a … [Click Below for Full Description]

Crofton, Henry Thomas
Scholastic Book Services, 1911. Crofton Memoirs: An account of John Crofton, of Ballymurry, Co. Roscommon, Queen Elizabeth's Escheator-General of Ireland, and of his ancestors and descendants. Printed for the author by the Yorkshire Print Co., 1911. Hardcover. Condition: Good. ?Crofton memoirs, compiled by Henry Thomas Crofton and published in 1911, provides valuable source material for any researchers interested in either the history of the Crofton family or in the early modern history of the east Connaught region. The book is structured in three parts, the first of which focuses on John Crofton (b. 1540), from Cornhill in London. Crofton was an important figure in late Tudor Ireland. He first arrived in Ireland in 1565, a member of the entourage of the new Lord Deputy, Sir Henry Sidney. The following year Sidney undertook his 'progress' (tour) through Ulster and Connaught, and was again accompanied, it appears, by Crofton. By 1569 Crofton had been appointed to a number of important civil offices, including clerk of Connaught, thus commencing his involvement with that region. In 1571 Crofton secured his first lands in Roscommon, at Moylurge, near Boyle, 'only six years after his arrival in Ireland' (p. 47). Four years later, in 1575, he resigned his various posts, to be appointed to the important office of escheator general of Ireland. This involved him in two key features of the Tudor policy in Ireland - inquisitions into land tenures and the wardship of minors. Thus, in 1578 Crofton was assigned the wardship of Valentine Blake, which entailed raising the child in English … [Click Below for Full Description]

Paul Birault et Cie Éditeurs. La Côte. Recueil de chants celtiques. Paris, [Imp. Paul Birault], 1911. In 1911, as a result of bombarding gold foil with alpha particles, Rutherford formulated the hypothesis of the atom's nuclear construction on which all subsequent work in atomic physics and chemistry is based. He observed that while most of the alpha particles passed straight through the foil, some bounced back from it. Rutherford interpreted the bouncing in terms of his hypothesis and determined those that went through had passed through the planetary systems of electrons, while those that bounced back had hit, or interacted with, a nucleus. In 1919, as reported in this paper, Rutherford found that alpha particles in collision with nitrogen atoms liberated from them nuclei of hydrogen atoms, causing artificial transmutation or the splitting of the atom.
