"Das Nordlicht", ein wortmächtiges Versepos, an dem Däubler bereits seit 1898 gearbeitet hatte wurde 1916 von dem jungen Philosophen Carl Schmitt in einer Monographie enthusiastisch besprochen. Kasimir Edschmid schrieb 1920 über Däubler: "Er ist einer der von innen Leuchtenden, selbst das Dunkle und Wirre hat den einfachen Reiz".

Attractively bound in contemporary tan full morocco, spine gilt in compartments each with a putto design gilt, sides with a double gilt-ruled border and elaborate floral cornerpieces, each with a putto design gilt, top edge gilt. With a tipped-in colour frontispiece and 29 colour plates with tissue guards. Spine rolled and faded, ends and corners worn, a few minor marks to covers, small crease to the corners of four plates, hinge cracking between quires M + N. A very good copy. First Dulac edition. The Edition de Luxe, one of only 1000 numbered copies signed by the artist on the limitation leaf.

Minor discoloring to boards with faint rubbing at the corners. Contemporary gift inscription on the front free endsheet. This is the second issue of the first edition with the content from pages 194-200 that appeared in the first issue removed. Later revised by Howard R. Driggs and reissued as "The White Indian Boy: The Story of Uncle Nick Among the Shosones." This work has had enduring popularity for more than a century and is still in print today. Wilson, Wyoming was named in honor of Elijah. Howes writes of this work: "Blunt, unrestrained narrative of a trapper, Indian fighter, etc., of the Rocky Mountains, from Wyoming and Montana to Idaho and Utah."         Philip's Tape Indicator map of London

      London: , c 1910. Size: 895 × 625 mm. Lithograph, dissected on linen and printed in colour. In original cloth embossed dark green boards. In very good condition. An attractive and very detailed plan of Edwardian London, produced by George Philip and Son. Although the plan lacks the original tape indicator (not uncommon), it still has original comprehensive booklet containing an alphabetical listing of all streets, public buildings etc. Tram routes, underground and over ground railways are shown, and postal districts are defined. All major thoroughfares, public parks, commons, gardens, fields and grounds are coloured and highlighted. Map extent is from Peckham and Hackney in the east to Barnes and Willesden in the west.

      Doubleday Page and Co 1910 - The book is in good condition. It's a large book, measuring 9 1/2" x 11 1/2". There are no signatures, bookplates, or markings of any kind in the book. The gilt lettering and illustration on the cover is bright and unrubbed. The spine is darkened and rubbed. There is some foxing and wear to the outside boards. This book contains all 34 of Rackham's original tipped-in plates, with none missing, removed, or loose. They all have intact tissue guards which have the illustration titles printed on them. There is some foxing to the endpapers, but the reat of the book is clean. This is #29 of only 1150 copies Signed by Arthur Rackham.       Hodder & Stoughton, London, (1910) - The first edition of this scarce title was issued both clothbound and in paper wraps. This clothbound issue is by far the scarcer of the two. Cohen reports only 100 copies produced. This is the first issue with one appendix and an index. 152 pages, 6 x 8.75 inches, printed on pulpy acidic paper which is always browned as a result. Bound in deep red smooth cloth, blocked gilt on cover and spine. Original cloth in clean covers, spine sunned, gilt dull, wear at spine ends and lower corners. Front hinge cracked, endpaper has owner name dated 1909 and 10JAN1966 stamped in black ink. Rear hinge completely broken, endpaper detached but present. Auf dem Platz auch das 1893 durch Robert Bärwald geschaffene und 1942 eingeschmolzene Reiterstandbild Kaiser Wilhelms I. umgeben von Marktständen und hübscher Marktszene. Die Bürgerhäuser an der Nordwestseite sind durch Schriftzüge als Café und Conditorei und als Tabak- und Cigarren-Fabrik J. F. Oltrogge gekennzeichnet. Der Landschaftsmaler Friedrich Kallmorgen, Mitbegründer der Künstlerkolonie von Grötzingen, war Professor an der Karlsruher Akademie und Präsident des Karlsruher Künstlerbundes, zu seinen viel gerühmten Werken gehören Städte- und Landschaftsbilder, die seine ganze Vielseitigkeit zeigen. Auch als Graphiker war Kallmorgen tätig und "hat zu der Neublüte der Lithographie in Karlsruhe in den 90er Jahren wesentlich beigetragen."Die Farblithographie entstand in der Kunstdruckerei Künstlerbund Karlsruhe (KKK) für den Verlag Robert Voigtländer in Leipzig. Sie trägt im Stein unten rechts die Künstlersignatur und unten links das Verlagssignet, der Name der Druckerei in der schwarzen Umrandungslinie ist um die Hälfte beschnitten.In den 1890er Jahren kam in Deutschland eine besonders durch Kunsthistoriker vorangetriebene Bewegung zur Kunsterziehung auf. Um 1900 entwickelte sich in Karlsruhe durch die bahnbrechende Arbeit des Künstlerbundes Karlsruhe auf diesem Gebiet das für Deutschland bedeutendste Zentrum für Künsterlithographie und Wandbilddruck. Die in der vom Verein 1897 gegründeten Kunstdruckerei entstandenen Künstlersteinzeichnungen fanden durch die seit 1901 bestehende Zusammenarbeit mit den Leipziger Verlagen Voigtländer und Teubner internationale Verbreitung.Großformatige Darstellung in gutem Erhalt auf kräftigem Papier, lediglich 1 kl. Housed in purple cloth four-fold covers and custom half purple morocco slipcases. Books are very good in like slipcases. The extremities are gently bumped and rubbed, and the boards are very slightly bowed. There are several minor ripples in the cloth of the covers and / or spines. Previous owner's name on the front free endsheets. The text blocks are cracked at the half title pages. Tanned pages. There are numerous notaion in pencil on the rear endsheets. The spine labels of volumes 1 and 2 are just a little chipped. The rear pastedown of volume 2 has an adhered newspaper clipping, and the rear free endsheet has a corresponding dark patch. There are several light stains on p. 517 of volume 2. The slipcases show light wear and soiling, and sporadic areas of sun fading. The largest amount of fading is on top edge of the back of the slipcase of volume 1. There are several minor bumps along the edges of the slipcases. The four-fold folders are in very good condition as well, with minor sunning to the spines. 3 volume set. Illustrated. Large paper copies, of which only 200 were made. With a page of Hearn's original handwritten manuscript tipped in at the beginning of volume 1 of The Life and Letters of Lafcadio Hearn. Cited on pages 55 and 59 of Lafcadio Hearn: A Bibliography of His Writings by P.D. and Ione Perkins.

Gumm, and a witness, George A. Friedman. Very good. This composition, published as "Lovey Joe," was written (with Will M. Cook) for Fanny Brice in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1910. Jordan (1882-1971), Ohio-born Black pianist, violinist, drummer, and composer; attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO; played in the Taborin Band; in Chicago (1903); wrote and orchestrated the music for the Nashville Students for their concert at Proctor's, New York City (1905), which was the first public concert of syncopated music in America; music director of Pekin Theatre, Chicago (1906-13); pianist and arranger for Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, and Eddie Duchin; also wrote for Ginger Rogers and Ethel Merman; wrote "Nappy Lee - A Slow Drag" (1903); with Cole and Johnson "The Red Moon" (1909), "Morocco Blues," "Teasin' Rag," which Blossom Seely used as her theme song.
