A very good copy. A nice copy of a very imaginative and quite. uncommon book. (#107052). First edition. Faustian science fiction. A brilliant scientist's offer of marriage is rejected by the woman he loves because she fears the consequences of his possible success in discovering the secret of eternal life. The rebuffed scientist continues his experiments, discovers and synthesizes the essential fluids of the human brain, and constructs clockwork androids, using the brain fluid to give them artificial intelligence. But the androids have no souls and the double of the scientist's girl friend ("as perfect a companion, as a man ever had -- provided he wound her up") cannot love him. He destroys the androids and wins the hand of the human Rosamond. Not in Bleiler (1948; 1978), Reginald (1979; 1992), or Day (1963). Smith, American Fiction, 1901-1925 M-658.

Original Pen and Ink Drawing of 3 of The Brownies

n.p., 1910. 4-3/4 x 2-3/4 inches. Fine . A delightful original ink drawing by Palmer Cox of three of his marvellous Brownies. "At the age of forty [Palmer Cox] began illustrating stories for St. Nicholas Magazine...He loved children and enjoyed entertaining them, and the children loved his drawings. As the magazine called for more and more material his brain was taxed for an original idea...and eventually the famous 'Brownies' were conceived...He resolved that there should be no pain or crime in the beings of his creation, only laughter for children...Cox estimated that he drew over a million of them, and of his thirteen Brownie books over a million copies were sold within his lifetime."

Erinnerungen aus Süd-West. - Privates Photographienalbum der Farm Korab bei Gaub (Ghaub) im damaligen Deutsch-Südwestafrika. 17 private Orig.-Photographien.

New York: Moods Publishing Company. 1910. First. First edition. Octavo. Japanese vellum over boards gilt, gilt is rubbed in places, else near fine. Introduction by Edwin Markham. A very influential collection of poetry by young poets, this being the first appearance for several of them. One of 500 numbered copies, the first 50 have been signed by most of the contributors, this is copy number 12, Signed by the following contributors: Joyce Kilmer, Ludwig Lewisohn, Edwin Markham, Reginald Wright Kauffman, James Oppenheim, Louis Untermeyer, George Sylvester Viereck and several others. Rare. With: The Younger Quire. NY: Moods Publishing Company 1911. 12mo. Near fine. Introduction by Daffydowndilly. Japanese vellum over boards gilt, issued without dustwrapper. Thin spine tanned, short tear to the edge of one blank page and some slight soiling, near fine. Amusing parodies of the younger poets, who appeared in The Younger Choir. Copy #63 of 100 numbered copies, the first ten copies signed by the author (who is not identified). It is however Signed by Louis Untermeyer (under the Daffydowndilly on the title page), who is almost certainly the author, and who is one of the represented poets. It is very probable that it was authored by Untermeyer, whose later work included several books of parody. His first acknowledged book, First Love, was also published in 1911. Rare. .

1910. Annotated 1910 Compilation of Oregon Laws Lord, William Paine, and Richard Ward Montague, Compilers and Annotators. Lord's Oregon Laws Showing All the Laws of a General Nature in Force in the State of Oregon Including the Sessions of 1909, and the Laws and Constitutional Amendments Adopted at the General Election of 1910. Published by Authority of an Act Approved March 19, 1909. Salem: Willis S. Duniway, State Printer, 1910. Three volumes. Contemporary buckram, red and black lettering pieces. Negligible shelfwear and soiling. Small chip to title page of Volume I, interiors otherwise pristine. A well-preserved set. * "In the prosecution of the work a systematic search was made of all session laws and codes from the beginning and the results carefully checked with previous compilations. The laws printed have been carefully read and compared with the original and authentic source, the enrolled bills, thus securing for the first time it is believed, an accurate text. The general order of the Bellinger and Cotton compilation has been preserved, as being most familiar, and therefore most convenient to the bar and public in general, and indeed it has been the plan to make changes from that excellent work only when a clear and plain reason required it....Special pains have been taken to bring the annotations down to date....": Preface, Volume I [iii]. Babbitt, Hand-List of Legislative Sessions and Session Laws 414.
