      - 3 pp. of a bifolium. Octavo. Dated Venice, July 29, 1910, Tolentini 3536. On onionskin paper with blindstamp of a quill on paper to lower edges. In Italian (with translation). Wolf-Ferrari asks his correspondent to send him some scores as soon as possible so he can study them "lovingly" rather than superficially."I had already sent my Venice address to Via dei Greci, Rome, and from there they had already answered me, telling me that they would have sent the scores just as soon as [Arturo] Toscanini had released them. The scores are really a lot. They should get to me right away so I can prepare with ease. I will need at least twenty days so that the examination would not be too superficial, but rather, loving."Creased at folds; short tear to central fold; last blank page slightly stained at lower right.         Autograph Letter regarding the publication of Brigg Fair

1910. Used; Like New/Used; Like New. Scarce ALS, one page on a 3.5 x 5.5 postcard, January 8, 1910. Letter to music critic Edwin Evans. In part: "Briggfair is being published by Leuckart and no doubt on application they will let you have a proof copy for analysis. It might also be wise for you to consult Mr. Beecham's programmes." Addressed on the reverse in Delius's hand. In fine condition, with light handling wear. The conductor Thomas Beecham played a major part in bringing Delius to prominence by performing his work.  During the last 12 years of his life Delius's wife Jelka wrote almost all his letters.  Autograph material, especially of musical content, from the hand of the influential English composer are very rare."Brigg Fair" is an English folk song, best known in a choral arrangement by Percy Grainger. In 1907, Delius heard the setting and was impressed by both the tune and the arrangement, and, with Grainger's permission, used the song as the basis of an orchestral work.  First performed in 1908 and subtitled 'An English Rhapsody,' Delius's work treats the tune to a series of variations, encompassing lilting rhythmic dances, funereal marches, gently pastoral moments and full grand statements. One of Delius's most original and distinctive works, a peaceful introduction and several Romantic linking passages give the work its rhapsodic character.

1910. 170 x 110 mm.

THREE LITTLE KITTENS and ( CAT STRUWWELPETER or FIDGETY PHIL ).

London, Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd., No. 970, circa 1910.. FIRST EDITION circa 1910, 6 panel panorama of thick board pages hinged with red cloth, colour printed both sides, a separate story on each side, both illustrated by Wain, brief caption below each picture, all dressed kittens, page size 235 x 180 mm, 9¼ x 7 inches. LACKING COVER BOARD PAGE WITH TITLES (i.e. 5 of 6 panels only). The images for Three Little Kittens were re-used in a painting book issued about the same time by Tuck with the No. 4063. The story on the reverse is a cats version of 5 Struwwelpeter stories: Fidgety Philip on the floor under the table cloth; the three kittens inked by Agrippa cat for mocking the Blackamoor; John who never looked where he was going and almost drowned in a stream; a version of the Huntsman where a hare with a rifle shoots at 2 cats; finally, a kitten disobeys his mother and sucks his thumb but with no nasty consequences. A Louis Wain cat version of Struwwelpeter was published by Tuck circa 1905 entitled Fidgety Phil and Other Tales, in the Little Pets series, with 16 pages including covers and with verses by Norman Gale. Hinges slightly worn with some small splits, a few very minor marks to some pages and some hinges, small closed tear to surface paper at edge of 1 image (we have found our mittens), neatly repaired with no loss, barely visible. A good defective copy of a rare book (lacking 1 board page). Neither the Three Little Kitten Painting Book nor our Panorama, nor Fidgety Phil are listed in the bibliography in the reissue of the Dale book on Wain. The painting book is not uncommon but we could not find a record of our panorama. Fidgety Phil is listed in Baumgartner Volume 1, page 24, No.29 and 1 copy is recorded in Liverpool University Library and 1 in Toronto Public Library but not in the Osborne catalogue. Brandt & Zoon was an Amsterdam based bookbinder and paper wholesaler, active from 1742 until the mid-20th century, when it merged with P. Proost & Zoon, another Amsterdam firm, founded in 1842. The present volume is apparently a display of their craftsmanship, as it is meticulously bound and gilted. It contains 33 framed photographs of contemporary decorative furniture, all in a style transitional between Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau, and Art Deco. Many items show the characteristic ornamentation of the "Amsterdamse School", a mainly architectonical art movement characterized by the profuse use of ornaments, chiefly inspired by nature and by Indonesian art. Buildings and interiors in typical Amsterdamse School style were made between 1912 and 1925. What we see here are early examples, in which the use of fluent, curved lines - more typical for Art Nouveau, are still present. A few boards in the rear removed. Firm stamp on front flyleaf verso. A unique item in a very good state.

Eigenh. Brief mit U. München, 6. IV. 1910.

1910. 7¼ SS. auf 2 Doppelbll. 8vo.
