Barre, Vermont: C. Baris Studio, 1909. Fine. Gelatin silver photograph. Approximately 13.25" x 10.5" mounted on a thick card printed in silver and measuring approximately 20" x 14". A trifle rubbed at the corners of the mount, overall fine, with the image particularly sharp. the picture depicts a dozen men in uniform with gloves, one young man (presumably the bat boy) in uniform, and nine men in suit and tie. Each is identified with either their position, or in the case of the suited men, their place in the management of the team. In the middle of the picture is displayed a sign or banner that reads "1909 I.A.C. Amateur Champions of Stare. Barre, Vermont." Presumably I.A.C. stands for "Italian Athletic Clubs". A splendid image of Italian-American baseball players.

Ford Madox Ford called him "one of the greatest men and one of the beautiful spirits of the country". In 1909 he would have been just 24, the same year that he published "In the Net of the Stars". The Manifesto of Futurism, In Italian: "Manifesto del Futurismo", written by the Italian poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, initiated an artistic philosophy, Futurism, that was a rejection of the past, and a celebration of speed, machinery, violence, youth and industry; it also advocated the modernization and cultural rejuvenation of Italy. Marinetti wrote the manifesto in the autumn of 1908 and it first appeared as a preface to a volume of his poems, published in Milan in January 1909. It was published in the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dell'Emilia in Bologna on 5 February 1909, then in French, as we have here, as Manifeste du Futurisme (Manifesto of Futurism) where it first appeared in the newspaper Le Figaro on 20 February 1909]. Marinetti would have been 33 at the time of this dedication. Flint is mostly known for h … [Click Below for Full Description]

. MINKOWSKI, HERMAN
Leipzig: F.W. Vogel, 1909. First edition. Original Wrappers. Very Good. FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS of Minkowski's explanation of the fourth dimension, a critical bridge between Einstein's theories of special and general relativity. "In "'Space and Time', read by Minkowski in Cologne only a few months before his death, he introduced the notion that made possible the expansion of the relativity theory of Einstein from its specific (1905) to its general form (1916). Minkowski's space-time hypothesis was in effect a restatement of Einstein's basic principle in a form that greatly enhanced its plausibility and also introduced important new developments. Hitherto natural phenomena had been thought to occur in a space of three dimensions and to flow uniformly through time. Minkowski maintained that the separation of time and space is a false conception; that time itself is a dimension, comparable to length, breadth, and height; and that therefore the true conception of reality was constituted by a space-time continuum possessing these four dimensions. This strongly reinforced Einstein's objections to absolute concepts and supported his view of the relativity of events in nature" (Printing and the Mind of Man, 401).
