L. Frank Baum
Chicago: The Riley & Britton Co, 1909. This cloth hardcover book has some separation at the inner front cover and middle of the book, and worn and torn parts on top and bottom edges of spine. There is also a pencil inscription on the book belongs to page in front, and some discoloration and page edge wear that is consistent with the age of this first edition. I have for sale one rare 1909 First Edition of The Road to Oz by L. Frank Baum. This First Edition is a first/early state issue. It has both a number and caption on page 129, and pages are printed on multicolored stock. The publisher inscription on the spine is in both upper and lowercase lettering. The rougher weave cloth cover is light green with dark green and red details, and the Shaggy Man is pictured in the center in warm yellow and dark green. The two advertisements at the back of the book, The Twinkle Tales and The Policeman Bluejay, both by "Laura Bancroft", appear consistent with the timing of a first/early state printing. This is book five in the series following the original classic, The Wizard of Oz, and contains more adventures starring the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. It is illustrated with stunning pen and ink drawings by John R. Neill. This cloth hardcover book has some separation at the inner front cover and middle of the book, and wear at top and bottom edge of spine. There is some discoloration on front lower left corner of cover and on some pages, as well as shelf wear that is consistent with the age of this first edition. Edward Gibbon's landmark work 'The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' is collected in this seven volume set alongside notes and edits made by John Bagnell Bury, himself a prominent historian and professor. Gibbon's original work was a critical and commercial success at the time, a great literary achievement and the culmination of Gibbon's life's work, and accompanied here by Bury's additions, this set offers the compounded knowledge of two of the foremost scholars on the subject at the time. In seven volumes, published from 1909 to 1914. With one hundred and forty-two monochrome plates and twelve coloured maps. An expansive and commanding history very befitting of its subject matter, Gibbon and Bury present this incredible work in all its glory. Internally, all volumes firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean in all volumes, with only some minor handling marks throughout. Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed. Very Good.

1909. We recently acquired in excess of 1000 volumes of Art & Architecture. There are fabulous plates and prints in most of these volumes. They are ex-library volumes and have the usual stamps & markings. A wonderful change to expand or start a library! This will take a couple of months to list every volume. These are in either French, Italian, German, Spanish or English text. Please ask any questions you may have! This is a set of 2 volumes of "Mission Archéologique dans la Chine Septentrionale (Archaeological Mission to Northern China)" by Edouard Chavannes. This is part of a rare publication which was published by the French School of the Far East, under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Instruction and the Academy of Inscriptions and Beautiful Letters. These are only the volumes with the plates; one volume contains plates 1-286 and the second volume contains plates 287-488. These are in overall fair to good condition. The outer boards are worn and rubbed. The pages are starting to chip around the edges. Some of the pages show foxing. Please look at the photos and ask any questions you might have. Pound, Ezra
London: Elkin Matthews, 1909. First Edition. Small Octavo. 59 pages, the author's second book of which only 500 copies were bound. He had established himself as he befriended Ford Maddox Ford and William Butler Yeats (and serving as best man at Yeat's wedding). It was this work that established his reputation as a major poet; particularly, as it shows a deep background in scholarship. His friend T.S. Eliot would later note, "During a crucial decade in the history of modern literature, approximately 1912-1922, Pound was the most influential and in some ways the best critic in England or America." K.K. Ruthven said Pound was alienated from "an America which has closed its eyes to the classics." A near fine copy of one of the most important works of poetry in literary history. Bound in brown paper covered boards lettered in gilt, faint rubbing to joints.

Buncle & Co.Date Published: 1909 VERY VERY SCARCE Condition: Complete and all pages in excellent order, some slight damage to the paper spine but I decided to leave as is as its not detrimental to the books overall condition this makes the book quite fragile and some pages are starting to loosen so may need some attention in the future , very hard to find in any condition easily tidied up by someone should feel the need to repair this(price reflects this leaving some money for repair costs), a couple of these books have sold for very high prices due to the rarity of the volume and its importance to the History of the game. The inscription inside was to a club champion at Arbroath golf course and its provenence is rock solid and can be traced back to the date of publication.
