Also included is Coates' 1937 Lovecraft obituary and poem, and several first appearance contributions by Lovecraft's fellow science fiction/horror writers August Derleth and Stanton Coblentz. The collection of books and pamphlets includes poems and articles by Coates, W.         Seven Tales of the Fish Patrol [True First: Original Serial Publication]

Boston: Perry Mason Company, 1905. First edition. Wrappers. Very Good +. A Scarce copy of the first edition, first printing, of this Jack London collection of short stories as first published in The Youth's Companion magazine, comprising seven issues of the magazine starting in the February 16, 1905 with "White and Yellow". A separate story from the collection appeared every other week through the May 11,1905 issue's presentation of "Yellow Handkerchief". (The stories were not published in book form until September, 1905.) Each issue is in Very Good or better condition with a neat center fold, some spotting to the front page of a few issues. The February 16 issue shows a short tear with slight loss to the right margin very mildly affecting the text -- which remains quite legible; the March 2 issue shows two short cuts to the left margin with slight loss to the margin on one cut but otherwise closed and slightly invading the text but not affecting the legibility thereof; the March 16 issue shows a small tear with slight loss to the right margin; the front page of the March 30 issue showing modest staining, a small hole to the right text column, a tiny hole to the illustration at the center fold, and a small hole to the left margin at the center fold; and the May 11 issue shows some short splitting to the left fold. These issues present the first set of Jack London stories set in his home state of California and thus are of true importance to the London collector. Being ephemeral in nature and likely to be thrown away after reading, complete sets of the true first publication of these seven stories are seldom found. A Very Good to Very Good + copy of a scarce and important Jack London ephemeral item. These issues are of further note in that they are in their original publication format and never have been otherwise bound. SCARCE AND NOTABLE INDEED.
