There are also views of local schools, churches, hotels, homes, residences, shops, and a fishing scene. There is also an interesting view of Main Street in Granite on June 9, 1891, showing the street flooded with rushing water. Charles Weitfle, a German immigrant, was a Union photographer during the Civil War and is best known as a producer of stereoviews. He was based in Colorado in the 1870s and 1880s, until a Denver fire consumed his studio in 1883. He eventually moved to Cheyenne, and then to Granite County, Montana.         35 eigenh. Briefe mit U. und 12 Telegramme.

Berlin, Dresden, Marienbad, Wien u. a., 1891 bis 1896.. Zusammen 70½ SS. auf 58 Bll. Verschiedene Formate. (a. d. Br. v. [Oktober 1896]).

The Chronicles of Barsetshire (8 Volumes Complete)

London: Chapman and Hall, Limited, 1891. London: Chapman and Hall, Limited, 1891. Octavo, 8 volumes. Original three quarters leather over marbled boards, gilt toolin the the spine, gilt ruled to the front and rear panels. Marbled enpapers. In very good condition. The Chronicles of Barsetshire " revealed a new humorist and type of humour. No such picture of the special features of cathedral society had been given before, nor has anything so good been done since, excepting the corresponding portions of Barchester Towers and the rest of the Barsetshire novels…. These, however, are much more complex, Trollope having discovered that the same gifts which enabled him to portray clergymen were equally available for other classes of society. For humour, Barcester Towers perhaps stands first; for the suspense of painful interest, Framley Parsonage; for general excellence, The Last Chronicle of Barset. They stand at the head of his writings" (Sadleir, 245).

        The Indian Mutiny of 1857

FONT>, 1891. FONT>, 1891 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. A nicely bound copy of George Bruce Malleson's (8 May 1825 1 March 1898) history of the Indian mutiny. The author was stationed in India at the time of the Mutiny, and, unlike other historians of that event, he concluded that the uprising was both predictable and based on much deeper political discontent than its superficial cause - the issuance of greased cartridges to native troops which violated their religious practices. He also believed that the Mutiny was not at all spontaneous, but the result of a determined conspiracy by Indian nobles. With seven plans and illustrations, including a frontispiece of the author. Condition: In a half morocco binding over marbled boards. Externally, rubbed with some wear to extremities and minor loss to backstrip. Rear hinge cracked. Internally, firmly bound. Endpapers browned, some light spotting here and there, otherwise a bright and clean copy. Neat inscription to front free endpaper. Overall: GOOD..
