BONAFOUS Matteo
Paris, Huzard, et Turin, Bocca, 1836. in-fol. gr., pp.(2), 181, dedica a H.A.Tessier con ritratto a mezzo busto inc., 20 tavole fuori testo, delle quali 15 stupende incise a colori e ritoccate a mano (14 firmate Aug. Bottione-Rossi pinx. - E.Taillant sculp. - 1 firmata P.J.Redouté pinx: - H.Legrand sculp.) raffiguranti differenti qualità di granoturco; cinque tavole inc. in bianco-nero raffig. macchine agricole. "This rare work is probably the most sumptuous monograph of the 19th century on corn. In it is accounted the history of the plant and its economic impact as a food crop, as well as a description of the varieties then grown in France. Only one of the plate … [Click Below for Full Description]

COLTMAN, (Nathaniel)
London: Richd. Holmes Laurie Jany. 12th, 1836. - Map dimensions 78 x 63 cm, overall 81 x 66.5 cm. Folding map with original colour in outline, early annotations in blue marking what appear to be prospective railway lines, many branching off from the few existing lines, small inset map to the lower right corner of the London docks. Dissected onto linen into 24 sections, slightly faded purple moiré cloth slipcase with a printed label to the upper board, matching cloth to the folded end sections of the map. Some very mild rubbing to the case, very good. The map would appear to be a updated reissue of an earlier Coltman map of coach roads first published by Laurie and Whittle in 1809. Editions of the earlier map are not especially common, with just a handful of copies on Copac dated up to 1826, and no copies of any edition titled thus. This edition was presumably published to capitalise on the interest generated by the march of industrialisation across the the land, bringing with it a huge expansion in passenger and freight transportation, principally by rail.

HILL, Benson Earle
London: Richard Bentley, 1836. 2 vols. : viii, 342; vi, 328 p. 20 cm. Full leather with gold and blank impressing, burgundy spine labels, marbled endpapers and text block edges. Moderate wear. Bookplates on front pastedowns. Light foxing. Ink inscription on a front endpaper in vol. I. The author (1790? -1845) journeyed to Ireland in 1810 to join the Royal Artillery as a Second Lieutenant. His first active military service was at the British defeat at New Orleans, and he appeared at Waterloo too late to join in the battle. While his memoirs may be of interest to military historians, they may be even more appealing to theatre buffs. Much of Hill's spare time was spent attending theatrical presentations or performing as an amateur actor himself. Very good. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
