[Stendhal (Henri Beyle)]
de l'Imprimerie de P. Didot l'Aîné, 1814. Edizione originale. «Bombet had not only plagiarized and shamelessly pillaged his - Carpani's - book, but also impersonated its author» (Hermans, p. 46). -- «Among the 'exquisite judgments' of the great composers on which Stendhal prided himself, or the 'appreciations of music in general' which seemed to [a number of 'Stendhalien' critics] 'to be stamped withe th … [Click Below for Full Description]

WILBERFORCE, William (1759-1833, British abolitionist and philanthropist)
1814. Small octavo (191 × 113 mm), 3 pages (a bifolium, last page blank), Barham Court, 27 December 1814 (the last digit is indistinct, but the paper is watermarked 'Bath | 1814'). Creased where folded for posting, with a few other light creases; light red marks near and to (part of) the signature (perhaps from sealing wax); traces of prior mounting to the blank page; in excellent condition. Wilberforce has made a request to his friend Commander Sir George Grey on the addressee's behalf (regarding a 'young man' - presumably a reference or letter of introduction), and writes that the application has been well received. The addressee is possibly Robert Bowyer, miniature painter, publisher and fellow abolitionist. In a postscript to the letter, Wilberforce writes 'I hope Miss Andras & all yr family are well'. Bowyer had adopted the young sculptor Catherine Andras, and his 'Poems on the Abolition of the Slave Trade' features an engraved portrait of Wilberforce 'From a Model in Wax by Miss C. Andras'. Verri Alessandro (1741-1816)
